:faint: ASHLEY + KAREN: :thumbsup2 Congrats on Gary's BA degree! WOW! And... next year, a MASTERS!!! You must be so very proud!

ERIC + RENAE: :cloud9: Congrats on becoming Grandparents! Enjoy the count down.

 Hi Everyone! It's been a busy month for us with Mom's continued recovery from the spider bite. She's off the IV and the orla antibiotics. It's been a long 7 weeks. I'm happy to report she's getting her strength back now.

Going to WDW with Brandon was wonderfully HECTIC, and jammed full of great memories!!! Expedition Everest was amazing. I am NOT a coaster person, and had no trouble on this ride. The drop on Splash Mountain is more intense. I will confess, going backwards was a bit un-nerving though. But as soon as the initial sensation passed, the rest wasn't bad. MK had extra hours 'til 3 AM and 2 AM :faint: We didn't make it that long, but came close.

We missed POC being open, and aren't really looking forward to seeing the changes, but time moves forward.

An upcoming Disney event for us will be a Special Pirates of the Carribean Party in NYC at the Disney Store on 5th Avenue. pirate: pirate: They are closing the store, and turning it into a POC celebration complete with dinner and a 12:01 showing of the new movie. (I'm glad we had some practice with late Pirate movies on the Magic!) Jason Surrell will also be there signing his book. It will be fun to see him again. Crash Mc Crevy will also be there. He is the creature creator from POC 1 + 2. There are still a LOT of openings for ths event. www.disneygallery.com
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!! So glad we're still all keeping in touch :thumbsup2

Just for fun, if you have an adventure and have your lanyard with ya, take a picture and post it here. Like Linda in Hong Kong, Renae in Alaska, Us on a dive trip etc etc etc. Photo must show you and your Lanyard. Could be Fun.

Scott,

What a great idea! I wish you had had it a month ago, though....lol! Next time I'll take it for sure!

Kay,

What did you do to your toe?

:furious: I hate water... :furious:

As you may know that I work for the Red Cross Disaster Services. We have had a bit of rain here. :rolleyes1

The Cuyahoga River crested last night 8 feet over flood stage and 2 inches over the record! LOTS of rain in the last 2 days affecting all of northern Ohio. One area has about 200 homes affected. Still counting other areas.

So I put this picture on my computer at work:

It has helped. :) So just checking in before I collapse in bed. It is going to be a long week.

Hi Lanyard Friends,

I know you all have been so encouraging to us when Mom went through her hospital stay and then IV treatments at home. She finally took her final antibiotic pill on Tuesday this past week. She was continuing to feel really tired, and was looking forward to finally building her strength back up.

Today we noticed she mised some words (something my mother never does ;) Then we saw she had some problems getting just the right word she wanted to say. After some pursuading (HARD pursuading) we got her to the emergency room. She is now staying overnight for observation with the possibility of a mini stroke. The doctors think it may pass, but say it could repeat itself and get worse.

We are so greatful this didn't happen while we were at WDW with Brandon. My sister also happened to be up this weekend to bring Brandon home, so all of us are together. Fortunately, there is no paralysis. She knows us and can speak. There are some times of confusion. We will know more tomorrow after more tests are completed.

Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. :cloud9: They mean so much.
Georgie + Joe

Georgie

Mom and I are sending prayers and hugs from Canada. If you need anything....please know we are only a phone call away.

Georgie our thoughts are with you guys, hang in there.

Georgie and Joe.. our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for your moms recovery ..sharon & jean-marc

Georgie,
Sorry to hear this...if it is a TIA (mini stroke) she will probably be fine, and should improve over the next 24 hours. Please feel free to PM if you have any questions and I'll be happy to ask any of the neuro docs I work with, if I cannot answer it myself.

You'll be in our thoughts & prayers.

