2000 Mypoints-Amtrak Bonus Mail

For those of you who got the Mypoints Amtrak Bonus Mail awarding 2000 miles for making an Amtrak booking, there is a relatively cheap way to get these points.

Book a one way trip from Berkely CA (station BKY) to a station in Oakland (OKJ) for some time in December, and use discount code H234 (35% discount for online booking). Pick an off peak time. The cost comes out to be $2.60 for the 2000 points, a pretty good deal. I got instant confirmation.

The 2000 points was in my account today. I too had deleted this E-mail and then when alerted to the possibility of booking a cheap fare went to my trash bin where (lucky for me) it still was.

So we just book the ticket? What if someone needs a seat on the train that day? It seems like a wonderful way to get 2000 points but I wonder if it's ok?
