O.K.- be warned that this review will be long but hopefully interesting. I'm typing this at work so it will proably have to be in two parts!
I specifically wanted to write a review because I fall into a demographic that does not always seem to be heard. I am a 35 yr old guy that acts like a big kid and went with my friend, a 31 yr old guy that is a bit more uptight. I thought our perspective of WDW might be interesting to some, so here goes:
First, off let me say that this was one of the smoothest vacations I have ever been on. Stayed Oct 1-6 at POR and loved the hotel. Very quiet and spacious. Stayed in the Mansion section and had a great room. We arrived around 9:30am on the 1st and immediately boarded our ME transportation and were on our way. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were informed that our room was not ready yet(to be expected) but were given a number to call after 2pm to get our room number. With park tickets in hand we decided to head to Epcot.
Imagine my surprise when we arrived at Epcot and WALKED onto Mission: Space! What a great start. We then proceeded to walk onto every ride we were interested in(with the exeption of Soarin'- we did a Fastpass later in the week). Stopped in Morocco for lunch using the Dining Plan and was amazed at how easy it was. We then proceeded to finish Epcot and returned to the hotel around 3:30pm. Called for our room number and went straight up. Our luggage was waiting, so we showered and changed and headed back to Epcot for our 7pm dinner reservation at Teppanyaki. Had a great meal and then headed out to watch Illuminations. Excellent first day!
Day 2, we were up and out and headed to Animal Kingdom at 9am. Went right to the safari and then headed over to It's Tough to Be a Bug. Along the way, we spotted Devine! You MUST look for her if possible- it was one of the coolest things we saw during our trip :cool1: She was "hiding" against a wall and we just stopped and stared(apparently nobody else had noticed her) A moment later, she lifted her head up and smiled at me and my friend. She then "peeled" herself off the wall and crossed the path(stepping right over my friends head- he's only about 5'6") It was great! We walked onto every ride(LOVED Dinosaur and It's Tough to Be a Bug!) and actually finished the park by 12:30pm! Headed over to MGM to hit a few rides then back to the hotel to change before dinner. Ate at L'Originale Alfredo in Italy(fantastic!) then back to MGM for EMH. Imagine our surprise when we happened to be walking past Fantasmic at around 9:30pm and discovered a special showing for EMH. Walked right in and enjoyed the show. Had a funny experience on the Great Movie Ride- My "group" was a bit dull and not really into the whole thing. Our tour guide, Jennifer, was still doing her best to get everyone involved. I was sitting in the first row so we started having some small talk in between sections. When we reached the end where we were in OZ, she asked the group, "Well, how do you suppose we get out from here?" The group just stared at her, so I decided to help her out. I shouted, "We follow the Yellow Brick Road, Jennifer!" She gave me a relieved look and said, "Thank you, sir. That's right!" She then said, "Sing along everyone, you know the words!" Again, the group just stared like deer in the headlights so I started belting out "Follow the Yellow Brick Road"- just me and Jennifer. At the end of the ride she pulled me aside and gave me a big hug and a thanks! She was a real trooper! We then walked onto TOT and RNR a few times then called it a night. The buses leaving that night were packed- but even then it only took about 25 minutes to get one. This brings me to my first dissapointment: While waiting in the long line to board, a father and mother pushed their two strollers right into the line a few people behind me and proceeded to stand there. The guy they cut in front of said a few words under his breath but nothing more. The line cutter had a very unhappy kid with him(she was probably about 3 or 4 and had apparently dropped something on the way to the bus). He continued to yell at her and tell her "That's what happens when you act stupid! I'm not going back for it, you should have held on to it." The little girl then tried to get out of her stroller and her dad roughly grabbed her, threw her back into the stroller and smacked her a few times. I immediately started to head towards him and my friend grabbed me to try and calm me down. The guy in front of me said he understood, but to not cause a problem or it could get even uglier. He then said, "If he does it again, I'll personally deck him!" The dad then stood in the line with his crying child completely oblivious to the glares he was receiving. I saw this jerk a few more times during my trip, and everytime he was cutting in line or just acting obnoxious! Unbelieveable.......but back to the trip.
Day 3 was MK day. Unfortunately, the park was mobbed. 40-70 minute waits for almost everything. My friend was not feeling too well and we had an early dinner at California Grill so we left the park early and went to relax at the hotel. California Grill was great and we followed that up with a trip to DTD for some shopping(bought a HUGE Pooh for my nephew) and adult beverages.
I'll stop here and post Tuesday and Wednesday later. I will also then vent about all of my issues- mainly with other people :teeth: Time to get back to work!

