We're going to Alaska!!!

Eric just booked it tonight, we're going on a 7 day cruise from Anchorage to Vancouver starting on May 21st! It's not Disney, but it's a cruise... We'll be sailing on Holland America's Veendam, a 55,000 ton ship. I'm starting to get excited, even though there will be no Dis events or friends... There will be amazing new sights and excursions, though... Now, where do I find warm clothes??????? LOL... gotta go through the boxes of stuff I haven't looked at in 5 years of living in Florida!

Renae

Congratulations Renae! I know you'll love it! It is a much different kind of beauty than the Caribbean. No less beautiful, that's for sure! You'll no doubt see countless bald eagles and we even had lots of bear, sea lion, and whale sightings. There is also nothing neater than seeing large chunks of ice float by while you are on your balcony bundled up in a blanket enjoying a hot cup of coffee, tea or cocoa.

Being used to Florida weather now, you'll be really chilly up there! You'll notice it will get gradually warmer the further south you go. The scenery will also go from a lot whiter to greener.

I looked up your cruise and the only port we visited that you will be is Juneau. We learned a lot of neat facts about there on our bus ride to our whale watching excursion. I really wanted to visit Ketchikan. The pictures I've seen of the buildings there look really neat!

Have a great time! They probably don't sell a whole lot of ski jackets in Orlando, do they? ;)

I'm getting excited for the upcoming repo cruises- has anyone else from this board seen the new stuff at DCL.com? I know Debbie has ;)

My sister and her family will probably be going on the Sept. cruise with me, I'm SOO excited that I can hardly stand it!

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes! Steve, it sounds like you've been on one. Which one did you do, the round trip or a one way? What time of year were you there? Was the whale-watching excursion the one where they promise you that if you don't see a whale, they'll give you $100 back as you get off the boat? We're thinking of that, but there is another one with a pro photographer to teach us how to get the best wildlife shots from a boat and on land.... I was shocked at the prices for excursions on this trip! So many of them are over $200 that we are going to have to pick and choose very carefully....

gotta get back to bed, (yawn)

Hi Celeste! Yes, the DCL site is finally "officially" teasing us with their MAJOR announcement set for March 21st. At least that date is out!

How about this tidbit I picked up on the DIS Mystery at Sea thread...

"I think all the buzz is about something we just heard about from a crew member on our cruise last week. He said DCL is in the process of moving the actual pirate ship used in Pirates of the Carribean to Castaway Cay where they would turn it into a museum. Only time will tell..."

I'm excited for all the LANYARD PEOPLE going on that September cruise, and all the great events you're planning. We'll be following you on the boards. ;)

Hey... I just had a $ thought... if the prices on the transatlantic repro are too high for us... maybe we can come on the September cruise instead! Time will tell. :hourglass

Hey Georgie,
I too have heard that the black pearl will be moved to Castaway Cay. I had not heard that it would be a musuem- just that it would be docked there for a while. I heard this on one of the many disney podcasts that I listen to while I am at the gym....however none of them are official podcasts. pirate:

It is also exciting that you might come with us in September, but sad that you wouldn't be there for the transatlantic- as I know that is the one you really want to go on. I may have to pick up yet another job to help pay for all of my cruising.... :smooth:

Scott is doing much better today, he even got his own breakfast. He is still on pain killers and probably will be for quite a while. He has now been awake for more than 1 hour at a time, and almost slept thru the night.

Lynn
:eeyore:

Scott: I hope you get better soon!

Renae: We did the round-trip from Vancouver. Our whale watching excursion was a bit pricey but we booked it through Princess and didn't know that we could book it directly through the vendors for much less. Ours guaranteed you would see whales or we would get a FULL refund. The tour operators said in the 15 years they have been doing this that they have never had to give a refund! In the couple of hours our tour lasted, we saw countless whales including several that were jumping out of the water. PM me your email address and I'll send you a quick video clip of what I filmed.

Celeste: Which Disney/travel podcasts do you subscribe to? I listen to them every day at work and while I walk. I'm pretty far behind since I haven't worked since Emma was born. I have a lot of catching up to do next week!

Ahh, across the pond. Very lovely in March. My parents lived in Harlow for a few years and just moved back to the states in December- I loved flying to the UK in March. Warm there, cold here and GREAT airfare! I love the grocery stores there: Marks and Spencers and right now in my sleep deprived state- I can't remember the name of the other one- maybe Tesco?

3 hours until I get to climb in my bed and not work nights for another 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I have been there- but that is not the grocery store I was thinking of- this one is more like a regular grocery store. (on UK standards)

I love brown sauce, seafood sauce, worcestershire crisps, etc. I actually buy potatoe chips from the UK online. Where else can you get prawn flavored chips? :teeth: The store is in Massachusetts, over by Peter.

LIKE??? You must get paid better than I do. :lmao:

Peter, you know my upcoming plans. So far September and we'll see what DCL makes official- but I am on every waiting list known to man. I would go back on nights if it meant being able to cruise more, but the pay isn't that much better. I also have another cruise booked for December 07, but it is a holding cruise.
