20 minutes to change planes in Milwaukee

I was looking at some flights on Midwest Airlines from MSP to MCO with a plane change in MKE. The time the flight frmo MSP would land is 7:05 and the departure of the connecting flight is 7:25. Is this do-able. That seems like a very short amount of time to change planes and get our luggage on the new flight.

Any thoughts?

Hello again Dudspud! Fellow Minnesota here by way of Maplewood. But, born and raised in Milwaukee (Go Packers). I love Midwest express! I used to fly them all the time before moving to MSP.

If you get there on time you will have more than enough time to change plans. Once you get to MKE you don't have to go through security. The gates are side by side and Midwest should transfer your luggage for you. Just get off of your first flight and walk to you new gate and check in.

The only thing to worry about with plane change that fast is a delay in your first flight.

Does anyone know if Midwest express still serves those delicious chocolate chip cookies? Is the whole plane still first class with the huge leather seats? The good ole' days of Midwest express!

I disagree. They try to close the door about 10 mins. before departure. That doesn't give you a lot of time to get to the new gate and your luggage on the plane unless they are right next to each other.

I'm real wary of layovers of less than 1.5 hours what with flight delays and all. Even if you make it, will your baggage?

I agree with lsteadman- if the planes are on-time (and Midwest usually is), there would be no problem changing planes in 20 minutes (or 5 for that matter). The electronic luggage tagging makes it possible for luggage to be transferred pretty easily too. If you have never been to the Midwest Airlines portion of Mitchell Field in Milwaukee--the gates are literally steps from each other (you won't walk more than 50 feet to change planes), and they will hold a connecting flight in most cases. It would really depend on when you are flying, I guess, but I have flown through MKE at least 6 times this year on Midwest and almost always have less than 30 minutes for layover, not one problem yet. Is 20 minutes a legal connection time? Isn't there some minimum amount of time that you must have between flights (like 45 minutes?) in order for the connecting flight to be ticketed to you?? Thought that was the case at one time...

Every airline defines their own "legal" connections times. They will vary from airport to airport. If an airline publishes a trip with a 20 minute connection, then *generally* it is a connection the airline feels is legal. But legal and doable are not always the same.

Is it possible that this is actually not a connection per se, but rather a stop with a change of flight number and the same plane goes on? I have had that happen with such tight connections (usually they keep the same flight number, but I have had cases where the flight number changed but the plane did not).

I am assuming this is the 725am flight out of MKE. If its the orginating flight from MN you won't have problems. Midwest is good about making connections on there own fllights. Worse case is you would get the 230pm flight out if you miss. Call midwest and see what they say.

It is the morning flight that arrives at MKE at 705 from MSP. There is a change of planes since the one from MSP is a 32 seat jet. The larger flight leaves at 7:25.

I live in WI and have been to Milwaukee Airport MANY times- its not a large airport when you get there, so I dont see you needing any more time than you have.

If so my brother is president of the airlines!!!

He is also in charge of the super saver fares to MCO!!!!

He was also featured in a business magazine for being one of a few (cant remeber the number) of people under 40 that are presidents of a company!!!

Midwest Express ROCKS! We are flying them next Saturday :jumping4: and we will have a 20 minute connection and I am not at all worried. That airport is so compact we could probably "jump" onto the other plane
