We are just back from the pool and let me tell you, I'm
Walker is doing good with swimming and was on his way down the huge slide tonight when 5 of the guards, on break, decided to come down the slide at the same time Walker was heading down. Walker, being the little guy he is, doesn't come down laying down, but decides to sit so his ride is a lot slower than if he laid down.
So, these 5 guards head down and just as Walker hit the water, so do they -- one of top of the other, and Walker is at the bottom of the pile. I'm standing there watching for the guard who was sitting on the side to jump in and get Walker out of the pile. She did nothing.

So, I yell to her, get my son out of there -- which she did go in and retrieve him out of the pile. I'm thinking that she didn't want to get hit in the process by all the other guards.
So, I take Walker over to the office, where two of the guards are already in there saying that they landed on some kid. I ask for the manager, tell her what happens, the guards who landed on Walker start telling me it wasn't their fault, they were told they could go. But.......everyone else at the pool has to go 1 at a time, and these guards came down like on a tabagon, all 5 at the same time.
The manager tells me she will talk to the guards and then gets on me saying that she'll take care of it but she doesn't need me to be yelling at her for what happened. Excuse me, my kid just had these 5 huge teenagers land on top of him, and I shouldn't be upset? I tell her that I've supported her guards when they were wronged by people yelling at them when they weren't watching their kids. I'm all for teenage kids having fun, but that the lifeguards who have to follow the rules, just like all the other patrons at the pool (i.e. 1 on the slide at a time -- which if they had, Walker would have only been plummeted by 1 not 5).
The good news is that Walker wasn't hurt --- I think Cameron was more upset watching it all unfold from the top as he was in line behind all the guards and chose to walk back down the steps instead of come down the slide.
We packed up and left. I've already emailed the pool manager (not the college kid --- but the manager above all the managers). I find this unacceptable --- unfortunately, I suspect our family is now "marked" when it comes to spending time at the pool. I'm sure all of the 6 guards as well as the manager are going to remember us.

Gary says they will just not goof off when we are around any more --- I suspect they might goof off even more not just to throw salt in the wound, so to speak.
