1 day at MK and 1 day at AK? We are vacationing in Boca Raton at the end of April. We decided to drive up to Orlando for 3 nights and will have 2 days to do parks. We have a 5.5 year old, 3 year old, and our little one will have just turned a year. Our plan is to book a Disney vacation for October 2010, but wanted to have a small dose trial run since we were only 3 hours away in Boca. Would you do 2 days at MK or would you do 1 day MK and 1 day AK? Which would you do first? Our 5.5 year old and 3 year old love rides, but are also big animal lovers. Thanks for any thoughts -

honestly, we do long weekends from s. fl all the time. what works for us is being relaxed about it. also-when DS was younger-we did really only a 1/2 day at park, came back for pool/naps and did dinner which he sometimes slept through in his stroller. i might just stick with MK, book CP for a meal, do fantasyland/toon town. then the next day do a little adventureland, people watching. lots of decent resort meals with disney feel. also at that age-even though you have a car-the boat, monorail, bus ride is in itself a great adventure.

also DTD has the lego store, word of disney, t-rex, rainforest cafe, ghirardelli's etc.

I agree. I will take two days for you to feel like you really got a good trip out of MK especially if this is the kids first visit. With their ages they will probably really like MK and won't know what they are missing at AK.

Since you plan to go back in October, I would do one day at each. It sounds as if your kids would like both, and it will also give them more reference points when you start to talk about your longer trip. They'll know what to expect, and you'll have a better idea of exactly what they end up drawn to.

I would do AK the first day, as that closes earlier, and allow for a good night's sleep. Then do MK second, as it has the potential to be a longer day. (I wouldn't force it it to be, of course, with the other trip coming up - but you'll have a little more flexibility to stay late if things are sailing along well, because the kids would be able to get an extra nap in the next morning on the drive back to Boca.)

Personally, we liked MK best, but my 3yo at the time loved some of the rides at AK, but to me that area of AK was much more like Six Flags. She enjoyed the safari and I loved seeing the tree, but I would skip AK next time since we have seen it. If I had the time you have, I would spend it at MK and hit AK when you are there longer.

I would do MK on the first day and AK the 2nd day. If you are planning to return soon after this visit, this will help you get an idea for these 2 parks. i think every first time trip shoudl start at MK....but that is just my opinion....it is so magical and from our first trip I wanted my kids first memory to be MK...the castle, characters, rides, shows, etc....

AK Lodge is a great place to visit. I fyou decide not to go to teh aprk, you can always visit the lodge / resort and eat there or see the animals there. It is not quite the same as the park buit it gives you an idea of the park. This is our FAVORITE resort!!!

Suggestion...the earlier you arrive at the parks, the more stuff you can get done b4 the crowds get too bad...especially at MK. If you book a character breakfast (The Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends ot Cinderellas Royal Table in the Castle) or Bibbiddi Bobbiddi Boutique reservation, you can enter the park for those reservations as early as 8 am...fyi...if you are a morning person :)
