If you wanted fewer points than what would be considered a master for a new owner then that is what usually is prohibited. If it was more (like 75 or more points) then they usually will do that.

It's the norm with such companies, DVC is nothing if not inconsistent. In this case you were given incorrect information assuming you were looking at adding points that were enough for them to sell separately, anywhere from 50-100 the last few years but more at other times.