I just completed a class on taking care of patients with incurable diseases, such as cancer, asthma, etc- palliative care, care for the patient who need comfort, but cannot be cured. One of my classmates, who is a physician- posted this story. Although I do not work with childern in my "regular" job, I do work with chidren who are in crisis for my "other" job. I thought the group might enjoy this story- Georgie, even though I didn't know about your mother-last night I thought you, and thought you would enjoy this most of all.

" Lynn is an active little six year old girl full of life and fun who loves animals. All her stuffed animals have special names. The hippopotamus I gave her is named “Phillip Johnny Bob.” In her bedroom no carnivorous animal sits near a herbivore.
Lynn came to us after an x-ray of her knee, obtained after a minor fall in the park, showed an ugly mass arising from the tibia bone. The accident had nothing to do with the tumor, but it probably brought the cancer to our attention before it spread. This type of bone tumor is called an osteogenic sarcoma. A cure requires complete removal of the tumor and a year of chemotherapy.
This is the heart-wrenching part: an amputation certainly means the tumor is completely removed and has few complications. A “limb-sparing procedure,” though effective when feasible, is fraught with complications such as poor healing and infection. Even if these are avoided, the limb is often dysfunction: It is unable to bare stress, or has abnormal growth, or is easily broken. Many such children cannot play sports or be active because of weakness or pain. And with all the surgical reconstruction the leg often looks “withered.”
Therapy for osteogenic sarcoma entails three months of “up-front” chemotherapy before surgery. During this time, Lynn’s parents took her to many orthopedic specialists. They agonized. No parent should have to face such a choice: amputation of their child’s leg or saving the leg at the expense of being active. Everyone, Lynn, her parents, the doctors and nurses, became more anxious as the date approached.
Lynn’s parents (appropriately, I believe) decided on an amputation.
They asked me to tell her, because they could not.
Six year olds are very concrete and direct, so I knew Lynn had not understood when the attending physician said she needed another “procedure” to “make her better.” I told her straight out: “Lynn we have to cut off your leg to get rid of the cancer or you will die. We love you, so we have to do this even though we don’t want to.” She cried; her parents cried; I did not cry. I told her it was OK to be scared or angry. I told her it was not her fault. I told her she was going to be OK. Then I promised her I would come back so that she could ask me any questions; anything at all.
An hour later, I came back. Lynn was composed. She had a question for me, only one:
“Can I still be a zookeeper when I grow up?”
Then I cried."

Happy Sunday everyone!

Thank-you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I just returned from the hospital. Mom's doctor confirmed she had a mild stroke. She will be in one more night with many more tests tomorrow. The ecocardiogram will tell if there is any heart damage. Her MRI was this morning. We have no results yet. She is currently on asprin. She continues to speak, but can't remember some words. She is also very calm, where usually she is type A+++ personality. While in many ways the calmness is a blessing, We'd rather have the hyper version of Mom! ;)

The doctor said this may pass. They will know in a few weeks. If a month passes with no improvement, than the window will be closed.

Your encouragement has meant the world! :cloud9:

Thanks!!! Happy rest of the weekend to all! We are taking things 1 hour at a time. :hourglass

P.S. Great story Celeste!

Bob....you are sooooooooo lucky.....I would die to have a Cracker Barrel and Bob Evans close by....both are not here in Canada and our closest Cracker Barrel is 40 minutes from the border but there is a Bob Evans only 15 minutes from the border.....I think Mom and I know where every Cracker Barrel and Bob Evans is along our drive from here to WDW!!!!!!!!

Been a long week. Weekend was good except for a 3 hour monsoon along with a tornado warning this afternoon. Afterwards, we went to Cracker Barrel for dinner. So many yummy choices and so little time. :teeth:

With the Caracker Barrel, Bob Evans, IHOP and Krispy Kreme all within 5 minutes of here, it's a wonder I am not like the Michelin Man.

Georgie...
Our prayers are with your mom and your entire family. :grouphug:

Celeste...
That is a real tear jerker...it rings close to home for me. My nephew had his leg amputated below his knee 10 years ago.