I'm loking forward to the next installment. Thanks for posting.

O.K. Work is caught up, so time to finish!
On Tuesday, we woke up early and headed to MK. Walked on pretty much everything with the exception of Splash Mountain. Got a Fastpass and returned. Then the ride broke down. Oh, well. We decided we could do it another time(I'll save that story for the end!). After spending all day at MK we went back to the room to shower and change since we had tickets to see Cirque de Soleil- La Nouba at DTD. Whatever you do- do not miss this show! It was awesome. I splurged and purchased the $100 tickets so we were in the middle section(BB seats 215-216). We had an awesome view, but after looking around the theater it really doesn't matter where you sit. You can see everything from all areas so don't waste the money! Then it was off to Pleasure Island for some more adult beverages. Pleasure Island is amazing- we had a ball in the Adventurer's Club(I am NOT a shy person so I jumped right into the action while my friend sat at the bar diverting his eyes). Then we hit 8 Trax so I could reminisce about my long-gone youth in the 80's and then ended up at Mannequins. All in all a great time.
Our last full day was spent hopping to all four parks for some re-rides and to catch a few things we had missed. At Who Wants to Be A Millionaire the CM asked us if it was our first time and then pulled us out of line and gave us a card stating we would be in the "Fastest Finger Seats." I was going out of my mind. I had seen the show and just knew this meant I had a great shot of getting in the "hot seat." My excitement grew as my friend and four of the other "Fastest Finger" selectees all said they were not going to try and win because they were too scared to get in the hot seat! My competition was slowly dwindling and I could just about taste that cruise! Imagine my surprise when we got in the theater and were told EVERYONE would be competing in the Fastest Finger Round to get in the hot seat :rotfl2: Needless to say, I did not make it into the Hot Seat but it was still pretty cool to see everything from out great seats. Then it was back to MK.
We went on a bunch of different rides and had a few last meals before watching Wishes. It was an EMH night at MK so we did my favorite ride for the 5th time(The Haunted Mansion) and finally returned to do Splash Mountain- the only ride we had missed. The CM assigned us to our lane and low and behold the two rows in front of us were occupied by......how to say this nicely.....three size challenged individuals. Needless to say, I knew we were in for a soaking since the front of the boat was packing a lot of weight. Keep in mind, that I am 6'2" and 225 pounds myself so all in all we were pushing the limits of this ride :earseek: The wave that hit us at the end was like something out of "The Perfect Storm." I was drenched from head to toe. I would have been better off just jumping in the water and then getting out. Our entire boat was laughing and clapping and commenting on how Disney would have to refill the ride before anyone else could go on it. A great ending to our last day!
Thursday was spent re-riding Soarin' first thing in the morning and then purchasing some Mickey Ears for the friends at work. Then it was off to the airport and back to Atlantic City! A fantastic trip from beginning to end.
NOW FOR THE COMMENTARY:
These are a few observations/complaints/suggestions I have based on my trip. I'm sure that many of you will not agree with me but that is why it is called an opinion(everyone is entitled to one :goodvibes )
1. Pushy parents with strollers- Your stroller is not registered with the department of motor vehicles nor is it considered a weapon of mass destruction. Please watch where you are going and try not to slam into those of us who are simply walking in front, next to, around or close to you.
2. Control your children- Don't get me wrong...I LOVE kids. I understand how excited they get when they get to WDW but parents need to keep them in check. Please do not let them run around and hit other people or wipe their dirty hands on someone else's shirt(happened to my friend). Also, if you are in a "Theater Style" ride and your child is screaming and crying---Please leave. There will be another show later on. There are other people trying to enjoy the ride as well.
3. Scooters- For those of you who sincerely need a scooter to get around the park, this comment is not directed at you. This is for those people who use the scooter as an excuse to cut in line and ensure a seat on the bus. I actually saw one woman who could not drive her scooter up the bus ramp so she hopped off and PUSHED it up the ramp like it was nothing. Also, I saw several people park their scooters outside and then sprint inside to get a place in line. Be grateful you have four limbs that work and leave the scooters for those people who really need them.
4. The drivers and CM's- These are some of the hardest working and most caring employees I have ever encountered. I work in a casino in A.C. and understand how hard it is to motivate low paid employees. My hat is off to Disney. Every employee we encountered was kind and professional and always willing to offer personal service when possible. One bus driver entertained us during our entire ride by doing impressions(Mickey, Minnie, Donald, President Bush, etc.) It was great!
5. The Dining Plan- A great value(yes, we did not recieve the free dining- we paind) and really convenient. How nice to not have to worry about how much money to carry with you.
6. In general- Everyone should remember that Disney attracts travellers of all ages, demographics, sexes, races, etc. Not all of us are fortunate enough to travel with children and some actually choose NOT to travel with their children :) Regardless, everyone needs to remember that they are not the only ones on vacation. Be respectful of those around you and allow everyone to share in the magic.
If I think of anything else I will be sure to post. Thanks!

