What happened with the christmas tree pass on from dvc member to dvc member;) how did it work out;) with all the talk about making ressies for this christmas, it just reminded me about how thoughtful one dvc member was a to pass on a christmas tree , and so on and so on...........;)

if it worked out we should get the list going again for this christmas:sunny:

Hi _ I have it at home safe and sound. I received it on Christmas Day from CarolA. It had pretty red and green icicle type lights. I shipped it home after New Years and we usually go every Thanksgiving.....so as we get closer I will post and we can start. I took regular pictures of it, not digital so can't post them.
It was so nice of everyone who took care of the tree during the month and passed it on. I will keep it safe and sound until next year.

...........Thanks for shipping it back.:D

Niagara2 that was so nice of you to ship the tree back home, im sorry if my post sound like who had the tree, i was wondering how the tree worked out transfering it from member to member and how it worked out with the tree in the room, was there enough room for it in a 2 bedroom, if you pull out the couch?

thanks:sunny:

Funny you shipped the tree on home. I am the original tree giver:wave: We just finished booking for December 5th through 12th at Boardwalk villas 2004. I can not wait to start this all over. I think It would be fun to each add somthing to the tree as it is passed on. Did you end up with the patio lights as well. It is so funny to see a $20 dollar total investment enjoyed by so many people. ::yes::

The tree is pretty small so there was no problem in displaying it. We put it on the bar area by the dining table in our OKW villa. It was a lot of fun.

I gave the Patio lights to the bell service staff with the tree for Dorreen, but.... who knows.

Thanks!

I was the second person to enjoy the tree. Twinmomplus2 passed it onto me and we enjoyed it while we stayed in our studio at the VWL.

When the tree hadn't arrived by the time we left for dinner the day that we checked in we figured it went astray and we weren't going to get it. We thought of going to Walmart near the resort and pick up a tree because we knew so many other people were counting on us passing a tree along. When we got back from dinner the tree was in our room, and it was just like Santa stopped by while we were out!

We placed the tree in the corner of our room, and put it in the window at night so people who passed could see it. We also draped the string of colored lights around the headboard of our bed because we were on the first floor and didn't have a balcony railing. I then passed it on to Barbara, who was also staying at VWL. When she checked out she was going to drive it over to Carol who then passed it onto Niagara2 who then shipped it home. What a fun new tradition!

Thanks again to Twinmomplus2 who started it all.

:wizard: :wizard: Now that is magical:wizard: :wizard:

that is the info i was looking for: how wonderful to hear these magical stories.

put me on the list, i will be at the wlv for dec.23-26, and i would pass it on before we go over to the bcv dec.26.:sunny:

Right, it was a fun thing to do! We were sooo pleased to find that the tree and extra lights were waiting for us in the room. It was set up on the coffee table that was pushed by the sliding door, so it could be seen by all who passed. We had a studio, and it was just perfect.

Thank you twinmomplus2 and donald, and all the rest. Like the Wilderness Lodge Mystery Box, perhaps we can take something, or leave something as the tree passes in our life.

Bobbi:D

I'd be interested in the tree next year, if it works out with everyone's schedule.

Would make my 6 year old DD very excited....

Let me know as we get closer,

Wow, what a great thing to do. For those of you familiar with the Hale Koa Hotel on Oahu, they have several Christmas trees on display during the holiday season that are filled with ornaments from families all over the world that have stayed at the hotel. Some are store-bought, others homemade, but most of them have the name of the family and what city/state/country they are from. It sounds like the "DVC" tree might be a wee bit small to start anything so elaborate, but maybe each of the resorts could provide a tree for DVC Members to contribute a special ornament when they "come home for the holidays".

