2 Month Old Shoes Fell Completely Apart-What To Do?

The store is not sketchers (unless it was a sketchers outlet or something). Many times a store will have a return policy. Once that policy is over, any issues have to be taken up with the manufacturer. Why should a store take a hit because the manufacturer doesn't make quality items anymore? At this point the issue is between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

I would never stop shopping somewhere because a random manufacturer isn't up to par anymore. I would no longer shop that brand, but the store isn't at fault. I would never blame a store for holding up their return policy (especially having worked in retail for 13 years including management and seeing what people try and get away with).

I agree that the manufacturer should be ultimately responsible for defective products, but the store should be made aware if they are selling merchandise of poor quality. If no one ever lets the store know that stuff they are selling is poor quality or defective, their buyers will continue to buy junk from the manufacturers and customers will continue to be frustrated.

We just bought my daughter Skecher's Twinkle Toes the first week of September for $45 dollars (I don't normally spend this for my kids shoes, but she LOVED them). I don't even let her wear them to preschool and they are still completely falling apart. The lights still work, which is good, but all the fabric on top is almost completely off. All the "twinkle" is just about gone.

I won't buy them again. I know my daughter loves them and she still wears them, but for $45 they should last longer than eight weeks.

I clicked on this thread to see if they were Skechers.

YEP!

They are junk. Swore I would never buy them again, but my boy wanted them so bad and wears unsightly ankle orthotics so I gave in this fall and bought him the "cool" shoes. The soles are already worn off and it's been about 8 wks. :headache:

I have had this same problem with Sketchers as well. I bought the Airator king (my boys have a little foot odor issue) and ended up buying new shoes within 3 months! Think that shoes should last longer than that!

My absolute best advice for little boys-get their pants and shoes at Sears. If they wear it out, Sears replaces it. If it's a Sears brand (Canyon River Blues, Toughskins), you don't even need the slip, just walk in and swap it out. (Brands you can buy other places- Levis or whatever, you need the slip.)

Never once had a problem there- one year I had to swap DS's pants out 3 times. {I swear the kid walked on his knees on the asphalt or something all day- could NOT keep holes out of his knees, lol}

Most of his shoes come from LLBean for a similar reason. Disclaimer though that we're right near the main store and outlet so not paying full price on those.

I have had great luck with Sketchers, DS8 is on the same pair for over a year now. Have bought Sketchers every year since kindergarten .

Almost all the shoes in my house are Sketchers. hubby wears the dress shoes to work every day, I have 2 pairs of sneakers I wear daily and both of my kids wear them and I have never had a pair fall apart in a year, let alone 2 months.. either it was a defect or your kid is very hard on shoes...:confused3

Hmm, I bought DS a pair of Sketchers Z-Straps yesterday. This will be his 4th pair and I bought them because they seem to be the only shoe that lasts until he outgrows them. Granted that doesn't take long, I think his record is 5 months. But, most others I have tried start separating at the toe within a couple of months, including Nikes. In fact his last pair of Sketchers is in great shape, just getting too small. I have never paid more than $30, but I always get them at Academy.

OP~ Please let us know how you make out with customer service. I hope they send replacements.:wizard:

I completely disagree. The store has a duty to sell products that are of a minimum standard, and to me, not standing behind shoes that fell apart in two months isn't acceptable. Can a warranty of merchantibility hold after two months? I don't know, but I think shoes are expected to last more than two months and would hold it against the store. They can make it right for the customer and return the shoes to the manufacturer themselves. They have a lot more power than a single consumer when it comes to getting a manufacturer to improve their quality because they buy way more than one item. Also, returning at the store lets them know if their merchandise isn't holding up. A reputable store will fix it.

I've worked in retail too, long ago, and I remember people trying to get over on the system. I think it's important for managers to not let that jade them--just because some people are scammers doesn't mean a store shouldn't try to do their best for customers who have a real complaint.

I have found that Sketchers quality has gone down hill the last few years. I bought my husband a pair and they only lasted 3 months or so. After that pair I vowed never to buy another pair of Sketchers again, unfortunately that means that I have greatly diminished the options out there for an affordable comfortable shoe.

I've seen this thread for a few days and everytime I see it I think the shoes must be silk or knitted. My brain wasn't processing the title correctly :scared1:I kept thinking how on earth did a child that was 2 months old wear out a pair of shoes :rotfl2: Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday :rotfl:

You need to buy your shoes at L L Bean. All of their products are 100% guaranteed to meet your expectations or they will replace them or give you a refund. Doesnt matter how long you have had them if you feel they havent lived up to your expectations you can return them. They stand behind there products. I have also heard a tv comercial saying that kohls has a policy similar to L L Beans. Not sure if i believe it though.;)

Harumph. Yeah, they put their OWN filter of THEIR expectations on top of complaints, and that trumps the customer's expectations. I have two things that did not meet my expectations, and they have refused to take them back. YES I've had them for a long time, but I still had expectations that they would last longer than they did, but they do not agree.

In August I purchased a pair of $49.00 Skechers Z Strap shoes for my 6 year old. Last week I was looking at the shoes and noticed that part of the sole was coming apart from the rest of the shoe. I continued to let him wear them to school since it hadn't fallen completely off, it was just separating and he really had no other shoes that were ok to wear to school. When he came home he said his shoe was broken, I looked at it and the Z stap completely tore in half. I am furious! Never have we had shoes fall apart like this. He's not particularly hard on his shoes, he's a boy and plays like a boy.

Today I went to the store where I purchased them and they said they cannot help me because it's been more than 30 days. Is there anything I can do about this with either the store or the manufacturer? I don't think I'll be buying another pair of Skechers again. It's a shame because he loved the Z strap so he could just slip them on and go. Any suggestions appreciated! I just had to spend another $40.00 on shoes that I was not anticipating spending. Makes me soooo mad! :headache:

I actually had two pairs of sketchers do this - a pair of twinkle tows and a pair of boys shoes - this year.
They replaced both pairs with no questions asked and were very nice about it.
I was very happy about their response to this.

I purchased a pair of sketchers for dd4 at the end of August. I purchased the Sketchers because I wasn't really ready for her to move to shoes with laces yet and her foot was too big for the velcro styles.

She's been wearing them for just over 2 months and I've noticed that the sole has worn down so much that it is totally smooth. All of the grips and ridges are completely gone although you can see the outline of where they were.

These were not inexpensive shoes! I think no more sketchers for us!
