Cindy - Glad to hear Walker is ok.
I would have flipped out if something like that happened to Nick.
Those lifegaurds should have know better, they are there to enforce the rules, not blatanly break the rules.
It's a good thing Walker didn't freak out and swallow to much water while he was under, he could have drowned.
I probably would have gone balistic on the manager too.
You should go the board meeting.
They say the fiercest animal is a mother protecting her young!

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful day!
Happy 4th !!

Nick will be marching in the Town Parade with his Boy Scout Troop and working their concession stand at the town park so we will be out a majority of the day.

Thanks for the support with our pool incident. I asked Walker if he had any idea what was going on when it all happened and he didn't. So, I guess if there is a bright light in all of this besides Walker not getting hurt is that it doesn't seem like Walker has any fear of the water or it happening again. I would hate for him to be fearful as he's really come a long way in his confidence and swimming ability.

Sounds like fun, Stacy.

Our town doesn't do any celebrations for 4th of July. The local baseball team has fireworks after their games, but our town saves the majority of celebrating for labor day weekend. There is a big fest with a carnival, food, games, parade, fireworkds and all that weekend.

I hope everyone has a safe and sound Fourth of July! :beach:

Happy 4th everyone...

We took IAN to a neighborhood parade this morning. We actually were in it (He was in his all american Jeep stroller, we were wearing red/white and blue DCL shirts!

Cindy, OMG, I would have been really upset too! When you talk to the superviser, you mught want to ask for a copy of the incident report to verify that the details are correct; If I recall they are required to fill out certain paperwork when there is a possibility of someone being injured. If you really want to raise some caine, you might casually let it slip that Walker has been complaining of a stiff neck... If it were kids horsing around it wouls not be so bad, but the life-guards should know better; more to the point, one of them pn the pile should have pulled Walker out; I would think the guard on the chair should have reasonably expected that... OK, GRRRRR, I agree with you. Not apropriate behavior!!!!!

:figment:

Hey everyone - I need to get caught up around here. Even though we haven't been "out of town" this 4th of July weekend, we've been busy, busy, busy.

We had Cassie's birthday party on Saturday. The girls just loved it, and Cassie & Clark can't wait for the cruise. This will be their first time on the "Mickey boat" as Emily calls it. So, Emily promised to show Clark around.;)

Then, Sunday we had church and some stuff around the house. Yesterday, we went to Chris's mom's house in Lakeland. But first, I just had to visit my LSS since they were having a 40% off the entire store. I bought a bunch of scrapbook stuff!!! Then, I headed over to Lakeland for a BBQ with Chris's family. We didn't get home until almost midnight!!

Today, it's been relatively low key so far, but we have a BBQ to go to this afternoon around 4pm. Then, depending on the girls, we may go to the fireworks downtown St. Pete.

Yes they will be open until 5:00 pm. Anyway, we already made the deal DH and I are shifting financial stuff so we can bring a check in either tomorrow after work or Tuesday morning. I don't want to drive my car anymore than I have to.;)
Good luck with the new car purchase, Roxann! It is kind of exciting to have a new car. We just finished paying both of ours off, so I'm hoping that we can go a few years before embarking on a new car payment.

Cheryl,
The restaurant looks very nice and your review was good but how did the food taste?

Well I'm a bit in a panic as my spine issue appears may be impinging not only on my nerves but on my travel/vacation plans! I have three trips planned in the fall, late Aug to WDW and drop dd at college, Sept to AZ for work conference and play, and of course the October DVC cruise. I'm concerned I won't make any of them. I'm really scared especially that I won't make the cruise.:sad2: If this doesn't clear up they will have to do surgery with a 6-12wk recovery period. But of course first they want to give it a chance to heal on it's own (another 4 wks?) so that brings me to 16wks! YIKES! I kinda want to say look it's not healing just do the surgery! Seriously! I plan to see some docs this week so maybe I'll know more. It's my nature to worry:scared:
Ilene, I sure do hope that you can get better soon. Let us know how it goes. Hopefully, they can get you back to normal without that surgery. :wizard: for you!!!

Hi all! We went to visit our married DD's this weekend. Had a great time with both of them. Went to see Superman Returns on Saturday night. Went to church with DD Rebecca and her DH Mark, then headed home. On the way home, our youngest DD called to tell us that she planned to break up with her boyfriend of over 2 years! We were surprised but we understand her reasons. Then this morning, I came home from water aerobics and heard a strange noise coming from our basement. Our hot water heater had sprung a leak and steam was coming out of it!! :scared1: After 3 tries, finally found a plumber to come and remove it and install a new one. No need in asking Ken....he came home from work and tried to turn off the water, and turned off the wrong valve! He says that's why he's not a plumber....
OMG - I can't even imagine!! We had a similar problem with our water heater last year. I came out to the garage and found a HUGE puddle of water on the garage floor. It seems that some type of thing on top of the water heater failed and we couldn't find a plumber. So, Chris decided to tackle it himself. With a little help, he was able to fix it. Thankfully!!

