We are planning on buying and using our AP's this fall. Our 2 year old will be 3 in Jan. Do we buy him an AP then? I'm a little confused.

Amy

I would wait til he actually turns 3. No need to buy him one before he needs it.

Can you just see us now....."Let's take another trip before Zachary's AP runs out!" Even though we'd all have to buy new ones!;)

That is what we were going to do! We bought out APs before my little one needed one. When she turned 3 we bought hers. Ours expires in May, hers in October. So we were planning on going then too. Turns out we renewed ours last week so now we have extended to yet another trip next May. A vicious circle it is! LOL!

Terry....that's exactly what I'm afraid of!!!

We are planning on getting AP's this time too. Although we will have to buy 4 adult (dh, me, ds 16, ds 12) and a childs. Ds #3 just turned 3 in Feb. Im sad free days are over for him but glad we will all have the same exp date. Because I'm already wanting to get 2 or 3 trips out of my AP's, lol. I told dh our trips after the first would almost be going for free since we will already have our tickets and we are DVC members.

Just do the math. I believe you have to go 8 or 9 times to get your return on a AP. I'd look at a park hopper unless the math works. If you have days left on his hopper you can always have that applied to future AP or hopper purchases.

That would be days not trips. One site had something about an AP paying for itself in 10 park days. A premium AP is something like 15 park days. We got 35 park days out of our AP so it really only cost us about $12 a day to go to WDW!

I have been researching every combination of tickets imaginable. According to AllEarsNet the AP breaks even around 8 days, the PAP at 11. We have 3 sure trips...Dec/Jan this year, Mar 04, Oct 04. But DH parents have a winter home in Sarasota that we are planning to visit during the summers...so I'm sure we'll get some days in. I've used a minimum # of 10 park days over our 3 planned trips, with a few trips to water parks/Disney Quest. So I'm thinking we'll go with the PAP's for everyone....we'll just buy Zachary's after he turns 3.

Wow! 35 park days!!! That's amazing! Do you guys fly down from Maryland? It only takes us 10 hours from here so I imagine we could squeak in little trips when the rates are right!

We usually drive as I hate to fly. We take our time getting there though and usually take 3 days getting there, 10-12 days at WDW, then 3 days getting back. We love stopping over and doing nothing but eating out and relaxing. We do fly sometimes though and will be flying in October. I will certainly miss our numerous pitstops on 95 though!

I would talk to guest relations about the possibiity of getting a pro-rated AP for your son so that the expiration date match yours. I've heard of them doing pro-rates when special offers were out for Florida residents, they would allow cancellations of current AP's and applying the credit to a new one. It's worth a shot!
