Ok, I'm all caught up and I'm done talking to myself. Have a great Monday everyone!!!

If anyone is thinking about booking any special dining Food and Wine events, I would not hesitate as a lot of events booked up really fast this morning. It took me 5 minutes to get through and I was on hold for about 25 more minutes. I was able to get the Kitchen Conversations on Friday but not Call of the wild (Canada Food and Wine Pairings). I am also booked for Party for the Senses for October 28th. The November 4th PFTS was booked solid before I got through.

Gotta run to a meeting,

Jeff

I also could not get into "call of the wild" on the 20th. I did get in Coral reef as did my inlaws.

Can I sit with you guys for the Kitchen Conversations? I just booked for myself since I doubt DD would appreciate this.

Hi everyone

We had a great time in Hilton Head. It was a long, relaxing week and we had a blast! There were only a couple of thunderstorms that rolled in -- one Monday night made us glad that we'll never have to suffer through a hurricane in the midwest. It looked rather nasty. :scared: The kids did a lot of fishing -- Walker caught two sting rays & we lost track of all the sharks they caught while out shark fishing. They also had a lot of luck from the pier at the Disney resort -- Cameron caught a small sting ray, Gary caught a small shark and Walker caught a huge flounder in his crab net!

We got in late last night (or early this morning as it was 2 a.m.) It's going to be an early night in our house.

Now off to catch up. :tilt:

We do the park and ride and Midway. Not sure of the name of the place , it was like 4 blocks away and they have a very timely shuttle. The outer parking lot for the airport itself was not that much more and it too had a very timely shuttle service. We will park if we have a real early flight out of midway or Ohare, or have my dad play driver if we have a later flight.

Squid

Steve, you were absolutely right! Parking at Midway was a breeze and both the shuttle to the airport and from the airport were waiting for us to board. It couldn't have been any easier.

The only thing we learned on this trip was not to get to the airport early like they suggested. Being we had a 5:40 a.m. flight, we were there by 2:45ish and then had to wait for the AirTran agents to arrive and start for the morning. Then security didn't let us pass through until 4:30 a.m. so we did a lot of hurry up & waiting.

Next time, we know now, to sleep in a little later.

It's great to be reading all of your excitement with booking the excursions. I can hear it in every word posted! I'm glad everyone was able to get what they wanted (so far, I haven't read anyone not getting their requests).

Wow! You guys have been busy booking all the fun stuff!! Unfortunately I can't book ours until August! I have no idea what to book, but who knows, I will figure it out. Hopefully there is something left! We will see!

I know that I have been really quiet for a while, and I have a really good reason for it! I have met this wonderfully incredible guy, and we just clicked and have been spending every minute that we have together. So, I have been busy with him, and the kids (he has a daughter 2 1/2 yrs old.) But I have been keeping up on the posts, just not replying! I will try to reply a little more.

Wonderful news, Tina! I bet the girls are loving having a little one around to spoil.

What's with this server?? :badpc:

This turned into a really long post--so if you aren't into scrapbooking, just skip over, move along--nothing to see here! ;)

OMG! I learned some of the coolest things!! All this time scrapbooking, I've seen a bunch of stuff in stores that I wouldn't even begin to understand what it was--and now they are some of my favorite things to use!!

Let's see, I took 6 classes while I was there. The first bump in the road happened when we arrived at the Convention Center at 8am Friday morning. No power. Thankfully, we didn't stay on site because they lost power at 1am and didn't get it back until 10:30am. We're talking pregnant women walking down 13 flights in the dark and 90 degree heat here. It was terrible. Not anybody's fault but mother nature. We had a terrible thunder storm that knocked out the grid the center was on. So my 8:30 Disney class was postponed until 6pm. They made it well worth our while by giving us this awesome Wedding scrapbook kit for going to the class. Lisa Bearnson (she's a "famous" scrapbooking lady) was great and walked around, talking to everyone, taking pics. They made a crappy situation good.

My first class was a Bazzill/Basic Grey class where we made an accordian album and a 2 page BG layout using Gypsy I think it is. It was really cute. I had never used chipboard and did in this class. I really like it now, so much I had to buy a big pack of it!

Then was a Down and Dirty Class. This used alcohol inks, paints and fabrics to make 3 tags. It was very messy. All I can say is my new favorite thing is the alcohol ink. I hadn't even heard of it before and I just had to buy it.

Then the Disney Board Book. Basically, you take a board book and cover it with paper. Super easy, and super cheap if you just grab an old kids book to alter.

Friday morning we did an Embellishment class that I didn't like. The paper we used was Hot off the Press paper and it was "cheap", like flimsy. I wasn't impressed.

Then came a Little Black Dress Embellishment class that rocked! We used Prima Chipboard Book Covers and an accordian album. The coolest thing in this class was this ribbon they sell. It's really stiff and cracks but if you wet it, it gets softer and eventually turns into yarn. I went to their website when I got home and there's pictures of a dress they made using this ribbon! Of course, I came home with this ribbon!

