20040131 ~ Cruising Jan 31 2004 Western Who's with us?

Karyn,
I didn't mean to jinx your house sale, I wish you all the best and hope it goes quick and well!
As for Capt. Marvin's, I hope I can convince my family members that they can't be hurt by stingrays so they will go with me, but if not, then I will have all the fun:hyper: Are any of you going with me? The whole day thing sounds like a blast! I have become an addicted snorkeler since our first cruise, now I do it whenever I'm near water, big or small::yes::
ttfn, Renae

Hi Kim! I can't believe we're closing in on Christmas, where did the last two months go? Oh, that's right, I was stuck not posting and working on the house.

Renae, I totally with you on the snorkeling thing, one of my most favorite things to do. I'll have to talk to my crew here about 1/2 or full day w/ Capt Marvins. We loved it so much. We did the fury Catamaran Snorkel at Key West last time. It was really good snorkeling, but the surge was very strong and exhausting. Randy hated it. Jill had fun because she was following a barracuda and a shark around for awhile.

Gary are you signed up for the Jeep tour yet? I think this is the Jeep tour that some were talking about going on earlier this year - that they had had a great time and a much smaller crowd. http://gocozumel.com/wild-tours-atv/

Come on Annie, we can do it! I really want to try parasailing - our Randys can stand on the ground and take pictures!

Karyn

"So that's it, then? That's the secret grand adventure of the infamous Jack Sparrow? You spent three days lying on a beach drinking rum?"
"Welcome to the Caribbean, love!"

Hi Karyn -- congrats on the house sale! I didn't know you could close on Christmas Day! I'll bet that is a relief that you have sold it. Will you move to Seattle before the cruise? Good luck and I hope everything goes smoothly.

Gary, I have decided on two Caribbean blue adult size hats. I will be happy to send you a check if you want to pm me your address and the total owed. Thanks again for doing the hats! I think it's a great idea. ::yes::

HADD everyone!

LOL, Kim, I didn't say we were closing on Christmas, I said it's getting so close to Christmas - I can't believe how fast the time has gone. We do have an offer yesterday, But Randy came in so late last night we will counter first thing today. So maybe you weren't so far off. We actually could close during the cruise if we can work this out! Tho we will ask for about a week later. Which means I will have to have the house packed and ready to go before we leave.

Renae, let me know which Capt Marvin's you want to take.

Does anybody know the number you call for excursions? I didn't get a brochure this time - weird cause I've been paid in full for a long time.

Cheers, everybody!

Karyn

pirate: You seem somewhat familiar, have I threatened you before? pirate:

Hi, we'll be joining everyone as well on this cruise, paying the full balance today! Our group is myself (Monique - 36), my husband Glenn, 38, Kelsey 11, and Tyler 9, who will actually be 10 3 days before we leave (1/28). We'll be celebrating my 37th on board, on the last night out, 2/6. =) Sorta hoping to figure out how to get Palo reservations for that night, you only turn 37 once right? ;) But I'll worry about that later...

First cruise for DS, DH and DD...however I grew up on cruise ships, my parents met on one and my father and his best friend ran the photographic consessions for all the big lines - Holland America, Royal Carribbean, etc. We used to go to NYC every weekend to help stock up on all the photographic needs, and my brother and I would explore the ship, crew and guest areas alike...so I'm pretty excited. First time I'll be sailing with a room bigger than a closet, and a porthole to boot!!

A little worried because we got the 2nd to last available cat. 9, and it's #2506 - a supposedly "noisy" room?? I'm thinking positive though...

So...hi everyone! :wave2:

Hi Monique! Glad to have you with us. As you can probably tell, we're a huge group and have had a wonderful time getting to know each other though this thread. So join right in! Are you going to get a Bday cake for Tyler on the first night out? As far as your 37th birthday, yes, you usually only get one of those, but as far as I can tell, you can have as many 39th birthdays as you want. I, myself, will be celebrating my 12th 39th birthday on the cruise! I'd love to hear more about growing up on cruise ships. I was on a transatlantic crossing (probably before you were born) when I was a kid, Barcelona to NYC (we were traveling from Afghanistan to California and that was the only way to get our car across with us). That was back in the era of class separation. I remember that 1st class passengers were on their own decks that those of us in 2nd and 3rd couldn't get to. I think we did sneak up there to trick or treat on Halloween.

ACK! S*** Advisory here. I hate winter and you-know-what is a four letter word in this house. Did you know that in Persian the word for snow is "barf" - seems appropriate somehow.

Karyn

Now, serious for just a minute. I apologize if I offended anyone with my dry humor. All of my comments have been meant as humor and not to offend ANY of my new friends. If I did, I am truly sorry. Now, back to cruise stuff, okay?

Have a great day!

I didn't even think of that!! What a great idea, he's always complaining because he has a winter birthday, so it can't be quite as special/fun here in New England as his sister's July birthday, which is always outdoors and with blowup rentals like bounce houses and water slides...a special cake would make his night! Thanks for the thought!!

LOL! I figure that age is a number we assign to ourselves...mother nature has no idea about "years", we put that burden on ourselves, so pfft to it, I'm not going to let it bother me! You don't stop playing because you get old - you get old because you stop playing, and I don't think anyone here has to worry about that!