Thanks again to everyone involved this year that passed the tree on. I will know next month if we are going for Thanksgiving and will then bring the tree with us.
We did receive the tree, stands of mini lights for the patio, and two boxes of novelty snowman lights. We were lit up like Osborn Lights!
I had brought a holiday tablecloth so I covered up a suitcase with it and placed tree between sofa and chair. We also brought an animated Mickey Tree Topper. It was funny to watch an undecorated tree become decorated in 10 days with Disney stuff!
We added Mickey and Minnie Holiday Beanies to the base, and then the silver "sparklers" from the Rainforest Volcano's. The kids did crafts in community hall and they made it to the tree and we had seashell garland that came from a Hawaian Store at Belz Outlet. They gave us 6 shell necklaces while in the store.
The shipping was about the price of the tree but now it has memories! We looked in Walmart when we first got there and it was all picked over and only large trees. This tree was perfect.
Again, thank you and I will hold onto it for all of you for next year.
The ornament idea is very nice. We should put alittle journal with it and write a paragraph on dates and where we are from and what we did while the tree was in our possesion and then pass it on!

We'll be checking in at BWV next Dec 8th and out the 17th and would be interested in a 'tree exchange' if there will be one going on.

Since we go in early Dec., this is one of the things I'd like to store from year to year (from previous thread about DVC possibly offering member storage).

What a grand tradition and a true symbol of the sense of family that many seem to have developed through their DVC memberships! (First year is cutting edge stuff; second year + is long standing tradition.) I can't wait to be a part of the family -- now where in the mail system is that information package?

Neil

One of you shoudl send a picture of the tree and send it to DVc for the newsletter!

This was such a nice thread to read! It makes me want to go to WDW during the holiday season just to be part of the sharing! Nice job everyone! How did the tree get from person to person?

The Story of the DIS Family Christmas Tree (from my point of view)

During November, someone posted a thread asking how people decorate their Home Away From Home for the Holidays. Twinmomplus2 answered the thread and mentioned the tree. She also said that she was checking out on Dec 12 and would pass the tree on to anyone checking in that day. I contacted her and told her that I was checking in on the 12th and would love the tree. I then posted a new thread offering to pass the tree on to the first person who contacted me that was checking in on the 19th, the day that I was checking out. MANY people contacted me, but the first person to contact me was bobbiwoz, but she only needed the tree until the 21st, which was the day she was checking out. In the thread where I offered to pass the tree on to someone checking in on the 19th, coincidently Carol mentioned that she would like the tree but was checking in on the 21st. I contacted her and told her that today was her lucky day because the tree was available again on the 21st. She was happy to hear this. She was checking out on the 25th and started a new thread offering the tree to anyone who wanted the tree on Christmas. Niagara2 contacted her and enjoyed the tree until she sent it home where it is today.

Twinmomplus2 had the hotel ship the tree from AKL to VWL. It was waiting in my room when I got back from dinner the night that we checked in. It was kind of banged up from being shipped, but a few minutes of branch straigheting and it was festive again! Bobbiwoz was also staying in the VWL so on check out day I just walked the tree to the front desk and asked that they deliver it to her room when she checked in. I believe after she checked out she drove it over to OKW where Carol was staying. I am not sure how Carol delivered it to Niagara2.

That's the story from my point of view. Anyone else want to share their story?

Idea? Next year everyone who uses it could buy an ornmanet for it perosnalized with their names from the christmas store from either MK or DTD. Wonder how many years you could keep it going?

lenshanem

that was mentioned on the first page of this post, but from what i understand the tree is not that big, to add all the ornaments.
i was kinda thinking maybe i bring a tree and we have can several tree exchange, but i dont arrive until dec. 23, but i would pass it on to someone on the 26. i will have to figure something out, how to get it down there early so alot of people can enjoy it,
hmmm im going easter, but that is way to early for a christmas tree, lol lol

We just made our reservations for VWL for Nov. 21-27. I would love to contribute either an initial tree, lights, or just be part of the delivery process. I think the idea of several trees (maybe one at each resort?) is a GREAT idea. I would volunteer to bring one for VWL, as my mother passed away in July, and I happen to have a 3 ft. tree with all the trimmings in my basement.

Does this sound like a good idea?

PS. That's only 290 days until we leave again.
