When we go to Disneyland my son will be 2 years and 9 months....since under 3 gets in for free and is also free for character meals...do they ask for some type of ID? Do they still need some type of ticket to get through the gate?

My daughter was just about the same age last year & we never were questioned about her age. She didn't need a ticket at the gates, for our ToonTown Magic Madness, or at any of the character meals. I felt almost weird at the meals not paying for her....

Thanks for the quick answers...my little guy can at times have quite the appetite...it will be weird to not pay for him at the Character meals!

Because we're silly, we actually brought DS's birth certificate on our second trip when he was 2.5 y.o. Put it in a ziplock bag (it's folded anyway), put it at the bottom of my bag, and never needed it.

When he was getting ready to turn 3 he liked to answer all sorts of numbers when asked how old he was, so we just decided it was easiest to have the b.c. just in case someone actually believed that he was 5. :headache:

Our first family trip was when my DD was 2yr 11mo and my DS 9mo. No one ever asked about my DD even though she is tall for her age.
Free park entry and character meals for both kids, those were the days! My son turns 3 next month, before our next trip. :sad2:

My daughter will be three DURING our visit but when I called to book everything they explained that it is what is valid AT THE TIME OF BOOKING that counts! :) So even though she turns three that weekend we are happy to have been honest and still saved $$

They take your word for it useually, since minors generally dont have Id

I think CMs know the Disney feelings ... customer's experience means more than a few bucks.... leads to repeat and add on sales.... let alone word of mouth regarding experience. :thumbsup2

My daughter also turns 3 during our trip. When I had tickets added to our room at DLH, I got 6-day PH for three of us and 4-day PH for the birthday girl. The CM didn't say that she wouldn't need a ticket, and went along with my plan as if it was the appropriate thing to do. Did they tell you that she wouldn't need an admission ticket?

My daughter got in free when she was 3 nothing was ever said this was 2 months after her birthday in may 08.

We went again in oct 08 the same year and I bought a parkhopper for her she was big enough to ride most all the rides and didn't look 2 anymore.

From what I have always understood, your youngest should NOT need tickets for any part of your stay. The age is based on the start date of your vacation. so since she is 2 on the day you check in and first day you enter the park, she is 2 for the length of stay. So, if you can I would call and cancell your 4 day hopper

Our kids look a lot older than they are (our DS5 looks 7-8 and our DD3 looks 5+), so we always carry copies of their birth certificates. (We didn't start doing that until we had a very bad experience with AirTran where we didn't have it with us.) We've never been questioned about their ages at Disney (and are seldom questioned elsewhere), but it's comforting to have it with us just in case.

That was our experience two years ago, as well. My son turned 3 on our last day in the parks. I called beforehand to verify that he wouldn't need a ticket, and they said that was correct. He never needed a ticket throughout the whole trip.

I did carry a photocopy of his birth certificate with us, since he is very tall for his age, and I tend to worry ;) but we never needed it.

Have a great time!! :goodvibes

Just because you got away with it, doesn't mean it's ok...sorry not to be rude but I hate when people think that stealing is ok just because they didn't get caught.

It just goes off the age of the child the first day of entry for a PH, so if they are turning 3 sometime on the trip they don't need a ticket because they were not 3 on the first day of the trip - it is not based on when the tickets were bought.

I know when I was booking Fantasmic spots I told the lady when she asked how old me daughter was, that she was 2 and would be 3 at the showtime. She said that was fine and 'she's two right now isn't she?' and that was that. This was our experience and the same for our booking - shes not three until our stay. Next time we will pay!

Not to be rude right back, and we are not thinking that stealing is okay, whether you get "caught" or not... it WAS based on when we bought our tickets that determined wether we purchased a ticket for DD who was not 3 when we ordered them, it was that she was 3 when we went. Like others have posted, I guess they figure that making a few dollars off a child isn't worth much if you never come back to the park again, or tell friends what a wonderful time you had, or didn't have, etc.

I think the PPs point was, if your DD was 2 at the start of your visit then you are fine without purchasing her a ticket BUT if your DD was 3 at the start of your visit then you should have purchased her a ticket. It doesn't matter when you order them, it matter what age she is when you go.

OP, you might want to take a small photocopy of the birth cert. just in case. We were entering DCA once and the CM wasn't going to let a family in because she said, and I do quote, "he's too big, he needs a ticket, no way he's under 3". She did eventually let them in but it took a long time and she told them "you have to buy him a ticket next time because he's too big". LOL Just an fyi. :)

Thanks....that is a good idea....then we wouldn't have to worry about something like this happening!!

Interesting. I wonder how old the kid really was. There can be such a huge range of sizes for kids that it would be hard to say who's 3 and who's not. You would think that if they're more concerned with how big someone is that they would base the tickets on height, not age. That would be good for us because DS is not very tall and is closer in size to an average 2 year old! :rotfl: I just about had a heart attack when I realized there was no kid price for APs and we would have to pay full price. But we did it anyway. I just tried not to think about it too much as I was handing my money over.
