Im thinking ahead to next year and might try and book a cheaper holiday to Orlando for me and my husband. Whilst looking through some sites for the cheaper prices, I found that there is a lot of 2* hotels. They all look nice in the pictures but I've never been so I wondered if anyone could reccomend one of the hotels that they have stayed in.

Thanks

Can you give us some names?

The lowest star I have used is the 3 star Quality Inn on I-Drive, which was OK. There was a Rodeway Inn next door that always had prices around the $30 a night mark advertised. It looked OK to me!

I would avoid hotels down on the 192 as there are some REALLY naff ones down there, but most places on I-Drive SEEM pretty much OK. Try to book a chain hotel (like Howard Johnson or Comfort Inn) as if you really hate it when you get there, you can probably move to another one of there properties!

Hi

Sorry but I don't totally agree with Allie, 90% of the hotels on the 192, but must be the west 192 are good you have Ho-Jo, Econolodge, Days Inn, La Quinta, Holiday Inn, Quality Inn etc. it's also where all the best villas are and the best bit is they are right on Disney's door step not miles away like I-Drive. I find I-drive to be a bit like a famous sea side resort but with sun, nice to visit but you woudn't wana stay.

I have booked into the Fairfield Inn by Marriott, as shown in the Virgin broucher, for three nights. It had good reviews on the boards and is only a few years old. I also tend to check a web site called http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...rlando_Universal_Studios-Orlando_Florida.html they give ratings for the hotels. I managed to book a suite for £33 a night. The normal price of this hotel for a suite is $99 and I couldn't find it cheaper than that on any American site. In the end I booked it through Virgin Holidays, even though my flights are booked via Virgin Travel Store. VH also gave me the 10% discount for being a FV. In the suite you get a kingsized bedroom, seperate sitting room, fridge, microwave, ironing board, two tellys and a bed sattee. It is directly oppoist Universal Studios. Also you get free breakfast and shuttle.

The hotel code if you want to view it on VH website is 320

or this is the link

Oh there were so many hotels that were rated as 2*!!! there was all the chain ones like holiday inn etc...

I did like the look of La Quinta - has anyone stayed or been there?

TBH, I dont mind where we stay, as long as its clean and not in a bad area.

Thanks

You may be better off asking this question on the USA trip planning board, as more Americans will have used the chains mentioned....if not in Orlando, then elsewhere.

La Quinta always looked one of the better options, as they appear well kept and smart from the outside at least!!

I am sticking to my opinion that you would be better off on I-drive (though I respect Calvins point of view)...yes, I agree there are some perfectly reasonable hotels on the 192, BUT there are some awful ones too...with I-drive, 90% are owned by the chains and all would be a pretty safe bet! The Plaza end of I-drive is by far the nicer if you can get it! Funny, but we always consider the 192 to have the naff "seaside" town look....strange how peoples opinions differ!

Gone are our hotel days! We now have two under 5s so its a villa for us every time!

Good luck with whatever you book.

On our first DIY trip we stayed at the Travel Lodge that was only two doors up from Wet n Wild, next to a Red Lobster. For a base to use it was ideal, clean, comfortable, a small pool and they made the best Long Island Iced Tea's ever (serious hangover stuff!). It was excellent value for money at the time. Of course it could be a right old flea pit now, but if anyone's been there recently it might be worth asking them how it was.

We stayed at La Quinta a few years ago when it was the Sheraton Lakeside. Can't obviously comment on how the change in ownership has affected things, but back then it was a decent, clean place to stay and pretty good value. Everything generally seemed well maintained and the staff were friendly too and very helpful with answering our questions - it was our first visit, so there were lots of them :D

La Quinta is really popular with Brits, and you get the Flagship benefits as well.

Comments I've seen on here have generally been quite positive.

I agree as long as the room, is clean, functional, and not in a bad location, you don't lose.

Stayed at the Quality Inn International, and Plaza, both good hotels, with clean rooms, at the end of the day you arent getting the room to spend loads of time in it, with all the goings on in WDW and around you spend less time in your room :)
