Hi. I currently have a reservation booked with a BB rate. Family wants to join on our trip. I am also an AP holder and wanted to book them a room with the AP discount rate, but will not be staying in their room. Is this allowed? I called and first cast member said I would need to cancel my BB rate and book both rooms with the AP rate. Second cast member said I could stay in original room with the BB rate and just book the AP rate for family as long as the resort and dates are the same. Thanks in advance for any clarification on this.

You have to be in a room on the AP rate in order to get it at the AP rate.

How many people are in the family that wants to join you? Is the extra fee for an extra adult (you) worth the discount?

Did you check to see if the AP rate would be available and better than your BB rate? Most of the time, the AP rate is a better discount than the BB rate. We have converted our BB reservation to the AP discount three times now. But sometimes the BB is better. It is worth looking into. If you can make your current reservation an AP discount, then you would be able to add a second room with the discount.

For this trip, the BB rate is better than the AP rate. It is a family of 4 who would be in the other room. Is it possible for me to keep my BB rate and just book a second room with the AP rate for the family of 4?

Not unless you're listed as being an occupant in that other room.

This posts a quandry for me as I have booked rooms for other family members with my AP rate, but my name is in the room also. This negates me from buying the DDP for the occupants, as I'd have to buy myself the DDP more than once. Doesn't make sense to me. I'll just forgo the DDP. And yes, I do know the pros and cons about using the DDP but really wanted to apply this to this family trip. Perhaps I'll just give them gift cards for their lunch etc. We will all be having dinner together and I'll be picking up the tab for the entire family.