Just an update, my son broke his arm on June 23 and the "great" Canadian Health system is leaving a lot to be desired. I would rather pay than stand in line ( & it seems like a long line!). The first orthopedic surgeon did not want to operate as he felt "that it will heal fine and the bones will line up on their own"--I have never heard of this theory before and I am an ortho nurse with 20 yrs experience. Even the next day the xray showed that they had shifted some but again, they will line up--mother at this point said, how can they heal if they are always moving? I was poo pooed and said to come back in 10 days which is today but the idiot forgot that he was not working today (our July 1 holiday carryover) so the Doc in ER rexrayed the arm and it is worse! A new cast was applied and an appt was made for Thursday with another orthopod--I know this one and he will not operate on kids so I know he will pass us off onto Sick Kids and then I start the wait all over again-I just want the arm fixed so my 9 yr old son can enjoy some part of the all too short Canadian summer.

On a bright note--I see 16 wks to the cruise-yippee because I could really do with that right now.

Ilene all the best with your back, hope it all works out for you.

Happy July 4th for all the Americans

Where is everyone staying pre-cruise?

Thanks for letting me blow off steam

Jacqui
I'm so sorry for you and your son, Jacqui!! I know how your son feels, because I broke my arm (in a weird way) when I was 12, and it took a while for them to figure out to do. What a nightmare! And, when it was all done, they weren't even sure if it was going to work. :wizard: for your son!

To answer your other question, we're staying at BCV for one night before, and 2 nights after the cruise.

So we left Kankakee about 4 in the afternoon, 3 trucks pulling boats with a total of 7 guys going. We drove up to about the Wisconsin Dells area and stopped for a sandwich and some gasoline. While there, this woman decided we somehow looked like mechanics and pleaded with us to help her and her 20 y/o son. She had prayed for someone to show up to help her apparently we looked like we had been sent by God. We spent about an hour looking at her car and waiting for AAA service to show up we finally left and they STILL were
not there. Drove the rest of the way to Duluth where we ate at a Perkins pancake house. There are some STRANGE people in pancake houses at 2-3 in the morning. Next stop the border. We crossed at International Falls into Fort Francis. Now we have done this before but we must have had brain farts because we didnt divide the cigarettes and booze up properly between the vehicles. That results in SEARCHES. So about 30 min later we have stuff in the right trucks/boats and are on the way. We go shopping in the town of Souix Narrows Canada where I find Disney souveniers to bring Coleen and Raegan. Even found a Disney Canada post card to send out.
We then went to our lodge and got unloaded.
We had a great week of fishing only a short rain shower on one day the caused us to put rain gear on and one another day that didnt. The place we go to is on Lake of the Woods and that is a HUGE lake. All in all between the 3 boats we caught 875 fish from 6 inches to 38 inches. I have lots of pics on the old 35mm camera and will post them after I get them developed.
Friday is a hectic day of fishing each year because it is the last day. Well haste makes waste as they say......
Dad and I were fishing in a small bay when one of the other boats came racing up, with a guy yelling for where the first aid kit was (in my truck on SHORE) one of the othe guys had been HOOKED by a lure, in his BACK. By the time we got back to the cabin it was too late. They had cut off the hook, WAY too short for me to get it out safely. SO out to the Avalanche and push the OnStar emergency button. After they located the nearest hospital, 58 miles away, we were on the road. About 20 miles along we were driving behind an old Buick, a BIG old #9 Buick, at about 60 mph. All at once from the left side of the road a woodchuck came running out. Being trained professionals we KNEW what was gonna happen. Sure enough THUMP under the Buick he goes. He rolled like 4 times and we feared the worst. Suddenly he landed on his feet shook his head and took off running again. We were so surprised we talked about it for the next 20 min. After we got to the hospital in Kenora, thanks to the Navigation systen in the Avalanche, we dropped Jeff off at the door and then went to park. $2 Canadian or Loonies, to park, of course neither of us had a wallet so we had to wait for one the two guys inside to get us money. Canadain hospitals dont take U.S. insurance so he had to put the cost on his Visa for the ER visit. But it was only like $ 200 so it wasnt real bad. On the wall they have a real nice display of some the lures they have removed from fishermen. EVERY part of the human body according to the sign. I am sure that meant some guy had been in a LOT of pain. There had to be about 80 or so of them in there. They do about 75 or so a year the nurse said. After they cut out the one from his back( it looked real painful) we went back to the Lodge. And back out fishing. We had a great dinner and got everything packed up JUST before the rains came. I didnt sleep well from the humidity and thunder/lightening and we got up at 4:45 am on Sat. morning. Hit the road at 5:30 and we were breezing down the highways. Cruised through the U.S. customs w/o a hitch and made it to south of Duluth before we stopped for gas. And looked at the boat trailer tires. This is not our boat but the guy's who had been hooked. He didnt check his tires too well before he left I guess, they were just about BALD and looked worn in a strange way. SO I call our buddies at AAA again, they never did get back to me. We pulled over and between us we found 2 spares to put on. That was done in a parking lotwith some mouthy kids in it that almost got their ***** beat by one of our group but I got that calmed down without bloodshed or cops.
The whole drive is about 14.5 hrs. My dad,73 and Bill, 69, a former FF we have known for years are in the truck with me. They tell me all along how if I need a break just let them know, they will drive for a while. Each time I thought I could stand a break one or other or BOTH of them were sound asleep. So I drove the whole way home, 700 some odd miles.

