2 way radios

We use cell phones instead. Haven't used radios in years.

I agree. Cell phones are much more practical than the radios.

BTW, cell phones can be hard to hear ring when you're in one of the parks because of all the noise. But if you set your phone to vibrate instead of ring you'll be able to know when you're getting a call. Of course, you wouldn't want to answer one in the middle of an attraction.

If you can do text messaging, that would probably be ideal...since sometimes it can be noisy and hard to understand those radios.
I was thinking about bringing the radios but then thought it would be another thing to lose!

We have four Uniden GRM 2089-2CK radio's that we will be taking on our trip. One of the nice features of this model is its Scramble technology. This prevents outside monitoring of your radio. It also lets you see who is calling you from your group as well as letting you change the channel of all the radios in your group from one radio, this along with 142 privacy codes and 22 channels you can find a channel that will allow you to have only your party on it.
I tried it with another radio (Cobra) that I had. I could hear the transmission from the Uniden radio on the Cobra, but I could not transmit back to the Uniden using the Cobra. It blocked out the transmission from the Cobra completely.

On our second trip we split the vacation between WDW and SeaWorld and during that time we used the two way radios. I forget what brand they were. At any rate we lost each other at SeaWorld for close to 2 hours. The radio was useless. I heard so many other conversations about other people from other people that I felt like I was there with a different family. We both tried the different signals, but to no avail. We gave up on the 2way radio and have used our cell phones ever since. And... ever since we have not lost each other either.

We are Canadians and I assume the charges will be outrageous to use it down there!!

Oh YEAH. They'll kill you on roaming charges-- they do when I use my phone in Canada. Get a couple of Trac phones at Walmart for about $15 that have 20-30 minutes. That would be a lot cheaper. You can get extra cards cheap if you need them. Hop over to the Canadian Board. They can help you figure out the best way to do this.

when we were there in 07, i noticed alot of people using their cell phones.
So I guess now I have a little more research to do concerning the L/distance charges. We are Canadians and I assume the charges will be outrageous to use it down there!!
I really don't know, as I dont have a cell phone:laughing: but D/H has one. I dont have a use for one, we dont need the 2 bills in our home when that money could go in our trip jar!!

You might want to try these also. Here is the link;

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using Boost/Nextel at Disney just got a whole lot cheaper!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few days ago, the points of which prepaid phone to buy/use on Disney was discussed, here -- I said "Boost Mobile" because it's basically a Nextel phone (complete with walkie-talkie) in a pre-pay package, and Nextel towers are present on WDW property (though a bit incognito...), making their signal the best one on property.

Now, there's another reason to grab a couple of Boost Mobile phones...

The Boost Mobile Motorola i415 has just been reduced to $19.99 at Wal-Mart!

This phone is packed with $10 worth of airtime, which, at $1 a day for unlimited walkie-talkie calls makes it perfect for your Disney trip!

Also, internet access over the phone costs only 35 cents a day -- absolutely perfect for that early Southwest Airlines check-in while you're still out playing!

The i415 is not what I would call a "glamorous" phone, as it is a candybar style phone. But, it does have the same rugged cases many Nextel handsets are famous for -- tailor-made for those hard-charging park commandos!

Just thought I'd pass the word...
