2 Officers shot in Dallas tonight during police protest rally

It's a sad day when innocent people lose their lives. Be it a cop or a man in a routine traffic stop. I'm a believer that you only kill someone if your life is in immediate danger.

With that said, I saw this coming. It was bound to happen. Peaceful protests and riots have gotten nowhere. Is it right? NO!

Horrific. This was a coordinated effort against the police department by some sick and disgusting person.

This was an attack against police and against our way of life. We have the right to peaceful protest, and this was a peaceful protest. The Dallas PD was working with the protesters, and live tweeting the event. Protesters spoke highly of the police and how they were there to keep them safe. The shooter wanted to execute police and make a statement. They were trying to escalate the situation, and divide people, hopefully they don't divide us.

Police lives matter, black lives matter. They are not mutually exclusive, and we can support both, we don't have to pick a side. When a black man leaves his home, he has the right to go about his day and make it back home. Police have that same right. They should be able to go to work, and then come home to their family. Last night several families lost their father, mother, daughter, son, brother, sister. It's incredibly painful to think about. Too much loss and too much violence in our society.

My thoughts and prayers are with the police department, the victims and their families, and the city of Dallas.

This is a direct result of some of the political posturing, by the governor of Minnesota and others, in the aftermath of the other recent officer-involved shootings. Race baiting politicians think "No crisis should go to waste."

2,000 people were shot in Chicago so far in 2016, 64 last weekend -- but they don't matter. The politicians there don't care.

Murders are up something like 400% in Baltimore after their race riots, but those victims don't matter either. The politicians also blew the prosecutions of the officers they thought were responsible -- so nobody pays except the innocent people of Baltimore.

Only the votes and fundraising matter.

5 officers dead. This is what happens when you vilify police. Are they perfect? No, they are human. But 99% of them are good men and women doing their best to keep us safe. The attitude of division from the top down in this country is sick. We are a nation that holds our right to protest dearly, but violence at protests is never right. VERY hard to believe this was not in some way coordinated due to the scope and targeting. Whether it was a group using the BLM protest as an opportunity or some collusion, I don't know, but the inflamed rhetoric before facts are in has to stop. Those who truly want to protest peacefully need to step back from these "organizations" and protest on their own and stay away from the pot-stirrers.

This is horrible! Prayers to the officers and their families!

The protest had been peaceful and without incident until...

Bystander video shown on CNN, http://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2016/07/08/bystander-records-dallas-shooting-from-hotel-balcony-sot.cnn

That buy was prepared to do some damage! And one of the suspects in custody is saying "The end is near" and "We're going to kill more police officers" and has said that bombs are planted all over the city.

Sounds pretty terrorist-like to me!
I agree...this is terrorism. It's just awful.

2000? I read 64.
I corrected my post above. 2,000+ shot in Chicago so far in 2016, 330+ dead so far, and you're right -- only 64 shot over the weekend (a little less than 1 per hour)

There are many kinds of terrorism -- political, religious, racist, ideological, state-sponsored, etc. This is racist terrorism.

This is what happens when people let hate and prejudice control their actions. We all are better than this. Time for communities to stand together for the better society we all deserve.

That is incorrect. 4 were killed.
I corrected the above error.

Chicago has 330+ murders in 170 days so far in 2016. The numbers are a few days behind -- it's hard to keep up! That's more murders than Los Angeles and New York combined, and almost 2 per day.

Almost one shooting per hour last weekend -- and they're bragging that at least it was better than last year!

I'm so sick of this! Why do we have to keep doing this? We need to come together, not continue to drift apart.

I'm so grateful to my parents for teaching me to accept & love people regardless of race, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. I am also grateful at a young age to have attended schools that were very diverse because that showed me that there are good, and bad people in every catergory. The fact that I am grateful for things that should be a given, is really sad.

This picture I saw taken before the horrific events showed that maybe, slowly, one community at a time we were healing the gap.

One step forward to healing only hours later to take 5 giant steps back.

Absolutely gut wrenching.

No we're not. Not nearly "all" of us.
Not nearly, all, but the vast majority...unfortunately there are those that let their hate rule them...but it is a failing of society that we taught them this hate...allowed people to become racist, or anti-police, or anti-women, or just plain sociopathic behavior that have been the baseline cause of violent acts everywhere in the country. I have faith that we can be a better society...we just need more empathy and respect for each other.

And humans kill with cars and knives as well. In fact knives kill 5x more people than guns in this country. I myself don't own a gun, but I support the right to own a gun. The truth is bad people will still find a way to get a gun.

Can you provide a link! Of murders in the US fours times more are committed with firearms so I question your comment. I think that statement you made is false.
