Hey all! I started the thread about the airline bumping my flight and forcing us to check in early and take a chance on our room being ready. Here's another question for you.

We'll have family checking into their villa at around 4. We've requested villas close together (they're supposedly "linked" ressies). I'm assuming that will decrease our chances of my villa being ready early?

What does the desk give precedence to in this case? Room ready or reservation request?

The other villa is in their name but it's on my points and membership. I can't check in for them, can I?

You have to be on the reservation to check in.

The more specific your request, the less likely it will be ready early.

I read your other post. So it's VWL, correct?

I honestly don't believe VWL actually follows room ready. Just my thought on VWL. (I know for a fact that others do. Always get my room early) Because they are probably always to capacity. Last check-in I asked at 7:30am/8:00 is there any "room ready" units because I didn't need any requests and would take anything/switch if it existed. She said, "no" quite firmly. I asked if they were at capacity the night before? (Curious since her "no" was fast and without the computer). She had a vague answer that really didn't answer. Maybe a "we usually are".

Also, I've put my name on multiple rooms before. I know some wouldn't do this. But I feel that if I'm organizing a bunch of people I want, as the owner, to check them in if I want to. (No DDP on all these reservations). MS rarely asks but when they do I tell the truth because it's a group, I will be going back and forth and at times, and once I wanted to fill my BIL's fridge for him because he was in so late.

So whether you do check them in won't probably speed things up at VWL. They could have preassigned you a room that takes awhile to clean. But checking in together might up your chances of getting close together. But like I said who knows at VWL because I honestly believe that they work on set room assignments most nights. In that case, preassigned, your chances of being close together at any check in time is good.

Good luck.

Make sure someone from the early party is on both reservations and check in at the same time. That way they should get them close together. I would expect if you get a room early and they check in hours later, it would decrease the chances of success in getting them close. You can always have them get their keys and put their CC on when they arrive later, just don't put a CC on that room when you check into it.

Okay...I'm now giving some thought to putting one of our names on the other villa so we can get them both at the same time.

However, both villas are on the DDP. Let's say we check in both villas at 10 AM, will we have to pay right then and there for the DDP for our party that won't be arriving until 4? Or can they come down and do that later?

I'm pretty sure that if you are getting the dining plan and have your name on 2 ressies, then you get to pay 2X for the dining plan. Ouch!

Maybe you could officially be staying with the other party, while your spouse is on your reservation. Nothing says that you actually have to stay with the other party.

BTW, we asked for ressies to be close together and they were at opposite ends of BWV on different floors. A smoking issue was involved though.

I booked a 2 bedroom and a studio unit for November for a family trip. Member Services would NOT let me put my name on both reservations. We are staying at Pop Century the first night and I wanted to go over to OKW and check us all in the next morning while everyone else goes to a park. Now I will have to take someone with me whose name is on the other room to check in as I am hoping to get rooms close together.

We stayed at VWL in October/November and needed a studio and 2 bedroom. DSis/I checked into the studio on the Saturday, and I was on both reservations. Sunday morning I went to the desk and checked in for the 2 bedroom and was told that "our" unit wasn't ready but one that was just a bit more down the hall was, did I want that? I sure did. That way, I could go shopping for the family, fill the frig and by the time the larger family arrived, we were good to go!

So, we were close together, and got the next available, in spite of there being an obviously assigned room. We were very happy with the outcome!

PS. We have found it convenient for some of our party to be at the resort the night before so there's a unit to use while the rest of the party waits for their villa. We're doing that again in November.

When you check in, you will have to pay for the DDP for everyone on the plan.

If you have the DDP, you should still have no problem. Just rearrange the names so that you are on one and your spouse on the other. Then when you get there, you can check in to both units and rearrange again so that everyone is where they need to be with the DDP and room keys. I've done it several times with and without the DDP.