My last class was my favorite. It was a Quick Quotes class called My Daughter's Hand, based on the poem by the same name. I'll have to take pictures of the book we made, because I can't even begin to describe it. It came out so cool!! Of course, I bought stuff to make more books that way!

I'll take pics of everything and load them into photobucket for you to check out. I had a great time and learned so much.

Yes but Cindy has Brunch at 10 and I've seen her put away the crab legs. Hope these is some left for you. :rotfl2:

This from a friend!!

Just because you don't know what your missing. You must be dying of envy watching me suck them down.

In Hilton Head, we've always done catch & release. This year, Walker wanted to try and cook one. They are blue crabs down there -- not really big, but enough to sample we hear as a little snack. So, Walker caught a doozy and we brought it back to the room. Boiled up the water with a hint of vinegar (a tip from our friend Scott). Gary closed his eyes and toss the crab in. It took less than a minute for it to turn bright orange. When it was done, no one wanted to eat it. The claws were pokie and we didn't have the right tools for the job. Then Cameron announced that the crab died for no reason, as we tossed it into the garbage. Suffice to say, I think that's probably the one and only crab we cook in Hilton Head -- unless they come from Piggly Wiggly! ;)

ETA: No, Mary, I'm not really mad at you! Just teasing!

You sure can and I'd welcome the company as I am attending by myself (I'm single). I'm not sure how they are going to sit everyone for this. Has anyone done an event like this before? I thought it might be setup like the Food Network shows where the kitchen is in the center and the seats wrap around that and are elevated so all can see.

Also, if anyone else is interested I hope to do a few wine seminars/food tastings Thursday thru Sunday afternoons and would welcome any company.

I've caught up throught the crocs phase of a couple of days ago. I don't wear them either b/c I am not certain of the support given or of the anti-sweat factor.

Lily, I just bought the Athen crocs recently. They are like flip flops, however, they don't hurt my feet the way normal flip flops would. Usually I can't stand the feel of the thingy between my toes but this one doesn't bother me. And, my feet don't hurt after wearing them all day. I wore them most of the time at HH, except when bike riding, and not once did I feel like I needed a break. I've had a heel spur in the past and certainly don't want to go down that route again, so if they bothered me in the least, I would have gone back to my Easy Spirit gym shoes in a heartbeat.

So, I'm happy to report, no support issues for me. And, being they are open, no sweaty feet either. :thumbsup2

Cindy....The girls are really loving it, they get along very well with her. Its amazing they fight with each other, but never with her! I wish they would act the way they act with her towards each other.

Welcome Back! Glad to hear your trip was good!

Now I need to let you know what happened to me yesterday. Tom and I were putting together our new patio furniture and it's metal. Well, we both let go of the back part of the chair at the same time and it swung around and crushed my left index finger between the back of the chair and the arm! I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. My finger swelled and started turning purple! Tom wanted to know if I wanted to go to the hospital to get an x-ray but I said no and put ice on it.

I made it through reservations, no sleep and a full day in the office then went to see my doctor at 5:30pm for an x-ray. It looks like a have a hairline fracture and am in a splint for a full week! I'm so glad I didn't go to the emergency room yesterday. I never would've been able to type and get through reservations or chat!

Annmarie

Annmarie, by now I hope your feeling a bit better. pixiedust: Yikes, talk about a freak accident. I

AnnMarie, Ouch... That sounds painful. You are better than I; My dad had a hip repplacement last week, Sunday Night He had a fever spike and my mom called me over at 9:00PM. I was in the ER with them waiting for a room. I got to leave at around 3:30, and I fell hard on my pillow when I got home after dropping my mom off.... Dad is doing much better, his fever is below 100, and they will let him go home if it stays below 100.5 for 24 hours. I think he will get out on Wednesday....

:figment:

David, I hope all is well with your Dad and he's on his way to getting back on his feet. I remember very well how difficult it was for my sister when she went through the hip replacement. Even being much younger, it still took a lot out of her. pixiedust:

Welcome back, Cindy! We missed you around here!

Your story about the crab reminded me of something that happened to Ken and me while we were in Asheville. We had been out bike riding and decided to come in to eat lunch. We knew we would be eating a big meal that night (it was our anniversary), so we decided to get a sandwich and share it. There was a soft shell crab sandwich on the menu, so that's what we ordered. We took it up to our room to eat, and were we in for a surprise! I thought it would be crab salad, Ken thought it would be a crab cake, but no! I was the whole crab! :scared1: And as Ken put it, guts and all!! He called the restaurant and complained, and the hostess said "Sir, that's considered a delicacy here." And Ken said "Not for me, it's not!" Then the hostess asked if we would like a Black Angus burger instead, and Ken said "I'll be right down!"
