2 Adults, DDP, 12 TS/11 CS Restaurants, and Our First Dining Report! Final Rankings!

Oh no! :rotfl: We're staying at the YC in 11 days and I thought we could get breakfast at BC marketplace some morning, but now I don't think I'll waste the money...:thumbsup2

Love the pic's and the reviews by the way!

We're going to YC in 8 days!!!!!

Love, love, LOVE Tutto! It's easily become our favorite restaurant in Epcot. You can count on superb service and delicious food, every time.

The dessert you had, the gelato and berries with chocolate, is hands down my favorite!

I've heard that Via Napolini is much like Naples in Anaheim, as far as menu goes, so I can't wait to hear your take on that one as well.

I loved your review of Tutto, we'll be eating there Saturday night! I was a little bit concerned as I've heard a lot of bad reviews from there too, but your dishes look wonderful! Now I'm very excited to eat there.

I think there are mixed reviews for every restaurant. Maybe we'll end up having a bad experience at Tutto someday, too, but this one was fantastic! I hope every DISer at least gives it a chance.

Oops!! Freudian slip of the Italian restaurants - I've been interested to try Via Napoli, so it's been on my mind!

Let's try this again...TUTTO ITALIA looks great!!! Glad to see you had a good time there!! :thumbsup2 I haven't eaten in the Italy pavillion since Alfredo was there, seems as though it is worth a visit!

We'll see how VN holds up to the greatness of Tutto. We'll be eating at VN on the last day of our upcoming trip, which was not a good day for us on the last trip, so I hope that doesn't affect our opinion of the meal.

I wouldn't waste my money there, but you should still go check it out and see if you even like the look of the food. You can see some of it in the glass case. I would highly recommend heading over to the Boardwalk Bakery across the lake. They have a lot of great breakfast foods.

Whoo-hoo!!! :thumbsup2 We loved YC! Enjoy!

I've heard that Via Napolini is much like Naples in Anaheim, as far as menu goes, so I can't wait to hear your take on that one as well.

We've eaten at Naples, although not in quite a while. I'm just interested to see if VN can rise above being a glorified California Pizza Kitchen.

Omg! I can't wait to go! Accuweather better be wrong about the extended forecast too! It says rain every day we're there. :scared1:

I would say any forecast further out than 5 days can't really be counted on. The weather in Florida changes so often! Our extended forecast from our last trip originally predicted a lot of rain, but it only rained one day of our 10 days, then rained as we were leaving. Try not to worry!

Oh no! :scared1: I hope not! I need to experience Stormalong Bay and all it's glory! :)

SB is great! As long as it's not pouring rain, the heated water is perfect in any kind of weather.

On our way out of Epcot on 12/10, we picked up 3 amazing pastries from the Boulangerie in France. We thoroughly enjoyed them on our balcony for breakfast the next morning.

DH is holding the chocolate croissant that we'd already started eating before realizing we needed to take pictures:

Both this one and the chocolate croissant from the Boardwalk Bakery earlier in the week were equally good. You really can't go wrong with a chocolate croissant.

I think this is the Sacristain:

I think it had chocolate inside and out, but I can't remember. All I remember is how tasty it was.

Finally, there was the Pithivier:

Almond on top, almond filling inside. Very sweet, but we loved it.

In fact, all three pastries were uber-sweet, but sooooooo good! Really great use of snack credits. We fully intend to go back later this month :yay:

I have lost the receipt for our lunch at the Tangerine Cafe, but not the pictures. I'm glad we squeezed this in on our last day, since we both like Mediterranean food of any type.

Not a huge selection at the main counter, but they seemed to have a nice selection of coffee/tea at a smaller counter off to the side (we didn't get anything there).

Given the choices, I ordered the lamb/chicken combo plate:

DH doesn't like lamb, so his plate just had chicken. This pic is basically the same as the one above, but without the lamb:

The meat on both plates was very tasty. I thought the lamb had a lot of flavor and was really tender. The rest of the food was typical of that kind of cuisine, except we weren't expecting the fatter pita bread. Usually we see the thinner kind. Maybe that is pita done Morrocan style?

I'm pretty sure we both had fountain drinks, btw. Iced tea for me, and whatever DH decided on. There is no dessert choice, so here's a pic of our baklavas:

Anyone that's ever had baklava knows it's really sticky and sweet. This was no exception. I've rarely had a baklava I didn't like, so this was good, although I don't think we finished them because we'd already eaten a lot of food.

Overall rating? A good amount of food for a CS credit, but I'm not sure if we would return again, simply because it wasn't any more outstanding than that same type of food where we live.

Before I get to the review, I have to give a little bit of backstory for that evening, since it affected the meal.

