Well - I guess this will be my last post as I have officially offended others. I by no means meant that I thought only Christians would be on the cruise! I was just wondering what the majority of posters feelings were on the subject. I have seen many posts, than not, concerning giving gifts, processionals, Christmas cards, Mickey santas, etc. Forgive me for wondering.

Diana,
I looked at the doll you sold. She's amazing!!! Very beautiful.

We had two gals that rented an office from us, and they opened a doll shop. It was called Sweet Dream Babies. They sold dolls like that, and they also made dolls and held classes. Each of my kids (even Jared) have several dolls that they made themselves, even pouring the faces in molds, and everything.
The gals just couldn't make a living at it. But it was a really neat shop.

There's another store in town that sells some awesome dolls. The owner goes all over the world to buy her dolls. Her company is called TDI......I doubt if you've heard of it...but you never know.

TTYL,
Stacey

Stacey, I got out of artist doll collecting almost 10 years ago, I still have about a dozen of them though. They were way too expensive, and collecting vintage dolls is a lot more fun. I'll put a pic below of some of my babies. I guess I started doing this because my daughter stopped letting me dress her when she was 2.

Speaking of which, I now have to watch what I say. DD registered for the DIS yesterday, she is "Tinkdancer". Our family is now Dancind, TinksDad, and Tinkdancer! She will probably stick to the Teen board, but you never know.

These are Vogue Ginny dolls from 1950 and 1952. Not all of my dolls are Alice dolls, but I do like them.

Dog food question, I forgot to answer earlier.

We had a 70 pound lab for about 7 years til DS turned out pretty darned allergic (they thought it was severe asthma, turned out to be allergy. He's fine for short exposures, but give him a week or so, and he can't breathe!).

Anyway, he always got science diet. Yes we probably paid more than we needed to, but he liked it, and less came out the other end.

He got fed twice a day, am/pm and we used about a normal sized drinking glass (probably 12 fl. ounces). We kept his food in a cooler, in the pantry.

How does that old saying go - never talk about politics or religion when your trying to have fun. ;) These topics are guaranteed to turn up the heat.

I posted the question a few weeks ago about "Holiday Gifts" for the cast members. I don't think you have to be one religion or another to enjoy the season.

Cindy - take a deep breath and relax. I don't think anyone is "officially offended".

On another note. I've been waiting for Southwest to open up December for flight reservations. So what do they do - they only open up December thru the 14th. So the daily Southwest watch still continues.

I love those Alice dolls! Maybe you're the one I should ask about the doll we inherited from Jay's Grandma. I can't find any info on it anywhere. Still has some of the original old clothing, but not all. and part of him (I think it's a him) is peeling, so I know it's not worth anything. It just was interesting to us, and I wish we could have asked her about it, but she passed away before we knew about the doll. I'll have to go look at the name on it's neck, and e-mail you about him.

Oops, knew I was going to say something else.

Lynda (videogal), I definitely follow what you mean about the things that are available now, that weren't available, even within our lifetimes. While I'd enjoy the timeframe I mentioned, I know there would be many things I wouldn't be able to handle. I am always greatful to know that I am able to live my life as a strong woman working in a "historically" male dominated environment without the majority of people feeling like I'm weird, or not feminine.

Hi Ken! I couldn't stand the Southwest wait...so I gave up the ghost, and booked with America West. I'm using my free Southwest flights tomorrow to go visit my parents.
Southwest is great for my spur-of-the-moment Las Vegas trips, and for Disneyland....but this trip was too important...I was getting worried that I wouldn't get a flight and all that.
Paranoid? yes Control freak? yes. Guilty as charged!

DOG FOOD???? AM I SUPPOSED TO FEED THE DOG?
No wonder she's so skinny!

Hello everyone,
We are finally back from our trip to Texas. It was a good trip, spent a lot of time with family.
We hit Schlitterbahn, (the #1 waterpark in the US according to the travel channel) it was very crowded and not managed as well as WDW waterparks. We still managed to have fun.
We took Jason to celebrate his birthday at Dave and Busters. We had never been and everyone had a great time. Sure isn't cheap though. We have some up in this area, but not within an hours drive I think.
Lisa, let me know your times for Sat. I think we won't be able to come, but that can change.
We are also planning on attending the Hershey meet in Sept.
Are most staying Friday and Sat night?? I will look into hotel ressies. We have never been to that area, any reccomendations??
Glad to hear the ladies and teens had a great time in Vegas. Might have to add my daughter to the watch list, isn't real boy crazy yet, but a lot can change in 6 months. If Johnny Depp happens to be on our cruise we're in BIG trouble.

Well, I definately need to get back on the diet and exercise plan. Had to hit several Mexican places while in Texas! The margaritas didn't help either.

Lots of unpacking to do.
Have a great day!

I haven't checked Southwest this morning, thanks Ken. And dang! I have a credit on Southwest, so have to wait. Plus I think any other airline will take us pretty far west (Phoenix) or north (Denver) before we can go to Orlando. I like my Southwest nonstop flights!

Stacey, send me a pic of your doll too. I can probably tell you what it is, especially if it has something on the neck.

