A friend at work has asked for advice. Her daughter will be 2 years 11 months old next March. Her daughter is almost potty trained and she expects that she will be fully trained by March. She would like her to be in the kids clubs, and when making reservations for March they said that it might be an option. Should she delay her trip one month until her daughter is three to be sure her daughter will be in the club instead of the nursery?

My kids are much older so I haven't had experience in this area. Please advise. Thanks.

If it's easy for her to delay by one month then sure, have her do that. They generally WILL let FULLY potty-trained 2 years and 11 months old kids into the programming, but if she wants to be sure she should just wait until the child is officially 3. The key is she needs to be FULLY potty-trained (no matter what her age) and not in pull-ups, they don't allow the kids into the clubs in pull-ups.

Good luck to your friend! :)

My advice is for your friend to cruise right BEFORE her daughter turns 3. Keep in mind that if she is under 3 (even at 2-years 364-days) she pays only the infant rate. Once she turns 3, it could be hundreds of dollars more! If she is within 1-month of turning 3 AND is fully potty trained and able to re-dress herself, she can fully participate in the kids clubs.

We will cruise 1 day before my DD turns 3. We paid the infant rate for her and have been assured that she can be in the kids clubs. . .if we can get the potty training down pat!

We had the same thing happen to us. Our twins turned 3 the day after we set sail. We only had to pay infant rates, but they were able to participate in the clubs. Saved us about $700. Even though they were potty trained, we were still nervous about accidents-turning 3 doesn't make them magically dissapear. We used pull ups during the day and put them in regular underwear when they went to the clubs. DS didn't like the club-they really had never been away from us before, but DD enjoyed it. We never left her there more than 1-2 hours at a time. One thing I found out on our last cruise-they frequently make the little ones go to the bathroom, so less chance for accidents. Tell her to make sure her DD can do EVERYTHING by herself, including wiping, pulling up her clothes and snapping or buttoning. The CM cannot help in any way and I saw quite a few little boys (men-go figure) coming out of the bathroom in the club with their pants around their ankles!!! Also, when they get on board, have your friend show her DD how to use the faucets. As, I said the CM cannot come into the bathrooms and I saw a lot of little ones looking puzzled at the sinks because they are the automatic kind that come on when you put your hands underneath.

And be sure to flush the toilet a couple times while you are with your child. Then let your child flush it too. Seems silly --- but the super flush toilets can be quite scary to little one's.

Tay and Evie's Mom-

Thanks so much for posting about the kids being able to do everything by themselves!!! I wouldn't have thought of that and I wouldn't want my DD in a position where she couldn't get undressed or dressed without assistance. I guess elastic shorts and dresses are good way to go!

Thanks again!
