Hi all,
I actually got the call at home about this last night, long before the media knew about it.One of the guys is said to have a carear ending injury, you can imagine what that means. Both these men suffered, multible fractures in both legs and one has a severly cushed leg that will require more than one or two surgerys if they can save the leg at all. This was a horrible accident.Spoke to a friend of mine who is also on the job and was at the scene and then the hospital with these guys,The story goes like this, both these guys were standing just behind the rig and a taxi cab rear ending the rig pinning these men between the rig and the cab.

A cab driver rear-ended a firetruck injuring two firefighters. They suffered broken legs.
Two New York City firefighters are recovering from severe injuries after a cab driver rear-ended their fire truck late Wednesday. Police say the firefighters were hit on Columbus Ave. and 71st St. Both men suffered broken legs. The driver walked away...

How terrible :guilty: Prayers for them both :grouphug:

Can you let me know what station they were from? My best friend from high schools brother is a FDNY in Brooklyn. I actually lived in LI for 10 years and them moved to VA. So I like to keep informed about NY news. TIA!!

That's awful!
How big does the truck have to be before someone sees it? Did they say why the driver hit the truck?

My thoughts are with them and their families... hoping for a quick recovery!

Hi,
Both men worked rescue 1 in manhattan, this is a special unit.Thier sole mission at big jobs or runs is rescue of FDNY guys hurt or trapped. As the saying goes when people get in trouble they call the FDNY,when Fdny guys get in trouble they call the rescue unit . There are 6 rescue rigs, rescue 1 thru rescue 6,each boro has 1 except manhattan when they have 2 after sept 11.I prefer not to list thier names until the media or FDNY does, since the reason why thier names have not been released is because thier whole familys might not know yet, since this happened very late last night and it is still very early.Anyhow i only know thier first names as of now.

Thier rig makes a fire truck look small,it is a special operations rig and its big.The rumor i heard right now,is that the cab driver passed a drug and booze test and was found not to have any of this stuff in his system, however first reports say that this guy was chatting away on his hand held cell phone,if so the law in nyc is that no hand held cell phones are allowed to be use while driving. Its sad,but it just looks like a horible accident as of now, from what i heard the cabbie was a mess at the scene, crying and so upset over this whole thing.

That's really sad. I've seen so many "near misses" due to people being on their cell phones! :furious:

Prayers being said for the firemen and their families.

How awful! I will remember these firefighters in my prayers. I am glad to hear that the cabbie wasn't under the influence, and I feel sorry for him as well--he must feel so guilty.

That is so sad. My prayers are with them and their families.

How sad and tragic for them. :(

Thoughts and prayers are with them and theirs.

How very sad. :sad2: My thoughts are with them and thier families. :grouphug:

Oh my God! This sounds just like what happened to two of our city workers in the area. The were doing some routine sewer maintenance and a girl talking on her cell phone slammed into the back of them pinning them between her car and their truck. One man lost both of his legs and the other has more pins and rods in his than you can imagine. My brother is helping to run a big fund raiser for these two guys there is so much they now need. Our prayers are with them.

:sad1:

Good thoughts for the men and their familys. :grouphug:

God bless them and their families. :grouphug:

My thoughts and prayers to the two firefighters, and families. My friend was working on Rescue 1 when this accident took place. My prayers to him, and all the members of Rescue 1 who had to witness this horrible crash!
