I've already asked the 1 mom going to summer camp if she will help Cameron with sunscreen.

Us Mom's have to do what we have to do.

Speaking of sunscreen....I bought the new Coppertone Spray sunscreen and it rocks!! :cool1: You should totally get it for Cameron because 1--he can totally do it himself 2--it's fun to spray on, so more likely to be applied! A friend of mine had the Banana Boat brand side by side to my Coppertone and mine was way easier to spray, was a lot more of a fine mist and required absolutely no rubbing at all, so no junk on your hands.

Sorry we've been mia. My father in law in Chicago passed away on Friday (I was married before and my husband passed away) so I flew to Chicago Monday for the wake and funeral. It was great to see everyone but a very hard trip to make.

Julie, that must have been so hard for you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Is it an aerosol?? I have some Coppertone Sport that's in an aerosol can. I use it on my back and arms when we go out and haven't had any problems. My kids tell me it "stings" them. I might try to Coppertone and see if it's the same reaction.

But, not for camp. No aerosols allowed. I thought that would solve my delemia of Cameron using it if he could just spray it on -- but they only allow pumps. And, they don't work very well.

On my side, Cameron had a friend over for a sleepover right after Memorial Day weekend. The boy had been camping/boating with his Dad. Neglected to put sun screen on and came home as a lobster. Cameron saw the effects of his peeling skin so I'll have to remind him of what his friend looked like as a result of the sunburn. Hopefully that will convince him to make sure an apply it.

I hear the leaders will remind the boys to use sunscreen and bugspray but ultimately the responsibility falls back on the kids. With youth protection the way it is these days, the leaders can help the kids provided there are many other leaders around.

There are several things that Cameron & I are going to be talking about again over the next couple of days. I feel like the momma bird sending her little one off to fly for the first time. I worry that Cameron will get homesick (probably not), I worry that he'll have run ins with the other boys, I worry that he'll not like the meals served and I worry mostly that he'll get hurt.

I wonder if it's too late to take Walker to Disney World for the week to help pass the time? Actually, I might do that next summer if Cameron enjoys camp enough to go again.

I wasn't thinking about the no aerosol/camping thing. The avid camper that I am. :lmao: I've actually been through Girl Scout camping training, just never went camping with my troop. So I knew it, I just wasn't thinking.

So it is aerosol, and I bought the Coppertone kids, it's waterproof and spf 50. It had sandcastles on the front and my kids haven't complained when I spray it on them so I'm assuming it isn't stinging them!

Good morning everyone!

Julie - sorry to hear about your loss. Next time you come to Chicago I hope it is for something happier and we can all get together.

Cindy - have you heard of bull frog/mosquito coast? We had this discussion on the May thread and it is supposed to be very good because it has sunscreen and bug replellent together.

Julie I am so sorry to hear about your father-in-law. That must have been horrible.

Gail it sounds like your surgery went well. Get lots of rest and take care of yourself.

I love the aerosol sunscreen. My girls do it by themselves and they don't complain about it.

BB was kinda boring last night but that is what I expected. I don't think I could watch the show if cowboy is back in the house. He drove me crazy last time. I would love chicken George, Bunky, and Will. I really don't care what girls are there. Can't wait until it starts.

I just realized that we will be at SSR when it is time to make our Palo reservations and excursions. I think we were going to try to get brunch. I guess we will just have to wait until we get to the ship.

Avon also makes a Skin So Soft with bug repellent and sunscreen. Don't get the blue, because no matter how hard you try, you can't make it all disappear! Just ask my Smurf kids! :rotfl2:

No I haven't. I'll check it out.

I tend to stay away from the skin so soft products. When they first came out, it seemed like they were rather greasy. Are they still? I know Cameron, if he has to rub it in, it's not going to happen and then he'll slip his tshirt on over that and everything he wears will be ruined. Not that it matters much, he grows so fast that nothing fits him for long.

We are staying at SSR. We have never been there. I requested Springs section but I know nothing about it.

We just stayed there for a week. Honestly, some of the bad stuff said about SSR here on the DIS had me pretty worried. We even called a week before our intended check in date and tried to get somewhere else.....ANYWHERE else.....

but it was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a GREAT location (the Springs) and just LOVED it. Not sure I'd like being in the very back of the place, but I have no hesitations about going there again!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!! I think I pin traded with you!! (SSR CM's have the BEST pins, IMHO)

WOW!! It's a small world.

Btw, SSR food beats other resort food hands down. I LOVED the roasted veggie flatbread (without peppers for me).....It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Gail, glad to hear everything went well. Rest up. Make everyone do EVERYTHING for you! :)

Julie, sorry to hear about your FIL. :grouphug:

re: sunburn....Nick burnt his shoulders on the cruise in May and I broke down and bought him a rash guard shirt at WDW. It was and IS the best thing. Now he only has to sunscreen the parts he can reach himself! :) Bought one for KT last night at the mall. Wish they had them for my size. Must look around. Big article in the paper yesterday about how teens are getting skin cancer---and not sun worshipping teens or those who go to tanning beds....just everyday teens! :earseek:

re: camps....Mine are going to a 4 day, 3 night church camp in a couple of weeks. Thing is, I was a counsellor at the camp last year and I'm not sure if it's better or worse that I KNOW what's going on. I saw the meals served...they were good, by my standards, but Nick is picky. I even talked to him last night about how he HAS to eat (he gets bad hypoglycemia spells with grey skin and puking if he doesn't)....luckily, there is always cereal out for kids who don't like what's served. The bathrooms....YUCK. I"m not a germ-a-phobe, but I have told the kids that it's only 4 days....they do NOT have to take a shower if they don't want. BLECH. I told them to swim every day! The kids would drag dirt in on their shoes and then they'd be messy with the water and it was, literally, an icky mess in there. (shudder) I won't go on....otherwise I'll be pulling them out of camp!! HA HA HA!!!

Ok, that's it....I caught up! :)
Catch ya later! :)

Thanks Diana! I was wondering about that stuff. I'm definitely going to get some!!

skin so soft has never worked as a bug repellant for me. I did not know about bull frog either. I just bought the neutrogena cooling mist.

Gail - Take it slow and dont overdo it just cause you feel ok. Take it easy and make John dote on you.

Ooh, I might just check with Mr. Cool to see if this is something he would wear. Good idea! Thanks.

yeah. that's how it was with KT....she was afraid she'd look dumb. but she is miss modest and hates any bathing suit that doesn't have a skirt so this is right up her alley. besides, at WDW we pointed out the sheer number of kids that were wearing them! LOTS!