Well, my experiences were more limited to growing up with crew members coming and going from our house in Mass, and going to the ships every single weekend as I said, to help dad restock and fix photographic equipment and such. We had free roam of the ship while in dock, and the crew were always watching out for my brother and I. We went on one cruise, to Bermuda, on the SS Statendam (Holland America Line) - because Dad had to train a new photog. - so it was a working vacation for him! And when people would order all those reprints and such...we did all that out of the house, I have stuffed more envelopes and put together more photo albums than I ever wanted to! *grin* Of course because of the crew associations while on the cruise, my brother and I never got away with anything fun...but it did help when I sleepwalked, they knew who I was and brought me right back to my cabin! We had a TINY room - inside stateroom with bunk beds, and a toilet...SO dark...this should be a completely different experience. My brother actually cruised as a photographer after high school - the Alaska run on the "Love Boat" for 6 months till he had enough - and the photographers had it easy in comparison to most crew then, because they were "commissioned" - but even so, let me tell you, the STORIES he shared! *grin* Let's just say my kids won't be doing the crew thing anytime soon... ;)

Anyone who's done this before w/kids who are "tweens" like mine - does it become a "neighborhood" atmosphere for them? I'm hoping that they will find some friends their own age and bond with them, leaving hubby and I to some time to just relax and enjoy the food and wine...which should be fun, as hubby is a professional chef and looking forward to having someone cook for HIM for once! My son is very outgoing and will seek out friends without issues...my daughter is a little quieter, but always seems to be very "in demand" as a friend once she opens up.

http://trulson4.tripod.com/photos.html - some pics from our last Disney trip to OKW...slightly old, but it'll introduce the family to you! :)

Thanks for the welcome aboard, all! Looks like we're the "poor relations" down on deck 2, huh... *wink*

Welcome Monique and family! I can't believe how many of us there will be!!!

Karyn -- :rotfl: I can't believe I missed the 'in' in the sentence. How much a two letter word changes the meaning of a sentence!! I wasn't quite awake either, so that didn't help to my confusion!! Well GOOD luck with the counter-offer! I can't believe that we are closing IN on Christmas either. I think this year been the fastest one for me so far! Unfortunately, I understand they just keep going faster and faster!

Well I feel away now and I am OH SO excited. S*** is coming our way too and I am just thinking about 8 weeks from now!!!

:jumping1:

Monique, just call your travel agent or DCL and request a cake on the first night for Tyler. It will be served at the end of your dinner, after dessert. I'm celebrating my 50th that night (only a month late). Actually we have a lot of birthdays in this group. Gary's still celebrating his September birthday. You could also contact A Perfect Gift and have a basket waiting for him, or decorations. Oh, nice pictures. And, I'm with you on the age issue, this one, however is a little harder to take than any of the preceeding ones!

Kim, yup, one preposition and it changes the meaning of everything.

We just did a second counter on the house, but will accept what they come back with regardless. It's not as good as we would like, but it will be done.

Dean, good job!

My travel agent is my MIL, so that part is easy, I'll ask her now!! Thanks!

Dean, a fine job, as usual!!!::yes::

Karyn, Yes I'm at this very moment still celebrating my 50th birthday! The celebration will not end until I get to share it with my friends on the Magic.:grouphug: Good luck with the house! We will have to book the Jeep Safari soon.

Kim, S***? We don't need no stinkin' S***!!!!:cool2:

Monique, don't forget about the DVC reception on the Magic on Sunday!!! It's a good time!:hyper:
I used Perfect Gift for a Valentine's Day basket for Gail on our last cruise and they did a WONDERFUL job. Shirley and her crew are the best!

HADD!!! :wave2:

Hi Everyone -

Welcome Monique and family! You will love the Magic... This will be our second cruise on DCL and we are all hooked... My daughter (10) had such a great time last year and made some lasting friendships... we are all looking forward to meeting everyone and making new friendships...

Thanks Dean for being such a great keeper of the list! It sounds like we will have a great group of people onboard!

Karyn and Gary and others - if you will go parasailing, then maybe I will consider giving it a try... you first, and I will be right behind you, I promise!!:wave2:

HADD!!

Ann

DW (annie12345) I don't know who you are trying to convince about the parasailing. You are alreadt booked! DH (GOOFYABOUTMICKEY) aaarrrrgggghhhhhpirate:

Any thoughts on when the documents should show up -

- directly from DCL?
- Via Travel Agent?

Hey, Cap-

We booked thru a TA and they told us to expect documents to be sent from them two weeks prior to departure date. Also said that DCL sends stuff to them, so depending on when they get them it might even be closer than that. DW and I will go nuts debating when we think they will actually arrive. :happy1:

Dean

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Thanks. I'll have to look for other arrangements, as we'll be out of the Michigan winter well before the cruise. It will be cutting it too tight on document delivery.

Cap,
I don't know if it is that way from all of the TA's. We used Expedia.com since that is who I use for my office staff and that is what they told us. I would assume that if you didn't use a TA it would be coming directly from DCL and would arrive sooner.
