:flower1: Good Morning Cruisers! :flower1:

Happy Thursday everyone!

Stacey- I'm here - just not too much to say. Trying to be good on my diet and exercise but the scale is going the wrong way! Oh well I shouldn't be reading it every day. :D

As for your question - I would have liked to be a teenager in the 50's (instead of a baby in the late 50's) and living in Southern California. I think it was a much more innocent time and I would have loved to have visited Disneyland in the early years. I didn't get there until 1979 and so much had changed.

Have a great day everyone!

Won't be around much today to check in. I'm taking the kids to a place called "The Wilds." It's a safari in Ohio! Supposedly it's really cool....it's actually like you were in Africa! With a 2 hour drive each way it better be REALLY great!

I've got a question for all of you with dogs.....what dog food do you feed your dog(s) and why? My goodness there are so many choices. I actually think we are putting more effort into finding the perfect dog food than we did to find the perfect baby food!!! Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated! :)

Boy, the historic question is a hard one for me. I'm a big reader, and whatever period I'm reading about is the one I'd like to be in! But overall, I think I would have liked to live when they were opening up the western frontier (i.e. post Civil War). I really liked the book (and mini-series) Centennial, and I REALLY like Colorado. So I think I should have been born around 1872 or so, just far enough after the Civil War that things were getting back to normal, and moved out west with a wagon train in the early 1880s. Hey, that's about the time of Little House on the Prarie too? I guess I always had a secret desire to be Laura Ingalls!

So far, we don't have to put my DD's face on a wanted poster. She's not really interested in boys yet. They do some giggling, but that's about it. But with all the growing up she's done in the last 6 months, by the time we cruise, I'm probably going to change my mind!!!

DS and the babysitter are going up to the Air and Space Museum today. DD doesn't really enjoy that one, so DS picked it while she was gone.

And Mary, hang in there on the scale. Put it away for the next week or so, and just keep enjoying the adrenaline buzz from exercise.

Happy Thursday to all.

Lisa - thanks for the encouragement.

LeiLani - would your mom like to recieve get well cards? I've seen this done on the community board. If she would e-mail me her address and I'll be happy to send some to her (spaced out of course). I'm sure others might as well.

We all know how much getting mail (that isn't bills) can brighten a day - especially for someone going through something like this.

Let me know.

Also if you think she would like this please tell us a little about her. Name, what she likes (flowers, dogs, etc.). Is she religious (meaning would a religious card inspire her or not). You know anything that can help us make it more personal for her.

If you think she would find the whole thing wierd and crazy no problem. Just trying to think of something that will help lift her spirits after you go home.

Mary, great idea on the get well card. I'd be happy to send one off. My DD truly enjoyed getting them when she was sick this year.

Hello Everyone -
Yes, we are still planning on joining you at the Adventurer's Club.
Okay, I've been wondering about something. Don't want anyone to be offended. I was wondering if everyone here is a Christian (meaning celebrates Christmas). We are beginning to wonder how DCL will handle this on the cruise. We know that in the parks, Christmas is a huge deal; secretly hoping it's the same on the cruise.

Well, I can tell you that (gasp) I was a teenager in the '50's in Pasadena, California and talk about bad press...Seems like every time I turned around people were saying what horrible things the teenagers were doing, saying, thinking...that stupid music, those horrible beatnicks with no clothing sense, surfers and their jelly roll hair-dos, or the processed hair and head scarves for the guys "across town". THE BOMB, and COMMIES under every bed....Without investigative reporting who else was there to pick on? Paranoia everywhere, racial (and other) prejudice that made some of my playmates feel ill-at-ease at my house. No refuge for kids in bad situations; such opressive social control over marriage, divorce, pregnancy, women... Birth control?...NEVER heard of it! Peace in a pressure cooker....No wonder the changes. Watts burning....Children growing into an age of protest...Now, THAT was interesting, watching the adults REALLY get excited about teens then.....
but then, you saw all that....poor kid. Nobody hardly ever talks about why things got crazy.....
All I wanted to do when I was in high scool was get a horse and ride from S. California to Yellowstone Park, get good grades in Latin, and play in the band and orchestra....such a good girl...
Whew!
maybe I'd better report a touch of hostility as a side-effect of these drugs I'm testing...??

OK, I'll be good.....sorry, got carried away....

But the question was:

Okay-I am laughing so hard this morning reading the posts from last night and earlier today. You guys are so funny. Anyway, if someone can put together that "MOST WANTED" poster and email it to me before the cruise as an attachment, I can make color copies here at work really cheap, and I figure it will be worth the investment!

And Lynda, I am so glad Cash can participate in this also. I'll keep all of Jamie's dirty laundry separate and that way when we need to call in Cash he will be ready to pounce on our wayward child!!!! (or should I say teenager!)

Oh, we are an Iams Dog Food family, less mess on the pooper scooper!

Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Well I'm Catholic, but remember that not everyone else who is going celebrates the same as we do. That's why I've been trying to call this the Holiday cruise.

For me there are two different parts of Christmas. The first and most important to me personally is to celebrate the spiritual holiday. The second is the secular version with Santa etc.

