Hi,

I thought I'd try putting both of my questions in the same post.

The first is regarding kids and costumes at the Halloween party. I know it will be warm (whereas the costumes they need here they need for very cold weather) but how comfortable are they in the parks in costumes? My dd is very much a princess LOL, and we were looking at the Jasmine costume, but I just can't imagine spending hours in one of those outfits. I also picture her sliding out of her seat at Big Thunder in the slippery pants LOL. And for my son, I am completely clueless. He is 11 1/2 and all the costumes at TDS look too warm and stuffy for him to wear in Orlando in October. Suggestions, tips, opinions???

Next, what do we need to pack in October. I've been twice in December, and know to pack for everything. I've also been in July and August and know to pack only tanks and shorts. What do we need in October? Will we need jeans at all? Keep in mind we are coming from Minnesota so warm is a relative thing LOL.

I am packing mostly shorts, t-shirts, and tanks. I will pack a sweatshirt, jeans, light jacket because I tend to get cold at night even when others are hot. I will pack the same for DD and DH. We are in Wisconsin so we have similar weather to you. :)

I am struggling with the costume thing also. If I buy a princess costume it will be too cold to wear it here. DD wants to be Pooh, but too hot to wear it in Florida. I don't know what I am going to do yet. :(

Thank goodness for hand-me-downs! At MNSSHP, DS will be wearing my nephews Peter Pan costume from last year (short sleeves & thin pants) and DD will be wearing last years' TDS Jasmine costume that we bought cheap after Halloween last year.

As far as trick or treating at home on Halloween, in the cold weather, I'll worry about that later!!

I'm not sure what the weather is like in October, but we will probably bring a pair of jeans and sweatshirt for each of us. I know our last trip in May, we were chilly in the early morning, so we had light windbreakers that we shed by 10am.

We went to WDW last year at the end of September/first week of October and did MNSSHP. Let me just say that the weather was HOT and humid!! I brought a one piece tigger costume for my almost 2 year old Ds and it was WAY to hot to wear it, even at night. It wasnt even furry.. just made of sweat shirt material. Me and my older DD dressed as 50's girls and my youngest DD was cinderella. I was hot and sticky the whole night. When we walked out of the park at midnight, I was still sweaty and the netting under my skirt was sticking to me.. :crazy2: blah!! Even though it was early in October, we went with a Halloween theme all week. We wore halloween shirts pretty much all week. Target had some really cute tshirts out for halloween, and they were like 5 bucks. My DS ended up wearing a short sleeved shirt that said "im a little monster" on it with a picture of a cute frankestein to the party. My mom made us all Jack o Lantern shirts out of Orange t shirts she bought at JoAnn Fabrics, then just painted a face on them. They girls had orange jackolantern tank tops. My mom and dad wore their jackolantern shirts to MNSSHP.
We personally didnt need jeans or coats in October, but we were there the first week.

We were there last year over Columbus weekend. We did not need anything warm even when it downpoured on us one night. Bring shorts and t-shirts. It was warm enough to go swimming.

We went to the halloween party as Harry Potter and Hermonie. We wore our regular shorts and t-shirt and wore a black robe that opened in the front. It was easy to take off when we got hot.

You might have to get creative on the costumes and venture past the full costumes bought at the store. For example, want to be Pooh, how about yellow tshirt, red shorts, a small pillow for the tummy which could be tossed if too hot, and make some ear and attach to a head band. Draw on a cute black button nose.

Don't worry about the weather. It will be warm but not super hot. And if a freak winter cold front comes through, the stores had sweat shirts and jackets for sale.

Have a great time.

That would be a pity to have to buy a sweatshirt or jacket, wouldn't it? :hyper:

elberger,
We've been to WDW twice in mid-Oct. (MEA) and going again this year! For the most part, it was always shorts and t-shirts for us though we needed a sweatshirt/light jacket on our Illuminations cruise. In fact, sometimes the air conditioning at that time of year requires some to need a sweatshirt/sweater. My sister is a big freeze baby so she always brings one. Our kids are 13 and 10 - the 13 year-old and her 12-year old cousin are wearing tiars with pink feathers and jewels - bought at Michaels. My son, almost 11, is planning on the Twins being in the playoffs so he will be wearing his Twins gear. We did that 2 years ago (all of us were in our playoff shirts, with red and blue beads) and we got lots of high fives, "good lucks", etc. So if the Twins make it, look for a big group of people wearing Twins shirts - 2 of them will be wearing tiaras!;)

Which night are you going to the party? You can bet my dh will be able to spot Twins gear from a mile away. Hmmmmmmmm, that could present a problem if they are in the playoffs at that time, he will be going nuts missing the games LOL!

Erika,
We are going to the party Oct. 17 and believe me if the Twins are in the playoffs I'm going to be hearing some whining. We have season tickets and my DH just called this morning and asked how many seats we should order for the playoffs and World Series. "Honey, remember we'll be at Disney in Oct.?" Silence....silence. "I think I'll get 4 - we're staying near ESPN, right?" "Yes, dear, but we have MNSSHP, an Illuminations cruise, Fantasmic and possibly a Wishes cruise." More silence. "Whose idea was it to go in October??!!" Oh well, we will figure it out. I see you are at the BWV. We will be at the Poly, then BCV, then GF! Lots of moving around but we like the variety - and we are taking my parents who will both be celebrating their 75th birthdays - so they will have a trip to remember. I just realized something - my dad is a HUGR Twins fan. Yikes! WHen are you going to the party?

We are going on the 20th. Yes, we are at the BWV, so we will be very close to ESPN. Good thing the food there is good, because if they are in the playoffs, I bet we'll be eating there a lot. I bet it hasn't even occured to my dh that we'll be in Disney during the playoffs LOL. I'll be hearing some whining too LOL. Maybe we'll see you some night at ESPN for dinner :D

elgerber,

Funny that you ask this question today. We have been at WDW on Halloween for MNSSHP and then the first week of November in both 2000 and 2003. When I was out at lunch (not at Ridgedale today!) I was thinking the weather today reminds me of our WDW; a little damp in the morning, and then just a little warm and humid (in a Minnesotan's opinion) throughout the day.

Have your DD get that costume on tonight for a trial run!

My DDs were Jasmine and Belle, and DS8 was Buzz Lightyear at last year's MNSSHP. They had no problems.

And, speaking of the Twins, DS8 and I met Cory Koskie at MNSSHP while we were waiting for everyone else to get off of Goofy's Barnstormer. His son was also Buzz!

If we get Koskie and Mauer back healthy, look out American League!

Wow, that must have been cool to meet him there! I can hear the baseball game coming from my living room as I type.

Did you bring jeans at all for late October??

I am more concerned about the comfort level of the Jasmine costume itself, than in the heat. The pants are so slippery and the top has that scratchy netting stuff. I'll see what else I might be able to talk them into. I like the Tiara and jewels idea, maybe a feather boa? She could be a princess without the Disney princess costume.

No Ridgedale today huh? I was just out there on Sunday (I've been working from home all summer, so I don't get there for lunch much anymore either. But since they go back to school tomorrow, I'll probably be there more often now :D .

I've had the same thoughts about the Princess costumes (I'd never wear one!), but our DDs never complained!

We've packed one pair of jeans for everyone on both of our autumn WDW trips and none of them have ever left the suitcase, but we may have just been blessed with atypical great weather.
