I saw this on the sticky thread:

"Renters will receive all WDW resort guests’ benefits such as free parking at the WDW theme parks, use of Disney transportation, Magical Express and Extra Magic Hours. DVC Member benefits such as dining discounts, pool hopping and free valet parking are not transferable to renters."

1. Can renters get the same discount as DVC members on tickets to the special events like "Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party" or "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party "? I would guess no, but wanted to make sure. It's not that big a discount anyway (~$3 per person).

2. Do renters get free Wi-Fi like DVC members do, or do they have to pay the $10 per 24 hours like regular visitors?

Thank you in advance for your help.

The benefits you receive as a member are the ones that you noted. Only DVC members would be eligible for the discounts at MNSOHP and MVMCP. The same would hold true for free wi-fi, members only.

Enjoy all the other perks and enjoy your stay.

Robert

1. No

2. Technically no. In reality, my understanding is that the front desk often doesn't check and you get free Wi-Fi. Plan on paying for it though - if you wouldn't pay for it, don't use it because when it does get added to your bill, you aren't entitled to it being free.

no.

the internet connection is by cable, not wi-fi. renters should expect to pay but there have been conflicting reports...sometimes the front desk just doesn't charge for it...

Speaking of renter privileges, can we get the Disney Dining Plan without park tickets? (My father-in-law is getting us the military tickets so we don't need passes.) Does our entire party need to have DDP for us to have it?

Also, do we have to pay for more than two adults in a room? Ex: my in-laws might stay with us one night and my sister might join us for another night? Would they each get a room key if we ask for it while they are there? I don't mind declaring them as staying with us even if it costs extra as I would want them to be able to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours with us.

At non-DVC Disney resorts, it makes you pay upfront for access. It doesn't sound like that applies at DVC hotels.

Do the DVC hotels have the capability to "know" that you used the internet just by bandwidth? Are there any renters out there that were charged for it?

I will be prepared to pay, but I can also see them not policing that.

Thanks.

We stayed on points last summer and didnt pay for the internet..we also have stayed in the past and were offered the free valet parking

Yes, Yes.
Since a rented points stay is reserved through DVC MS, then the owner of the points sould be able to add the DDP (or QSDDP or DDxP) to the reservation, no tickets needed. Note: the points owner must add the DDP to your reservation at least 48 hours prior to arrival. The entire party needs to have the DDP for the entire stay. (Even if a guest is only added to the reservation for one day, you must buy the DDP for that person for the entire stay. Based on your below comment, the DDP may not be a good value for you unless you want to use the extra credits for more signature dining))

If the 2 adults fit into the unit's stated total occupancy (4 for studio, 4 for 1BR (or 5 for AKV/BLT) 8 for 2BR (9 for AKV/BLT/THV).., there are no additional charges on points reservations for the age of the occupant (unlike the CRO hotels that may charge more for older kids/adults)

DVC members can purchase the DDP for themselves or their guests and renters without a ticket purchase. Everyone staying on the reservation must purchase the dining plan for the entire length of the stay. So if you have two guests stay for two nights and another guest stay for one night, you will have to purchase the dining plan for all of them. You cannot exceed the occupancy of the villa.

If you booked the room on points, there is no "paying extra" for additional people to stay. You are limited to the number of sleeping spaces in the room plus one child under the age of three. You don't pay for extra adults over two adults in villas.

Renters have no privileges other than the same perks and benefits all WDW guests get as were mentioned above.

We have had reports here of DVC members being charged for both Internet access and valet parking. They had to go to the front desk and show their blue DVC member card to get the charges taken off the bill. So while you may get lucky on your stay and not be charged for either of these member perks, you may have to pay for them if they appear on your bill.

Add your in laws to the reservation so you get KTTW keys for them right away. Then when they leave and your sister comes, just give her one of the keys. You wont ever be over the ocupancy, so no probelm with that. If , however, you are doing the dining plan, you will be required to pay the dining plan for all persons on the reservation for all nights of the reservation, whether they stay one night or all nights.

I don't understand ... getting "lucky" would mean they wouldn't be on th bill, right?

Are you implying there are two bills?

If a DVC member is charged for internet, we can go to the front desk, show our DVC member card, and have the charge removed. However, as a renter, you won't have that option. If the internet charges appear on your bill at check out, you will be expected to pay for them.

However, some renters have been lucky and never received a bill.

And sometimes they charge for it when they aren't supposed to. We had to have it removed from our bill every time we used it last trip. We always get a print-out of our room charges a minimum of every other day - to verify that what's on there agrees with what we think we have spent (with 6 people making charges it helped to keep track!) Every time we logged in we got billed and would have to take it up to the front desk and have it removed, and every time they couldn't believe that it was on there and didn't understand why we got charged and apologized profusely, and the next time we used it we'd get charged again :headache:

Similar stories have come from other DVC perks - notably valet parking. For DVC members, its just a pain to have to go to the front desk and have the charges removed - especially if you don't bother with a bill until checkout and have an early flight. For renters, if you get the bill, you will be responsible for charges - so don't valet park or use internet unless you have it budgeted - and if you don't get billed for it chalk it up to Disney Magic (or in this case really poor process repeatability).

ValpoCory - there is just one bill - your room bill. Any charges against your room will go onto your room bill - if you use your room key to charge in the parks, if you use internet or valet. With a DVC rental, if you don't charge anything to your room you might walk out with no room bill at all. At checkin they will ask for a credit card to apply charges to your room - you can then use your room key at most places in property as a charge card. There are days when we go to the park carrying nothing but our room key (you can transfer your tickets onto your room key as well).

We won't be having anything charged to our room so we won't allow that access when we check-in. So, the KTTW key is the proof of staying at the resort only in this case, so it works for transportation and early entry and that is all, right? Anything else it will automatically do?

Also, my parents are staying at Fort Wilderness in their camper. Will they be able to drive their car to the BCV (we hope to get) and park for free if they come over? Or will they have to take WDW transportation?

Let me tell you about the security guards at BC/BCV. We stayed there a little over a week ago for nine nights. We used our car quite often because we went to the water parks nearly every morning. When we drove back to the resort to park, we were asked for a driver's license and resort ID each and every time, even with the parking permit on our front window that showed that we were paying guests there. When we asked them why we had to show the DL and resort ID even though we had the parking pass, they said anyone could make a parking pass.

Your parents may just want to meet you at the parks rather than go through the grill by the guards.

Your KTTW is your room key and resort ID. If you don't give them a credit card when you check in, they won't give you computer access at all since that is really a room charge. Same with phone calls.

Thanks crisi. We never rent cars when we go to Disney, so valet won't be a problem. However, we do pay for internet access about every other day, to check out our PhotoPass pics and send out our camera's pics to family. So we'll definitely plan to pay, just in case.

Thanks again.