I really enjoy this trip with the group that goes. It is really neat to sit on a boat in Canada fishing with your dad. He likes it a lot too. I want to keep doing it as long as he is able.
Sorry this is long but I wanted to tell you ALL the details.

Squid
Wow, what a GREAT fishing story!!! Sounds like you had a GREAT time!!!

We are just back from the pool and let me tell you, I'm :furious: :furious: :furious:

Walker is doing good with swimming and was on his way down the huge slide tonight when 5 of the guards, on break, decided to come down the slide at the same time Walker was heading down. Walker, being the little guy he is, doesn't come down laying down, but decides to sit so his ride is a lot slower than if he laid down.

So, these 5 guards head down and just as Walker hit the water, so do they -- one of top of the other, and Walker is at the bottom of the pile. I'm standing there watching for the guard who was sitting on the side to jump in and get Walker out of the pile. She did nothing. :furious: So, I yell to her, get my son out of there -- which she did go in and retrieve him out of the pile. I'm thinking that she didn't want to get hit in the process by all the other guards.

So, I take Walker over to the office, where two of the guards are already in there saying that they landed on some kid. I ask for the manager, tell her what happens, the guards who landed on Walker start telling me it wasn't their fault, they were told they could go. But.......everyone else at the pool has to go 1 at a time, and these guards came down like on a tabagon, all 5 at the same time.

The manager tells me she will talk to the guards and then gets on me saying that she'll take care of it but she doesn't need me to be yelling at her for what happened. Excuse me, my kid just had these 5 huge teenagers land on top of him, and I shouldn't be upset? I tell her that I've supported her guards when they were wronged by people yelling at them when they weren't watching their kids. I'm all for teenage kids having fun, but that the lifeguards who have to follow the rules, just like all the other patrons at the pool (i.e. 1 on the slide at a time -- which if they had, Walker would have only been plummeted by 1 not 5).

The good news is that Walker wasn't hurt --- I think Cameron was more upset watching it all unfold from the top as he was in line behind all the guards and chose to walk back down the steps instead of come down the slide.

We packed up and left. I've already emailed the pool manager (not the college kid --- but the manager above all the managers). I find this unacceptable --- unfortunately, I suspect our family is now "marked" when it comes to spending time at the pool. I'm sure all of the 6 guards as well as the manager are going to remember us. Gary says they will just not goof off when we are around any more --- I suspect they might goof off even more not just to throw salt in the wound, so to speak.
OMG Cindy!!! I'm just glad to hear that Walker was ok!! That could have turned out terribly!! I think that those lifeguards should have a little more respect for their jobs as lifeguards. They have a duty to make smart choices around the pool and surrounding area. Maybe they shouldn't be lifeguards if they can't follow the rules!

I just wanted to pop in and say Hi! I really hate typing on the laptop!! You guys have been really chatty today!

Cindy, I'm glad Walker is OK.

Karen, COSI was awesome. The Star Wars exhibit was soooo cool!! The kids had a great time in the Kids part.

The Zoo today was great too. It rained on and off most of the day, but I think the trained Disney park traveler I am helped me through the day. The animals were the most active I've ever seen, especially the Lions and Tigers. And there was a little baby Koala that was the cutest thing I've ever seen. Emma's favorite was the walk through kangaroo exhibit. The ones that weren't hopping around got a lesson from her on how to jump. Julia's favorite was the elephant. She spent 10 minutes making elephant sounds to the baby!

I'm really ready for some kind of drink. One more day with my inlaws and then on Wednesday morning we head out and go to Hershey for some real fun!!
I'm glad that you're having a good time, Diana!! Have fun at Hershey tomorrow!!!

Ok, I'm all caught up now!!!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

May all of our soldiers around the world be safe and may we all thank them for their service to protect our freedom!!

Hey, and I just realized that I passed 4,000 posts!!!

:cheer2: Yeah, ME!!:cheer2:

WOW!!! Hey, Squid, that trip to Canada sounds like a nightmare to me! You should write it up for a TV show screenplay! You could make a series out of it! Do you watch the "RED GREEN" show? Are you sure you didn't meet up with them? ;)
