G'morning all!

Just found out we're in store for a trip to New Orleans in a month. Haven't been since I was about 9!

Anyone have any good places or things to do there to tell me about? Staying at the Renaiisance Pere Marquette...

yea!!! Two fun trips! :cheer2:

The Aquarium is pretty neat. “Mothers” for a local breakfast spot, small hole in the all, Café du Mond’e for an order and coffee. Beniegtts (sp?) that is and coffee. Margarittaville. House of Blues, and there is another eating place close to Jackson Square but I can not remember the name.

Joe is doing quite well on the honey do list it seems? Do you have a roof back on yet?

Linda

YES.. thank goodness.. we do have a roof back on! :cheer2: We were very lucky in that we did not get the expected amount of rain the next two days..
Now of course we don't know if it worked... since there has been no more rain!!
So the roof is on but I still have a big hole in my breakfast area ceiling... I can see the roof rafters, beams etc. Mr. Handyman wants to wait until it rains to make sure it doesn't leak. :umbrella: In the meantime the air conditioning is probably pouring out thru there..... just like Disney we are air conditioning the outside....LOL
I suggested getting up there with the garden hose to test it...but he wants it to "cure" first.....let the sun bake the sticky stuff. Who knows! At least it's not raining in the kitchen anymore.

Fixing the inside is going to be a mess... the house is older and has that "popcorn" ceiling stuff. Luckily the area is small.. but we will have to scrape all that stuff off the rest of the ceiling so it will match when he reinstalls drywall or whatever it is that goes up there. Then we'll have to paint it I guess because I don't want to have to get the popcorn people in here for just that space.
Ah the joys of home ownership....

We went to New Orleans for the primiere of The Hunchback... Such Fun. Disney had a special Mardi Gras Parade. Anyway, yes, have a beignet!!! They are such fun, with powdered sugar everywhere! :rotfl:

There was also a great flea market right next to the beignet place on the weekend. My DH got several great old Coca-Cola bottles. Me, I bought jewelry, and a great sequined red/white/blue ball cap.

We also took a tour through our hotel to see the Southern Mansions. One of my favorites was Oak Alley. It was beautiful!

Be careful at night. We were stopped in a not-so-well-lit-empty street walking back to our hotel after dinner and asked for $20.00. Fortunately we were okay.

HAVE FUN!

Hello? Anyone out there? We've been silent for almost 5 hours! Crazy!

Anyway, thought I would share my good news. I requested May 12-27 off for this trip and my vacation was approved! Yippy!!!!! :cool1:

Leslie, glad your hole is gone, but sad that you lost your skylight. I understand the popcorn ceiling frustration. We had it in our last home. It's such a pain to fix, I agree that you best solution is just to remove it from the rest of the kitchen ceiling.

Congratulations on your vacation, Kara. I'm here, but infrequent. I ordered my shirts from zazzle and cafepress and should receive cafe probably tomorrow.
In the meantime, Clean, prepare, pay bills and try to get caught up in the office for two weeks off.
Bill

Guess so Bob, but glad you're here to keep me company. Funny, with only about 71 days left before most of us begin our travel to MCO, you'd think we'd be a chatty bunch. Must be a lot of people fighting through storms on their way home from work?

Peter, were you able to change your flights with Jet Blue to leave a day earlier?

Fought my way thru ice and snow this morning. This evening was just wind, wind and more wind.

Hi Bob, did you guys get any accumulation last night? We had a dusting only. The roads were slick and hazardous this AM. I had trouble with the van just going up Lafayette road. The drivers side sliding door is freezing more than it should. I'm thinking that I might end up coming up there. I haven't yet lubed the drivers window. Angela's Accord had the alternator light come on this morning. Guess that means another trip to Honda West.

Café DuMonde; Beignets! Yes. Coffee, eh!
Agree on the Margaritaville and HOB. Don't think I had a bad meal there.
New Orleans is one of the must see before you die places. Especially Mardi Gras.

Hi Bill,
Yes we did. About 3 inches. Roads were bad last night at 6. Lee wanted to go to the bookstore to check out some of our stops. Passed a nasty slideoff.

Don't know about your van, but my 91 accord window on the driver's side is always a pain in weather like this. :confused3

Hey Bill! Glad you made it home safe, sounds like you both have navigated treacherous roads! Yikes!

Yeah, New Awlins is one place I would love to visit again. Beinets, chickory coffee, jazz, hurricanes (the kind you drink!), old antibellum mansions, and the coolest cemetary tours! I think that is one of my favorite things to do in New Orleans - tour old cemetaries because they have such amazing histories and most have narrated tours that you can do from your car.

Oh yea. I forgot about the Hurricanes at Pat O'Brien's. Patout's is another good place.

'...pour me something strong,
make it a hurricane,
before I go insane!
It's only half past twelve but,
IT'S FIVE O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE'

coincidence that the Magic sails at 5:00? I don't think so!

Visited two doctors, settled a lawsuit, picked up Bahamian dog import paperwork for Cash and did laundry. Naptime..

Bob and Bill: Just can't imagine living in the snow and the weather you are having right now. How long do you expect it to last??? Must really be nice to get home each evening from work.

I'll try and send our warm weather to you right away - :sunny:

We get Cafe du Monde beignet mix here in Indy at the Marsh supermarket and also at the new Meijer store in Avon, Indiana. Love beignets, absolutely love them. We last went to the Cafe du Monde in Baton Rouge when we visited my uncle there last April. Got a big bag of mix compliments of the worker at the store. The bag they use is different than the mix they sell in boxes . I actually like the boxed mix and really like the store fried ones. As a matter of fact, we have our oil fryer on the kitchen countertop right now ready to go. I think I will fry up some tonight after I go back to the school for two of Kristens missing homework assignments.

Actually, I don't mind the weather. This is the kind of conditions that I like to go out to the hot tub and make the neighbors wonder about me! :earboy2:

Driving is not so bad. Just have to watch the other drivers more.

Always nice to get home.

Gee Bob, why do your neighbors wonder? :earseek: What aren't you telling us? :rotfl2:
