2/15/2013 - 8 Night Western Cruise, Galveston, TX

My husband and I are from the league city area and will be on this cruise with two 16yo. We are looking forward to this cruise as it will be our first! Anyone else from our area going on this cruise?

Welcome to the cruise meet! We're from Sugar Land - on the complete other side of town, but still from the area. :wave2:

Weather is looking better and better -- High of 66 now and sunny for next Friday, and 80 with some clouds for our WDW day. (I'm hoping that comes down a little bit, or at least stays cloudy!)

Yahoo!!!! As long as it doesn't get too warm for sail away...better to be cold than foggy!!!!

I keep chanting "fog, fog, stay away and don't come back until debarkation day!" :rotfl2:

NOOOOO!! :scared1: As much as I would love more time on the Magic, we have a 12:45pm flight from HOU on Saturday and I don't want to deal with the hassle if we miss it!

I told my son's teacher we were going on the trip today. I thought she was going to give me a hard time but she didn't. This is such huge weight off my shoulders!! Hoping to get through 4 days of work next week with no problems. Plus my DH really needs the break too. His workload has been crazy.

I too had been worried about the reaction from school, but actually got a thank you from my oldest sons teacher for letting her know in advance so that she could plan for his teacher/parent conference when we return as we will miss the normally schduled times while on the cruise. I also think it helped that my boys will only miss 3 days of school due to them only having 2 days the full week they will be out.

Now I just need to get busy and get ready to go. :dance3:

Drat! Forgot about that! Ok, will settle for no fog on departure day. :)

I was thinking about something today and thought I'd share for those folks who haven't sailed before. They have soda/juice machines up on deck nine so you can go and get drinks whenever you want; however, they don't have straws or lids due to the hazards they pose if they blow overboard. My 3-year-old struggles drinking out of a cup with no straw so we're bringing a cup for her to use while out and about. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else has little ones with the same problem. :)

Ok, just found one more thing. It's a dining tips blog post with a lot of great tips. Gina's tip about the snacks in Cove Cafe is on there but there were a few other good ones as well. :)

does anyone have good tips on product for detangler product for hair?? I have long, thick hair and I wanted to know what's best product to use since salt water is much different than going to a pool. Its been a while since we have been to a beach. any tips would be appreciated! :)

Hey - I thought I read somewhere that you could bring your own bottles of wine on board - but now I can't find that. Any of you seasoned travelers know the rules on that! I so can't wait!!

I asked the same question a few pages back. The official info from Disney is quoted there but I don't remember exactly where it is! The gist of it is that anyone over 21 can carry on as much wine as will fit in their carry on (has to be specific dimensions...basically airline standard dimensions I think). They charge a corking fee if you bring it to the restaurants and I think it said that you couldn't take opened bottles back off the ship.

Hope this helps! :)

Our doorbell is When You Wish Upon a Star - same as the ship's horn. My husband now rings the doorbell each time he comes up to the front door.

Love this! I wish there was a "like" button like FB.

I'm not a weather expert - how does a higher temperature increase the chance of fog? We've been in the 20's for weeks. The fog has been so thick that the visibility has been 50 feet most mornings on my drive to work. The airport has even closed here a few times. Finally once we started to get into the 30's it seems to have subsided a little bit.

This is good to know. I was thinking that we would bring a bunch of Nalgene bottles.

We always bring our own cups because the ones they provide are small. We would be running up and down the stairs a 100 times a day. I highly recommend bringing your own. Just make sure you get a clean Disney paper cup and fill that to fill your own cup (for sanitary reasons).

I haven't told my eldest son's teacher yet. I have a feeling that she may freak out. (We already took a week off in October!:scared1:) I'll probably send her a note on Monday. :littleangel:
My other guy's only going to miss 2 days because he's in Junior Kindergarten.popcorn::

My DH needs a break as well, but knowing him he'll probably still try to check in with work everyday!:sad2:

Hi Natalie,
Remember to watch out for roaming charges if your DH checks in with work. My DH says he won't check in but I'm pretty sure eventually he will. I heard roaming charges are brutal.

And Tyler Dean (my DS) is going to be soooooo happy that there are finally more 16 year olds in the group!! (He turns 17 the day after the cruise)

My Connor is 16. I asked if he wanted to "talk" to anyone his age on our cruise ahead of time, but he chose not to. However, he's a reserved personality, but so much fun once he opens up. I'm hoping that he'll want to hang out with your son and others since my other son won't be with us on this cruise.

I've been told for swimming in a pool to put conditioner on my daughter's hair (long and thick) before going in without rinsing it off. Might work for you.

We hasn't told the teachers here either. I'll do that Monday. My kids will be missing four days of school.