Welcome back, Tina. Sounds like a fun trip! Are you talking about staying before or after the cruise? We board on Saturday the 18th, and debark on Tuesday the 28th. Wouldn't want you to get there late, or leave early! I think there are folks getting there a couple of days early, not sure if anyone is planning to stay after. We are arriving very late on the 17th.

Hi Tina! Welcome home!!
What is it with Johnny Depp??? Jordan had to get a shot a while back, and she made me hold up a picture of him, to keep her mind off the shot!
I keep telling her he's OLD! He's only a couple years younger than I am......you'd think the very thought of that would have her running!

Cindy - please don't leave.

Part of getting to know each other is understanding that while we all have some things in common (love of Disney and cruising) that we also have differences too. I know you didn't mean to hurt or offend everyone.

When I first did the logo I had it as DIS Christmas Cruisers and it was pointed out to me that not everyone celebrates Christmas. I have since changed it to holiday cruisers and have been remembering that as I post.

As Ken pointed out - it is the holiday times and while we all celebrate different holidays we still celebrate (I think Ken said it better than I).

Welcome back Tina!

As for Hershey we are planning on Friday and Saturday night at Spring Hill Suites (the same place Gail is staying). I'm really looking forward to getting to meet everyone!

Yep-Cindy don't abandon us!!! I figured I would get bashed when I finally came out and said we were Mormon (but I figured some would have already figured that out since we are from Salt Lake City). I just have learned never to take anything personal and although my beliefs may be a little different than others, I try not to judge others lifestyles and beliefs. We have tried to teach our DD that we are accepting of everyone. Her Girl Scout troop meets at the local Greek Orthodox Church and that has been a blast getting to know those parents. When we had our first bbq it reminded me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It was so much fun!

But although we don't drink (well, lot's of diet coke for me), we are a fun loving, partying, family. And we do have FUN!!! We are pretty crazy and besides we can always be designated drivers! Do you think the captain will need me to steer the ship anytime during the cruise?

As for Christmas, we were talking about getting off the ship and going to visit with a couple of families that morning that live in St. Thomas (I think that is where we are at). My husband's cousin was on a cruise during Christmas last year and they got some names of a couple of families from our church headquarters and they took them a couple of books and took the children in the family some candy. And then they had their children tell the family they visited what they were most thankful for. I thought that was a good idea and that maybe our family would do something like that also.

Anyway, everyone is welcome here! I was thinking it would be fun to put together some Christmas Carol Songbooks and bring on the cruise and those of us that wanted to could get together and sing carols around the piano. I know hundreds of pages ago that we talked about someone being a great piano player and all that stuff.

Okay, back to work!

Linda

Holidays aboard the Magic.

This link from Dave's site shows the Navigator from last Christmas Eve 12/24/03 Navigator

Some of the things listed:

Holiday Sailaway

Hanukkah Service

Making Gingerbread Houses

Tree Lighting

"Twas the night before Christmas" with a crew choir

Midnight Mass

I could be wrong but I think Hanukkah will be over by the time we sail. My calendar shows it starting on the 8th. It does look like they try and celebrate many different things.

The site also has a navigator for Christmas Day for those interested.

Linda - your Christmas day sounds very nice. One question for you if you don't mind. You say you only drink diet coke, but I thought that was off limits to Mormans as well (due to the caffine). I'm only going off what I remember from my youth and being in love with Donny Osmond so please correct me if I'm wrong :D

I think the songbook sounds like a great idea. It was Karyn's DH who was the professional musician. Haven't heard from them in so long so not sure if they are still cruising with us or not.

Well lunch is over - back to work I go!

Well, officially it is coffee, tea, and alcohol. It is suggested that you don't drink soda pop with caffeine, but that's just what it is-a suggestion. If you are attending a church owned school (Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah for example) you can find Coke products at all the football games and such but they are only the caffeine free variety.

Many Mormons don't drink any caffeine at all, or try to limit their intake of it with soda pop.

As for our family, we drink coke, diet coke, dr. pepper, mtn. dew, and my DH likes Pepsi products, but he has adjusted to the Coke products since I do most of the shopping! Our DD has decided to try to limit her intake of soda pop (I think someone must have told her that soda pop and acne are connnected somehow), so she is into water right now!

Funny thing about Donny Osmond. Yep, I'm from that era too. The funny thing though is that when I "grew up" (if you could say that) I actually ended up working for the Osmonds for a number of years and one of my last production jobs I did was working with Donny for 12 weeks on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He still is the best looking Osmond around!

Linda

A number of years ago when I was in the Coast Guard, one of my buddies was from Utah and was Mormon. He didn't drink or eat anything with caffine. One night, he came back from a church group meeting and was just wired to the max. We couldn't figure out why he was so hyper. He couldn't figure it out either, until he told us that he had a headache and someone gave him some aspirin. The aspirin had caffine in it.

His nicname was "Mad Dog". Of course we gave him that name because it was the total opposite of what he was like. One day, he came in and announced that he didn't want to be called Mad Dog anymore. When we asked why, he said he didn't like what it spelled backwards.

He was a real nice guy and one of the people that I trusted my life with when we were out in rescue boats.

The world is full of people - all with their own ideas of how life should be lived. The world would be a better place if we all could be more tolerant of those other ideas. (That's my big thought for the day - I'm exhausted now).

P.S. - If a passenger gets to drive the Magic, you're going to have to fight me for it.

Ken
