That is so sad about the boy. I heard about it at work today and was given the article to read. I don't think I would have allowed my 4 year old to ride that ride. I had heard conflicting reports about Misson Space from people that rode it (some loved it but most hated it) and I decided it was not the kind of ride for me. I have also heard that that while this is the first death on the ride, there have been many people taken to the hospital as a result of riding the ride.

Elaine

Actually it's not that bad. 6 people have needed to go to the hospital after riding M:S during an 8 month period. None were serious, all wer eanxiety attack type incidents. Most people that I know that have ridden it have loved it, mostly because with all of the new warnings alot of people are terrified to ride it now.
The ride isn't that bad. 2G's is nothing for a coaster, but the intensity of the ride it was gets you. My mom who is usually pretty good about rides, absolutly flipped out her first trip on M:S, but by the end of it, loved it and wanted to go again. A lot of the problem many people have is claustraphobia.
Anyways, theu the grapevine, Jeff has heard this child was a former preemie. If that is the case, and was a 6 month preemie like Jeff was told, he would be more susceptible to neurological problems and such. Again, he probably had an underlying condition and the forces of M:S set it off. Not the rides fault, but just horrible luck.
And I'm with everyone else, just because a kid meets a height requirement doesn't mean they should go on it. M:S is not for most 4 year olds. It's not for a lot of 40 year olds either!

Aggggghhhhh! WHAT Castaway Club DVD?? After 5 cruises we don't get one?? :confused3 Waaaaaaaaaaa

Lynda I loved your pics..... however I tried to download a few and it didn't work. I am hopeless when it comes to trying to figure out what went wrong. All I got was white boxes with x's in them!!! Same thing when I tried to download some from others sites. Oh well.

I agree about the medical condition. A hand mixer in your brain....I'm so glad I didn't go on it. I'm so sorry about your friends son.

Elaine

Thanks- we are going on the two year reunion of his death in a few weeks.

I got my DVD today as well- which I didn't think was fair because they had cruise specials that expired 5/31.... :confused3

I also received my Panama post card last Thursday....

I didn't get a CC DVD either, 6 cruises and counting... bummer!

The story about the boy on Mission Space was all over the news here, and it's so sad... I feel really sorry for the family. His father is out of the country, and his mom is dealing with it alone till he can get home. I've never been on the ride because of a bad back, but my family has. The boys love it, but Eric doesn't. I've heard many, many people say they got naseous from it, but a lot really like it. I do think they need to keep smaller kids off, though... some people seem to think that if they're tall enough it's fine no matter how young they are, and I think that's a mistake... oh well, it's their judgement call.

Poor Scott...he'll never find out the name

Celeste, I don’t give up that easily … I will find it out some how, even if I have to go on another cruise…. :cool1: :goodvibes

That should keep you busy when winter comes.....uh.. in August right?
That means a late winter for us, works for me….. :cold: :cold: :cold:

Leslie, we will not be at WDW before the Member Cruise, but will be there the weekend after.

Elaine, we have three Malamutes and your friend who has a puppy is in an experience if she has never had one.

We got our CD yesterday and I have not played it yet, too scared to as I will want to quit and leave for the Islands. Now what is wrong with that????? Lynn also got one, see there are advantages on having different last names.

Our DVD came, I think, last Friday. Wonder how they randomly select people for it?? Guess we'll never know

Hi Kelli :wave2:

I know someone in Panama that would probably LOVE a DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elaine

P.S. I know it's too late now...but I heard you could have gone to Guest Services and got an extra copy of everything for Etta since she lives at a different address.

Is he in the military? I know Disney runs a lot of specials for military people because of everything that is going on right now. Just curious....

Elaine--add me to the list of M:S fans!!! But I will go on record as saying I've ONLY ridden it with the aid of a patch!!! My niece, (18) who is a thrill seeker, loved it also, without the patch!!!

It's already in the works! :goodvibes As soon as the DCL planning DVD gets here, they'll both go in the mail!!!

Etta doesn't do that high tech stuff!! ;) She has enough trouble with a VHS tape. :sad2: (Trust me on this!!!)

Except for the blanket, Etta didn't want any of the gifts---well--and except for the travel bag and water bottles our TA (Thanks again, Carol!) had delivered to the room. Everything came with HER name on it, since she was primary. (I thought since it was a HA room, she oughtta be primary) She wanted to know why Keith and I didn't get anything...I let her know right away that she had to SHARE!!!!

What the news said is that he works for the UN as a translator... The name sounded foreign, but I was in the next room when they said it, so I don't remember what it was.

> Orange County detectives say Daudi Bamuwamye of Pennsylvania boarded the ride with his sister and mother Monday afternoon. According to officials, the 4-year-old met the 44-inch height requirement for the ride. <

This is what the Sentinel says! Just plain sad!!! :guilty:

Perfect your begging skills...it works.

I got a CD too. I haven't played it. Usually DCL does not recall I exist, and if it does it thinks I live at someone else's address.

this 40 year old LOVES Mission Space.

You know me too well, Catherine!! Begging ISN'T something I do well...... :sad1: ...now whining, THAT I'm pretty good at!!!

Catherine I have been meaning to comment that your pic of the unbrulee is much more flattering than the pale pink blob of crap that I was served. :rotfl:

Do you think if I called DCL and whined and begged that they would send me a DVD? I can blame it on the drugs. :teeth:

We have no photographic evidence of the actual unbrulee. It was that unappealing, especially when Jen mushed it up into a slimy pink scum. My pic is an approximate simulation.

Now, the essence of leeches, on the other hand...

Hey I forgot to mention what I have learned about that little yacht we saw in Cabo. Remember the one with the helicopter and sail boat. It was named Tatoosh, The owner is Paul Allen of Microsoft. So as we use those Microsoft products we now know how he is spending his $$$$. Tatoosh is 301 ft with a crew of 30 plus. This one is the mid size one of his three super yachts. That is a 40 sailboat on the starboard side.

This 50 plus kid really likes Mission Space. I like flipping the switches and pushing the buttons. Then the light comes on that says “feed the monkey.”

Are we talking about the planning DVD or the Castaway Club Shore side Survival Kit?
We got the Survival Kit. It has some songs, screen saver and some photos.
