2 questions about FJ and Express

I think I understand most of this, but I have a few specific questions.

1. I am traveling in a party of five. My mother will not be able to ride FJ due to motion sickness, and my youngest is right on the line for height. Since at least one of them will not actually ride but will want to walk through the castle with us, can we avoid storing our things and just give them to my mom when we get on the ride?

2. We plan to be there on June 27 & 28, a Monday and Tuesday. I know this should be a busy time based on the express pass prices. I booked my hotel too early and am now locked into a package without early entry. I would prefer to not buy the express pass, but am I being unrealistic?

My actual plan is to arrive early for opening at US on the 26th and follow the touring plan from the unofficial guide to see the attractions. In the evening, I plan to switch over to IOA and attempt to do some of the WWOHP attractions, hopefully with reduced lines. On the 27th, we would again arrive early, and plan to do anything we missed in WWOHP and then the rest of the park, again using the Unofficial Guide touring plan.

If that plan is unrealistic at that time of year, I could book us into RPR on the 26th and get the accompanying perks for both days. This would be a cheaper, and I think better option than buying regular express passes for five people. Now, that $300 expense would hurt a little in our budget, probably fewer souvenirs or fewer table service meals, but not un-doable.

We've only been to Orlando once, in early June of 2003. We found the crowds to be very manageable at that time, and really didn't mind not having the express pass, but I understand that late June could be a very different beast. With my very limited experience, I'm looking for advice from more seasoned park goers. Should I spring for the hotel for one night, in essence buying express passes, or save the money and plan to do a bit more waiting?:goodvibes

If you are doing child swap or your mom is going through the line but not riding, you can hold onto your bags until it is time to ride and give them to your mom. Just tell the TM at the line entrance that you are doing child swap (or otherwise have a non-rider) so they know you are not planning to try to get the bags on the ride.

We have been to Universal in the summer several times, both pre- and post-WWOHP. Our first visit was a day trip from Disney - since then, we have stayed onsite and found it to be well worth it. We find the express access to be invaluable when travelling with kids, especially when it is hot and crowded.

That's not to say you can't make it work without it. There is no express for FJ, so staying onsite or buying express passes won't help you with that. But if you stay onsite, you can enter WWOHP an hour early and get that done before the crowds get too huge.

For us, it is worth putting staying onsite into the budget. We love all the onsite hotels, and the express access and early entry increases our enjoyment of the trip exponentially. :goodvibes

Thanks for the advice. I'm really torn on the onsite thing, but might go ahead and spring for it.

If you can do it, I would stongly recommend it. You are coming at the height of summer and the crowds will be bad...not to mention the heat and humidity. Having the option of heading to the pool to relax a while will really come in handy.

OK. Thanks for the input. I bit the bullet and registered for one night at Portifino bay. Now that I've made the decision, I'm excited.:cool1:
