I called to make a reservation and was told the gift card is a merchandise only card, you can't use it on food. I was interested in it because I'm staying for a week before my college program starts and this would have taken care of my food for a week, but when I found out it was merch only I cancelled and decided to stay at the Mariott under my friend's employee discount.

Plus I'm still angry about PI, so it makes me feel better that I give my 800 dollars to an off property hotel since Disney obviously is not interested in my age group having something to do on property at night.

edit: I was told this by a Disney cast member at the reservation center, so perhaps Kevin can clarify?

Hmm, I was planning to take advantage of the $500 gift card offer I got emailed... but I wont if I can't use it for food. The fine print says that they can't be used to buy Disney dollars or gift cards, but they also state "other restrictions may apply".
I'm going to call on Thursday to find out what I can, but hopefully we can get some confirmation from the Dreams staff.

If they give you $200, you should be able to spend it as you please...

Something smells fishy...

Call back and try again. Make sure they know you're talking about the gift card on the 4/3 package and not thinking about the card they are giving as part of the "come on your birthday" promo.

Good point. Ask three cast members the same question, you most likely will get three different answers. (Except: When is the 3 o'clock parade?)

interesting...I guess she was wrong?

I experience a lot of the "ask multiple CMs" problem when I was at WDW in June. You couldn't get a correct answer to save your life.

I think I read somewhere that the $200 gift card cannot be used for food, but only for merchandise. I'll try to remember where I read that and post the info.

Which is just sad.

Yes, it is. It got to the point where if I needed transportation information or park hours information, I would ask multiple CMs just because I never trusted just one person. One bus driver actually gave the wrong EMH information and it was printed in a brochure! I'm gonna make it my personal mission to make sure I know what's going on at all the parks every single day.

Here is the info we were all sent when the special came out
So the Gift Card (like Disney dollars) can be used for dining, tips, merchandise etc... now the fun card that you would get for your birthday can not be used for dining, only merchandise.

You may use the Birthday Fun Card only towards the purchase of merchandise items at participating merchandise locations owned and operated by the owners of the Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resorts

Yes you can use the $200 GC for dining it's the birthday fun card you must use for merchandise.