Great Post!!

I am a big(literally!!) kid at heart and totally appreciated your thoughts. We will be going with our daughters next summer and can't wait to embarrass them by interacting with CM's & guests! The man who stopped you from decking the dad is to be commended...you don't know how it could have turned out. That dad on the other hand needs to be hung by his you know whats!!

I agree parents need to control their children....inside and out of WDW....disrespect seems to be rampant everywhere.

Just wanted to say what a great report and glad that you had a good time, despite certain other people. Yes, i would have wanted to have words with that father too and I am a stressed out mother of 3, but nothing excuses that behaviour.
Thanks so much for your insightful report,

Claire xx

Thank you first of all for a truly great report and I agree 100% with your input on the handling of strollers, children, scooters and in general anyone who tries to put a damper on the Happiest Place on Earth!! I'm a mother of five (ages 12 to 27) and I tried always to be thoughtful and caring of others when traveling with my kids. I've had to bite my tongue on many occasion when out in public especially concerning parents vs kids - glad to know it didn't spoil your trip entirely!

Great big hug goes to the awesome CM's :grouphug: We  you all!!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

I did love to read your observation from your view point and you and your friend acomplished so much during a busy, hot and humid week!
I just finished reading your report and have to comment on your observations as I to have just returned from the world. We were there from 10-4 thru 10-10, 2 mothers and 4 children! And I will say the comments on the scooters is absolutely correct.. I have never seen it so bad as I did this trip. Infact, my daughter had her heel ran over by a gentleman who just rode down the middle of the bridge and then demanded that we owe him an appoligy, I will not get in to details, since it was the lowest point of the trip,, but I will say this,,, I find it unfair that I wait in a line for 15-20 min waiting for a bus with 4 kids and along comes a scooter and they get on the bus first and never have to wait! And not only do they get on first,, but so does the rest of the family, including 2 strollers, and 6 kids and a dozen other adults traveling with them., That to me is unfair and everyone regardless of their diability should have to wait in the SAME line as the rest of us vacationing at Disney! O.k. Off my soap box...

I was sorry to hear that people are still using strollers and scooters as battering rams. On my trip last Oct. I was witness to several near misses and a couple collisions, especially with the scooters. One of the more serious incidents was at the mass exodus leaving MK after the fireworks when I saw a woman knocked off her feet. I understand that these devices are wonderful for people with mobility issues and allow them to enjoy the parks at a greater level, but with the amount of small children in close proximity, extra care really needs to be taken. Many times I felt like I was crossing busy streets in downtown Chicago without a traffic light. :scared:

Great trip report. I enjoyed reading it. I agree with everything you said regarding scooters, strollers, etc... I'm glad that you and your friend had a great trip!! :flower:

I couldn't agree with you more! I've noticed on my past couple of trips that a few people seem to act like they're the only ones who paid for (and deserve) their vacation. Well said! Great trip report!!

When we were @ WDW in august a very nasty woman in an ECV almost ran my DD6 over. She stopped long enough to ash her cigarette (I'm not kidding, in the middle of Fantasyland) and screech "Watch where your going kid!". My daughter looked at me completely non-plussed and asked: "Mom, is that Ursula?" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