Sometime earlier in the day, we were walking through the American Pavilion, and saw that they had these little prairie dog stuffed animals on clearance. Combine that with our AP discount, and I think the doll was about $5. So, I got one, and named him Eddie (after Edoardo, our awesome Tutto waiter). I carried Eddie in my sweatshirt for the rest of the night. Here's a picture of Eddie peeking out from my sweatshirt:

Then we made the horrible decision to head over to MK for a bit before going back to Epcot and our 8:10pm ADR at Akershus. It was incredibly crowded at MK, so we walked around for a bit, then left. We had about 45 mins. to get from MK to Akershus, but apparently that wasn't nearly enough time. When we walked out of the MK front gates, I saw the boat to the TTC was there, so I made the bad decision to run over to it. The boat was just about to leave, and they weren't letting anyone else on. Instead of going to the monorail, we waited for the next boat. Another mistake, since that took quite a while. We knew we'd have to make a mad dash to the Epcot monorail as soon as we exited the boat. Well, we did that, and sometime during the dash, I lost Eddie :sad1: I only noticed it when we were already on the Epcot monorail.

By that point, I was cold, tired, frustrated, and upset. I told DH I couldn't run any more, so he made the second dash from the monorail exit to Akershus. I think he checked in about 5-10 mins. late. However, the host wouldn't even officially check him in until I was there, because they do the picture with Belle (or another princess) when you enter, so the entire party has to be there. I got there around 8:25. We were in the last seating of the night.

After our picture with Belle (which turned out surprisingly nice, considering I was so unhappy), we sat down and ordered. As soon as we did that, DH left to go get me a replacement Eddie. I couldn't believe he went all the way to America and back to Norway for me! Anyway, in his absence, I had to get the cold plates.

Here's mine:

I've heard a lot of complaints about some of the fish at the cold buffet, but I really liked it. In fact, the cold buffet was really the highlight of the meal for me. I loaded up on meat, cheese, herring, smoked salmon w/capers, veggies, and a roll.

I knew what DH would and wouldn't eat, so his plate is a little more sparse:

He ate most of it...once he got back from his journey.

Despite the fact that our waiter, Joergen, assured us we would have plenty of time to eat the cold buffet before the princesses came around, they were there right when I got back from getting the plates, so DH missed a couple. He was fine with that, though. We'd met Snow White earlier in our trip, and he wasn't terribly interested in the princesses anyway. Here are the princess pics:

As you can see, DH had made it by the time Ariel came around. Some of these pics were taken by the waitstaff, so that's why the quality varies. I especially like my Pee Wee shirt in the pic with Ariel

For our main course, we both ordered the Kjottake:

This looks better than it tasted. The lingonberry sauce was good, but the rest wasn't that great. Maybe it was because we were both tired, or maybe it just wasn't good. We chose it because it was supposedly a traditional dish, and it looked like one of the better options, but it was disappointing.

And here's the dessert plate:

No complaints here. The puff pastry with marscapone filling was perfect, the rice pudding with berry topping was great, and the chocolate mousse was rich and delicious. We ate it all :)

Illuminations was going off right as we started dessert. A couple of groups went outside to watch, but then came back to finish their meals. DH told me he was really worried when he came back from getting my new Eddie, since the front door was open when he left, and closed when he came back, but I guess it was still unlocked.

Total w/o DDP? $93.70 (this is estimate from the menu prices on All Ears, since I don't have a receipt with the price).

Atmosphere? We sat in one of the side rooms. The inside was castle-like, but honestly I barely noticed because of my mood. Seemed nice enough...we give it a 3.

Service? Joergen and the other staff were very polite, and the food was fast. A 4 overall.

Food? I give it a 3, DH says 2 1/2. The main course was a let-down.

Overall rating? This is a character meal, and I rarely hear anyone say they went to a character meal for the food. That being said, we won't be going back until we have kids and they want to meet the princesses.

Glad to hear you had a better experience than us at Tangierine Cafe! And your pastries from France look great! :goodvibes

Don't know how I managed to miss this one but I have just caught up and read your whole review

Great photos :goodvibes

I am going to be trying quite a few of the places that you ate so it's got me really excited :cool1:

Just looking at my own pastry pictures makes my mouth water :rotfl: Time to go back!

Thanks for joining in! Hope your experiences at the restaurants are as good as ours were :goodvibes

For our final meal, I had booked a breakfast ADR at Cape May. This was an OOP meal. When I booked it, I had thought of how nice it would be to have a full breakfast on our last morning, and one that was basically in the same resort we were staying at (we were at YC). Unfortunately, I felt sick to my stomach the night before, and still wasn't feeling great that morning. In retrospect, maybe we should've canceled, but I was stubborn about it.

We had a 9:25am ADR, arrived about 5 mins. early, got a buzzer, and were seated right on time. Since we'd never been there before, our host explained the buffet locations a bit. We saw some families walking up without an ADR, and they weren't turned away, but it was a 30 min. wait.

