I just had to move my 5 Gallon Disney Fund Change Jar to vaccum and I could hardly lift it, I looked
and realized it is a little over half full. No pennies, all quarters, nickels and dimes and I would say
mostly quarters. So now I'm sitting here wondering how much is there and if it could get me to Disney
for a couple days sooner rather than later. :scratchin

I'd guess there's a good chance you got enough to get you to Disney faster...now I'm curious too!

You should take a picture of the jar so we can all make guesses as to how much it's worth. Then the winner gets to keep it! err I mean, you get to go to Disney =)

We did this! Ours included pennies and it was around a quarter of the way full when I emptied it. We had over $600!
Good Luck and let us know how much!!!

That's going to be a nice sum of $$$$!!!

I'll post a couple pics, but I don't know when I'm going to be doing any counting. I think it's going to take me quite a while.

Have you done this before with the 5 gallon jar, and if so, what was the amount?

I have always used this change jar, but it's never gotten this full, last time I emptied it for a trip I think there was almost $500, but it wasn't nearly this full.

Only a quarter of the way full and you had $600??? Wow!

Think of the cream cheese you could buy!

:rotfl2:

(and don't mention grapefruit)

Oh yes, you are a funny, funny, guy. :lmao:

Grapefruit. Grapefruit. Grapefruit.

freedom of speech ya know. ;)

I do this with a 28 ounce old Folgers coffee container. I don't discriminate against the pennies, so they go in the container too! :lmao: When it's full to the top I take it to the credit union (they have a free sorting machine) and put it in my vacation fund. It's usually in the $200 range when full.

If you ever get it full you will need a forklift to move it.

Now is the time to check with your bank to see if they have a counter they can use (at no cost to you) to get the money into your account.

I can never collect more than $40 or so in my change jar! But, I had been strictly using my debit card. . . in the past two weeks, I've started using cash only and hope to start really collecting change.

Having said all that - can't wait to see pics of your change jar!!

This is a fabulous idea! I think I will get back to doing this too! The last time I did this was many years ago. I had a piggy bank (it plays "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" when you drop the money in) but not a jar or can! I think I will set up a Disney Change jar!

How long have you been collecting change?

Congratulations! I hardly ever use cash so I never have change jars anymore :( You should find a place to dump-count it,though...nothing worse than having to roll coins. Check with your bank to see if they have a change dumper thing that will automatically add it to your account. Or you can use the one that they have in the grocery store (but there's a fee with that one).

Sounds like a really nice trip fund! We have an actual piggy bank, well, it's a piggy head, about the size of a gallon milk jug. When that's full it's normally over $200. We don't use cash that much, so it hasn't been emptied in a couple of years (dh insists it can't be emptied until it's full, and he's the one whose change goes in it because mine just stays in my wallet).

BUT, when it does fill up, I LOVE rolling coins! I know, I'm weird! I also love packing and unpacking - for trips, moving, you name it! :hyper: maybe I would be a professional packer/unpacker? I would be a professional coin roller if they didn't already have the machines! :lmao:

I hardly make it past 15.00 before i cash it in.

We use TD Bank and they have a free change machine in every bank.

Let's see a pic! : )

Mine is a large plastic pepsi bottle. I work at a gas station part time and we always get the gold dollars. No one wants them, so I usually but 10 or so every other Sat. I won't cash mine in for a while.

Another recommendation for TD Bank if you have one nearby. They have a giant coin counter called the Penny Arcade that is free if you have an account, though they do charge a small fee (I think 6%?) if you don't. Try to find someone who has an account so you can keep all of that glorious change to yourself!
