2 NEW ships coming!

Well in 2017 I'll have my grand slam, so then I can save up for 2021 and 2023 to get the other two!

This is great news, but I'm curious where they'll station the ships. They seem to have the Bahamas & the Carribean covered. Perhaps one of these ships is bound for Asia?

Yay, but omg, that is SO far away! Seriously, it's Disney, couldn't they get it done sooner than that? I know they already have the plans made up and have had them for some time.
The ship yard is booked that far into the future. The industry is constantly filling the need for the new and fancy ships. They can't jump the line at the preferred ship builder.

Maybe they can finally keep a ship on the west coast all year long.

I bought DVC before the Dream came out and the salesperson said Disney was building 2 more ships and they would be on the west coast. Of course, she was right about the 2 ships, but very wrong about keeping them on the west coast. It has been great having the Wonder over here as much as we've had her, but I'd love to have more choices without having to fly across the country.

Who knows, maybe the Panama Canal Expansion will be finished by then. :-)

Will the bigger ships fit through the expanded canal? I thought only the Magic/Wonder would clear the new standards?

I think it frees up the smaller ships (Magic and Wonder) to stop doing the Caribbean and Bahamas entirely and go to those smaller and more exotic ports. The big ships will run the Caribbean routes. Maybe we'll see more NYC sailings too?

My prediction is that the two new ships will take over for the Fantasy and Dream out of PC. They will start sending 2 ships to Europe in the Summer, one to do the Northern Europe itineraries and one for the Med, probably one of those will be the Fantasy or the Dream. At least one of the smaller (Magic or Wonder) ships will go to Asia. The cruising market is growing there. RCI and NCL are sending new ships to do those itineraries. Disney has a natural tie in with their parks in China and Japan.

Meyer is booked out years. It easily takes 5 years from starting design to maiden voyage, 2 years of which is actually building. If I am remembering correctly the Fantasy actual construction time was about 18 months or so, this included prefab. work.. Frankly I would rather they design and build the vessel right, then rush them out.

Would love to see Asia itineraries. Makes sense with Tokyo, Shanghai and HK all having Disneyland Parks, and ABD already having a presence in China for add-on packages.

Given the things I have read on Royal Caribbean boards about their ships based in China, I hope not. The behavior reported on some of them is worse than any nightmare entitlement behavior I've read. One time when a ship was rerouted to avoid a storm, the people refused to leave the ship at the end of the cruise and had to be physically removed by law enforcement.

Don't get me wrong - I would love to see the ports. But only if it originated somewhere other than Asia.

They would fit though the new locks. However the Dream class has a air draft of 217 feet, and I think that is tight for the Pan American bridge clearance at the west side/Panama City.

Apparently you are not aware that disney does not build their own ships and no constructing company in the world can build a ship in the time frame in your deeamland..just saying it takes a long time to build a disney masterpiece

Well, 2021 would likely be our 1st "gold" sailing, and if we hit the Wonder in 2019 then we'll have completed our grand slam. So the timing works perfectly for me!
