Our guests had to cancel due to medical reasons. We have a 2 BR for 4 of us. Should we stretch out and enjoy it (and later have to get more points because we enjoy it so :rotfl:) or should we invite a newly single family member and their child? I am concerned about spending the extra money with Christmas around the corner, but on the flip side think that it would make it a really nice holiday season for the 2 of them and my kids can go without some stuff. We have AP's so the only expense we have now is gas to get there and the DDP.
What would you do?

Well I'll tell you we had a similiar situation in early summer. We booked a grand villa to HHI for June and invited both sets of grandparents along with our family of four. Everyone was on board and happy. My parents were really looking forward to it as they had been to HHI before and loved it. Well unfortunately two months before we were to go my father had a massive stroke and was to be in rehab for months so he and my mother could not travel. :( Then my fil decided he really didn't want to go, so that left just my mil and our family of four for a GV!

We asked my bil who is a single dad of two kids if he would like to come with us, but he declined as he could not get off work. With all the stress of my dad's condition we didn't even think about our vacation until the month before when we knew he would be okay, but in need of lots of rehab. We toyed around with asking several others but decided it was also probably too late for them too to ask for vacation time and just decided to enjoy the GV for the 5 of us! It spoiled us immensely!!!

However in your situation if you think it would be fun to travel with the family member and child in your situation I say go for it, if it can work out for them it would be great for all of you! However if it doesn't enjoy the extra room!!!!

I have two thoughts - first we are in your situation also. 12 days to leave...but with 3 weeks to go our Dfriends and their 3 children had to back out due to them separating :sad1:. We have a 2 BDR at BCV which we WL for and were so excited it came through. We had to keep it to stretch out bc we have a Feb UY and our points that would have been in holding could not be used before then. We decided to just go and enjoy the extra space and the time for just the four of us.

My part 2 is my DSIL is recently divorced and we just invited her to stay with us over Christmas - time with the girls will surely help distract SOME of the sadness. So knowing how grateful she was to have an option to sleep over (she lives about 45 minutes away) I'm sure the trip would be really special for your family members!!!

We did something similar once, but not because someone backed out. We had our family of 4 adults booked in a 2 bedroom when a dear friend was going through a divorce. She lost her job, and we asked her and her 14 YO son to join us for part of the trip. They thoroughly enjoyed the distraction from all the troubles, and I was so glad we made the effort! I would recommend it highly!:thumbsup2