There are many other religions out there that don't celebrate Christmas. This is true of both cruisers and crew members.

I think the ship will be decorated much like the parks with a huge tree and all the trimmings. I hear that Mickey and Minnie have holiday apparel as well.

I have heard that on past cruises they have offered a Midnight Mass as well. Hope that answers your question.

Personally I've always enjoyed learning about others beliefs and celebrations. Maybe that would be another good topic to get to know each other. What do the holidays mean to you. What celebrations do you and your families partake of?

Hi Mary -
Thanks for the reply - as I stated earlier; I didn't want to offend anyone - one of my main reasons for asking. We too, celebrate much the same as you, realizing the true meaning of Christmas as well as the "fun" aspect (if you will). I surely didn't mean to imply that I wanted others to feel out of place. As usual, I was just being curious.

Hi everyone. Happy Thursday.

As for the question that you raised Cindy in regards to everyone on this website being Christian???????? The answer is no. I am not Christian and there are others on this website as well that post that are not Christian??? Why would it even cross your mind that we are all Christian on this website??????? I am sure this boat is filled with all religions at the time of the cruise. I am sure that they will spruce up the ship just as they do the parks. Why not ask others who have traveled on DC at this time what they do on the ship rather than ask about someones religion?????

For me the answer is pretty easy...
After the CAT scan was invented.
After it was ok for women to work outside the home without guilt.
After the Viet Nam War was ended
After a brain patch for post-stroke therapy was developed...
After, after, after

or
later.

Good Morning! :sunny:
Good idea about the get well cards, Mary. Even though my mom is leery of my internet friends, I think even SHE would enjoy getting those cards.....so maybe LeiLani's mom would, too.

Linda....don't you think if Paul modeled his bikini he could get first place??!!

And our other Lynda.....okay, so there's a 50's myth...am I getting that right??? So when would you have liked to live?

Lisa, I liked yours!!!

BTW, Mary....always thinking Disney...that's great!!

Cindy, I have only been at Disneyland at Christmas, but from what everyone has said, the ship is decorated to the hilt, Mrs. Claus reads stories, there's Santa Goofy....so I'm guessing that they are celebrating basically a Christian Christmas. Does anyone know if there is a church service anywhere? But that does bring up an idea....if anyone wants to have a prayer meeting or small service on Christmas Eve, I bet it could be worked out.
I don't know what anyone else's affliation is, but my family are non-denominational Christians.

Well, today I have to pack...I've put it off long enough. I guess we could just fly to mom's empty handed, and buy what we need?? Right. At least I don't have to pack all the things I normally do, shampoo, toothpaste, every kind of preventive medicine under the sun, my water heater......
That's another item for my packing ideas. I have a small heating coil that plugs in and heats up a cup of water in seconds. I make a cup of coffee or tea (and even hot chocolate) while waiting for room service (or DH) to bring me the real thing. I take the coffee singles, and packets of hot chocolate.

ANyway.....off I go. Have a great day everyone! I'm sure I'll be checking in often!

Stacey

I'm sorry, Gail. We do know that there is a huge mix of culture and religion. I don't think Cindy meant any harm, and I guess I was just answering her honestly.
In all fairness, I do think Disney should keep in mind there is a great mix. It is a "Small World' after all!

Pounce he can do!

Been through lots of different dog foods, Cash likes them all...Finally settled on Purina....not the best, not sawdust...Once in a while he gets IAMS rice/lamb....

Probably because of the signature lines on some posts.... Gave me a pause, myself....

I'm pretty sure that DCL will do something similar to what Celebrity did last year when we cruised. They decorated for several Holidays, and had different services for all the different religions on board. Of course, there was the option not to participate. With the big tree, Christmas will probably hit you in the face when you walk in, but I would imagine that folks are used to that. I think I'm guilty of having "Christmas cruise" on my countdown, not sure, but that's what it is for us. It's always been a big deal in my family, because of my Mom. She's gone now, and DCL is probably the only place that will come close to making as big a deal out of it!

Anyway, take a deep breath everyone.

Oh yeah, dog food. We don't have a dog, but have been round and round with our cat, who seems to have food allergies. We settled on a brand "Precise", that we get from our nearby organic foods store. They make dog food too. It's much higher in protein than other brands. After all, dogs and cats aren't vegetarians. It's expensive, but he truly eats about half as much of it as he did other brands, and he's doing better.

Sorry Stacey, other eras don't appeal to me. You know, women have gotten a pretty raw deal until recently (even the Southern belles). I like having grown up in the 60s, and I'm amazed at the current thinking of "never criticize your President". When I was in college (and I went early!), we had the end of Viet Nam, and then Nixon. Interesting times.

Edited to add: I do LOVE the fashions of some of those earlier eras, though! Since I've added vintage clothing to my Ebay repertoire, I'm having so much fun! Can't wear any of them though, women were either really and truly tiny, or they wore amazing undergarments. The shoes are awesome too, but can't wear those either (4" heels, anyone?). I do have a couple of vintage purses in my wardrobe though!