Since I didn't really feel like eating, I chose simple foods, oatmeal and fruit:

Actually, the first picture is both of our bowls of oatmeal. The one thing I really loved was the grapefruit slices. I love grapefruit, and rarely see it as a fruit option at a buffet. The grapefruit juice I ordered? Not so much. It was waaaay too sweet for my taste, and it was the same as what I could get in any bottle from the store.

DH sampled some of the other offerings:

He said it was good...not great, but good.

Here are our character pics:

Where's Donald? Well, Donald decided to blow us off. He sort of started to move towards DH when he came by our table, but just as we started to say hi, he kept moving. He had a "favorite" table near us, and seemed to spend a lot of time there. In fact, we saw a couple of other tables where he didn't spend much time. Should we have told our waitress or someone else? Yes, but I was just tired and feeling gross. Plus, we'd already done pics with Donald on the trip, so we let it go.

Total cost? $48.97 before tip.

Atmosphere? Nothing special here, and the character interaction was so-so. This is a 2.

Service? Our waitress was pleasant, but not particularly nice. She wasn't always available, either. 2 1/2

Food? Honestly, I wish I could've eaten more. It seemed like they had a great selection of breakfast foods. But, since we really didn't get to fully enjoy it, all we can give is 3 1/2.

Overall rating? Not sure if we would go back...probably not, since we are more interested in food than characters. 75% chance of no return.

When issues like the character spending more time of a table might come up, I try to think why would that happen. I might think it was a MAKE A WISH meal that a child or adult wants to see their favorite characters. It might have even been that characters family. If I do not know the back story-- if there is one-- I to might feel left out. I have my favorite disney characters and even at my age a HUG is a wonderful thing.

Disclaimer:

I have no idea why the character spent more time at a table, but actually saying something the waitress might even know if there is a reason.

We didn't go to the character breakfast, but the Cape May Cafe dinner was a bit disappointing on our last trip (it used to be one of our favorites, but the food quality seemed to be going downhill, and the buffet stations were pure chaos). It's too bad you weren't able to enjoy your last-day breakfast (we had our check-out day breakfast close to home at the YC too, at the Captain's Grille). The fruit does look good though - we were really surprised to keep finding such great fruit throughout our trip, especially since it was December!

Thanks for the Cape May review, great pictures as always

Sorry your weren't feeling so great :sad2:

Yeah, had we told our server about it, Donald probably would've come back, or at least we would've gotten some explanation. We just weren't in the mood.

Every time we walked by Cape May at night, the fish smell was overpowering, and unfortunately it wasn't really that appealing to us. I enjoy all types of fish, but DH only likes shellfish. He disliked the smell a lot more than I did. We might try their dinner buffet someday, but not on the next trip.

Thanks for the Cape May review, great pictures as always

Sorry your weren't feeling so great :sad2:

Thank you for the compliments :) It was kind of a bummer to feel sick on the last day. I'm hoping that doesn't happen on the next trip, since our last meal is at Via Napoli.

Sadly, our Dining Review is over :sad1: But, we still want to give our rankings of the TS and CS restaurants, based on our overall opinion, especially looking back on it now. DH might disagree a little (I will let you all know if he does), but here's how we rank our dining experiences:

Table Service Restaurants
#1 - Rose & Crown (DH still won't shut up about the sweet potato pillow)
#2 - Tutto Italia (excellent food, excellent service)
#3 - Le Cellier (I loved it more than DH, but still great)
#4 - Coral Reef (surprisingly nice food and service)
#5 - Boma (can't beat the food!)
#6 - Les Chefs de France (soup and dessert were mmmmmm)
#7 - Raglan Road (food was pretty good, but we were having that bad night)
#8 - Teppan Edo (I wasn't impressed, but we had an ok time)
#9 - Biergarten (food was fine, but it's just not our thing)
#10 - Akershus (cold buffet and desserts were the best parts)
#11 - Sci-Fi Dine-In (only go here for the atmosphere)
#12 - Cape May (food was fine, but again, not for us)

Counter Service Restaurants
#1 - Flame Tree BBQ (fantastic use of CS credits!)
#2 - Wolfgang Puck Express (gourmet food for CS credits)
#3 - Sassagoula Floatworks (huge amount of food, and it was gooooood)
#4 - Tangerine Cafe (not very friendly people, but the food was good)
#5 - Sunshine Seasons (pretty good food, but I think I over-hyped it in my mind)
#6 - Yakitori House (udon was totally worth it...sushi wasn't)
#7 - Contempo Cafe (food was good, but nothing extraordinary)
#8 - Columbia Harbour House (not impressed with the food)
#9 - Yorkshire County Fish Shop (too much breading on the fish, but the fries were great)
#10 - Beach Club Marketplace (ew)

Although Beaches & Cream is technically a CS restaurant, we didn't eat a full meal there, so I didn't include it in our rankings.
