The ship yard is booked that far into the future. The industry is constantly filling the need for the new and fancy ships. They can't jump the line at the preferred ship builder.Yay, but omg, that is SO far away! Seriously, it's Disney, couldn't they get it done sooner than that? I know they already have the plans made up and have had them for some time.
This is great news, but I'm curious where they'll station the ships. They seem to have the Bahamas & the Carribean covered. Perhaps one of these ships is bound for Asia?

I think it frees up the smaller ships (Magic and Wonder) to stop doing the Caribbean and Bahamas entirely and go to those smaller and more exotic ports. The big ships will run the Caribbean routes. Maybe we'll see more NYC sailings too?
My prediction is that the two new ships will take over for the Fantasy and Dream out of PC. They will start sending 2 ships to Europe in the Summer, one to do the Northern Europe itineraries and one for the Med, probably one of those will be the Fantasy or the Dream. At least one of the smaller (Magic or Wonder) ships will go to Asia. The cruising market is growing there. RCI and NCL are sending new ships to do those itineraries. Disney has a natural tie in with their parks in China and Japan.
Would love to see Asia itineraries. Makes sense with Tokyo, Shanghai and HK all having Disneyland Parks, and ABD already having a presence in China for add-on packages.
Will the bigger ships fit through the expanded canal? I thought only the Magic/Wonder would clear the new standards?
I believe the 217' is actually the hight from the keel. The air draft is 188'. At least according to http://disneycruiselineblog.com/wp-.../Disney-Dream-Technical-Information-Sheet.pdfThey would fit though the new locks. However the Dream class has a air draft of 217 feet, and I think that is tight for the Pan American bridge clearance at the west side/Panama City.
AKK
I only hope to still be alive when these ships sail.
