So, I'm leaving Sat morning and I AM SICK. Last Thursday my DS started with a 102 temp, headache, sore throat and belly ache. No prolem, still a week left to go. He bounced back. Fast forward Tue night, I start with nausea and HA, and then scratchy throat started. I am still not feeling right, feel worse tonight. No fevers but feel exhausted. I am Sooooo stressing about our trip now. My daughter ended up with a 101 temp today but she also seems fine, not too crabby. She is playing all evening. I hope she bounces back too! Have any of you guys had this happen and if so, any words of wisdom???????

Stressing out,
Karen

Ahh you sound like me!! We leave and get there on Saturday and I'm showing the same symptoms as you. Go to the doctor if you can and see if there's any medication he can prescribe. If not, REST, a lot!! Take lots of vitamins and drink Airborne or Emergency (yes, these drinks are supposed to prevent illness but they're filled with vitamins!). This is about all I can give to you except words of encouragment: You will get better before Saturday! Even if you don't you'll have an amazing time at Disney (make sure to take lots of breaks). Try to let go of the stress of the trip- it's only hurting you. Feel better and have a magical time!

I would get some Zicam and Advil...are you flying or driving? Hopefully you feel better before Sat. Good luck!

I'm flying. I am hoping I feel better soon. I just can't believe I get sick now when none of us were sick all winter! I know things could be worse but I am just so looking forward to enjoying this trip. I'm going to try to suck it up and just grin and bear it. :confused3 Keep your fingers crossed & send some pixie dust my way.

I would go the doctor immediately, if it is something bacterial, he can probably give you an antibiotic shot. Those usually start working within 24 hours. (although, sometimes going to the doctor's office is a gamble in itself, you may come out of there with something you did not have when you went it in. :scared: )

Also, get some rest if you can. If your children are old enough, do some "armchair quarterbacking" and have them do the packing while you supervise from the couch or bed.

And above everything else, don't stress out.

I hope you have a fun trip.

Hope you feel better! My whole family had a viral lung infection that wasn't diagnosed until the day after I left on my first solo trip in March, and guess what? I started coughing up a lung on the second day of my trip, and I hadn't even had symptoms before I left. My best advice - take lots of medicine with you, for any problem imaginable. I spent half of my 'fun' money on medicine at the Pop gift shop just to get me by for three days before I could get home and get the antibiotics I needed. Still had a great trip, but would have been better if I had brought proper medicine from home.
Of course, seeing the castle is better than any pill you could ever take!:goodvibes

Agreed :)! Nothing like some Disney magic to get over being sick :)!

Take whatever you THINK you might need just in case. All of that stuff can be very expensive at Disney and you don't want to put yourself in a position of picking between a great pair of mouse ears or a bottle of Advil. Get plenty of rest before hand and pump some of that Airborne or something with a hefty dose of Vitamin C. It might help pump up your immune system and let it burn through that illness faster.

Best of luck to ya :)!

I hope you and your daughter feel better and get well soon. Have a great trip! If possible I would try to go to the DR. it's easier to treat something when you know what you have. My DD had strep throat 2 days before our Disney trip last June. Got some antibiotics, she took them every morning of our trip. She was fine

I would at least call the doctor's office and tell them you are leaving for a vacation Sat. and you and your family have been sick this week. My husband and I went on a kids-free vacation this past Dec. and he got sick the week before we were leaving. He called the doctor and she had him come in to be checked out and prescribed him some antibiotics to take. He took them on our trip and was fine.

Good luck. Hope you all feel well soon and have a magical trip!!!

Thanks for all your words of wisdom. I think its viral, my son got better without antibiotics. I'm a nurse, work at a hospital and know my docs very well. They are very stingy with antibiotics so are my kids' pediatricians. I'd have a tough time convincing any of them we need antibiotics at this point. My daughter seems fine, a little tired, so am I. But I have to admit, I am feeling better. I think I needed to let my GI tract rest a little. I bought some Alka Seltzer (boy that is nasty stuff) and some Ginger root and the nausea seems to have eased. I hope we enjoy Disney and I will be making sure everyone washes their hands frequently. Thanks again!!!!!

Read on the board that you can ask for a tub of the antibacterial wipes for your stateroom if your interested. Glad to hear your better today.

When ever I go on vacation, I bring meds, and antibiotics! Always. so if some one gets sick, I am covered. thank god for antibiotics since my kid got an ear infection once on a trip and we had some with us. he was fine the next day :)
zycam is our best friend ( the kind you swab your nose with) my kids have not had colds in a year!
I have one, because I thought it was a nasel infection  so did not use the zycam. OYE
Any ways, always pack extra meds, for colds, flu or antibiotics!

It is very easy to stress and run around preparing for vacation. Be sure that you only do the bare minimum that you need to to get you and your family prepared for vacation. Then rest.

Research has shown that Vitamin D in large doses is even better than vit. C, I take up to 4000 units sometimes up to 5000 in the winter since I didn't do the flu shot this last winter. It's great for you! And it can't harm you by taking large amounts of this, you just pee out what you don't need.
I think once you get there you'll get a dose of Disney and you'll forget all about being sick. :yay:
Be blessed and have a maigical trip!

I hope you're all feeling better very soon :wizard: . You might want to take along the phone numbers of local (to Disney) pharmacies and the hours they are open (and if any deliver). The info below was current as of last May, so you should check to see if it's still the same.

Centra Care Walk In 407-239-6463
LBV Centra Care 407-934-2273 (M-F 8AM-mid, S/S 8-8)
(Crossroads Shopping Ctr & Hotel Plaza Blvd)
Turner Pharm. 407-828-8125

Also take the phone number of your home dr and pediatrician, in case you need them to call something in for you.

Those zicam gel swabs are the best. They have stopped me from really getting sick a couple of times.
