We will be at Disney in a little more than two weeks; yacht club-garden view. It will be me, my husband, our 4 year old and our 18 month old twins. Per the cast member's suggestion, we requested a 1 queen, 1 day bed, 1 twin configuration so that we have more room for the two cribs that we requested for the twins.

We just got back from another vacation and between this experience and other recent out of town experiences, there is a very apparent issue with one of my twins not sleeping through the night when not at home. Routine has been mostly the same in terms of nap, brought their favorite loveys, etc. but every night he either wakes up and takes 1.5 hours at least to get back to sleep or on a very rare occasion will sleep though the night but will wake up earlier than usual.

I don't know why it has taken me this long to realize this behavior of his, maybe because it leaves me so tired and forgetful. :)

I am now dreading this trip for fear of him interfering with the entire family's ability to get good sleep. I am likely going to get travel black out curtains to take just in case that could help in any way. I thought about seeing if I can put his crib in the bathroom/sink area and maybe hang a make shift curtain/divider but then what happens when we need to use the bathroom? I also am not sure of the configuration of the room to know if there even is a quasi-separate area to put him in. I also thought about sticking his crib right next to my side of the bed so if he wakes up, hopefully he will see me before he gets too upset.

If anyone has any tips or advice/experience that they can share it would be much appreciated. I love Disney and we are spending a lot of money to go so I hate that I am now even partly dreading it. Also, my husband is already dreading this trip so I am hoping to show him a better time than expected and would hate for this to make it worse. If it helps we are definitely napping/pool time in the middle of every day so I have no expectations to keep anyone running ragged all day.

Thank you!!!

I have never heard of this configuration in any of the Disney resorts--specifically the twin bed part.

Have you considered switching to a suite, either at Yacht Club (expensive!) or a different resort?

I called and no availablity. Unfortunately I didn’t have this epiphany until this past vacation so didn’t call far enough out for there to be one available.

I believe the twin bed is a chair futon type thing.

Not sure what kind of vacation you took prior but I know when my oldest was 15 months she just passed out with the lights on!

It was the best sleep she ever had. She was never a good sleeper and at 17 she still wakes up to pee.

I kept to a Disney schedule, we were out of the room between 7-7:30, already ate breakfast in the room. Returned after lunch for naps, showered, returned to parks til closing.

I am not a great sleeper and up until our August trip was up “all night” and don’t easily fall asleep. Half the nights I don’t even recall plugging my phone in and turning on my alarm.

All else fails, what about bribery!

The sink area is separated from the room by a barn door. You could put his crib in that area and shut the door. Only problem is the toilet and shower are in that area as well.

Oh man wouldn’t that be awesome.

Wonderful to know that it is at least an option. Thank you.

If you can get a room at Yacht club that is in the dog building on an upper floor that faces the woods, you'll find it remains quite dark there due to the trees. It also faces west. We aren't a stranger to sticking a kid in the bathroom for the night. Whatever gets the job done. Sound machines might help deter any startle noises. We have one from Homedics. Others prefer to use their favorite electronic device and app.

I just bought a homedics machine. Thank you. Fingers crossed.

I have stayed in a queen, daybed, twin sleeper chair room at the Yacht Club but it was a handicapped accessible room with a roll-in shower. The bathroom was larger, to accommodate my being in a wheelchair but there was not a separate sink area from the shower and toilet, everything was in the same room.

Are there, possibly, any 1-bedroom villas available anywhere on property? - Beach Club Villas or Boardwalk Villas would still keep you in the EP area. That would give you a bedroom with a king bed, a separate living room. It might help to give you some separate space.

I would keep checking for a suite, maybe a family suite at AOA or an All Star resort. That being said, I only have two kids, and we stopped all sharing one room years ago. I can't sleep with that many others in the room, even family!

I'd also rent two real cribs from somewhere like A Baby's Best Friend; my sister did that once when her youngest was 11 months old at Disney. It's much better than a pack & play, with a real mattress, bumper pads, sheets, etc.

Good luck!

we have three kids- an older and twins about 4 years younger..kids seemed to sleep better at DW then home (wear them out!)
