***1st Week of December Thread ADR Plans, Park Hours, and dealing with Pop Warner***

What is the first DISNEY thing you're going to do when you get to Orlando? I mean the first "event" or thing you are looking forward to the most. Not the necessary stuff, but your first "whiff of Disney"... the moment when you say "YES, I am HERE and I am ON VACATION?"

In preparation for our long Disney weekend in February, I made 2 Disney mix CDs for us to play leading up to Orlando. If we start the first one almost exactly 2 hours outside Orlando, we timed it just so that when we are driving through the gates at Disney, the Wishes music is playing. So that's my Disney whiff, driving through the gates with our Disney music!

Oh, I tear up and giggle when I see the Welcome Sign and just about every other "first" lol. That is when it hits me that we're there. Years ago when I first started planning, I read not to do MK as the first park with kids because all the rest will pale in comparison. Now I love MK, but I love all the rest too. I have followed that train of thought though and have never gone to MK first to keep the suspense going. We usually hit DHS or AK first, this time the latter. Unless we decide to hop over, it will actually be the last park we see.

I LOVE how the Disney planning goes around here! The only thing better than having something really exciting happen (ADR capture, plans coming together in all manner of ways, etc.), is having a wonderful group of people who GET IT, get as excited as you do when you share it with them. I mean....that's just really cool! I think everyone feeds off each other's excitement and it escalates and before you know it, it feels like a party on here!!
party:

WOOT WOOT for 30 DAYS!! :jumping1: I am in the 30-day boat now, too!. :boat: Who else is on board? I know @Lisa F and @areno79......
Me! 30 days! 31 until the first park but 30 until we fly to Orlando and get to bc!!! Garden grocer actually called me this morning just to confirm my order. It's feeling real. And yet I am now feeling there is so much left to do still!

I haven't spoken to my sister in like 5 years. we are the only two siblings, have never been close, and she was awful to me during my divorce. When she first heard about it she called my now ex and said "I don't care what my b**** sister does, you are always part of the family." Which might even be a reasonable response if someone had asked her to take sides... but no one had. She basically took it upon herself to take his sides when no one even made it about that. We had a fight about it and she told me that she could not support something that was a bad decision... she "tells it like it is." Whenever we have argued before I was always the one to go crawling back to her and apologized 100% because of course everything is my fault... for the sake of peace and family unity. Well I did not do that this time and hence we have not spoken. She got custody of my parents in the divorce and I haven't spent a holiday with my family since getting divorced. My parents are EXTREMELY wrapped up in her life (they are over there several times a week, do her laundry, care for her kids etc) and there is just no room for me. I'm not asking them to give up being where they really want to be for holidays and they have never offered. That's why I've been bumming... I figured out my vacation time for the rest of the year and took off the week between xmas and new years also but it just makes me so sad to not even be welcome with my own family.

But honestly I don't miss her. she was a toxic force in my life and I don't miss the drama, the hate, the anger that she spews forth on a constant basis. But it is a little hard feeling so alone in the world. I don't spend holidays alone, I spend them with BF and his family... and I see my family a day or two after or maybe for a couple of hours on xmas day between times they are at my sister's house for xmas eve and xmas day dinner. just doesn't feel right though.

It's tough. It doesn't really bother me except around holidays and the 2x a year my parents come to visit my son here when my mother is on the phone or texting constantly with my sister.
That is so hard. I think most families have drama and issues it's just under the surface. :grouphug: makes the time with your son, your bf and the people in your life who care really precious! I won't even get into mine or DH's family because it is just depressing.

But. We are going to Disney!!!

Oooh!! MK is our last park too! :D I didn't really plan it to be the last park on purpose but it just fit better :)

I'm with you on the many things to do still! So excited we're going soon but also apprehensive with all the things that still need to be done! Also kind of sad that it'll be here soon and over soon :(

I have heard that too. I think hs will be DD's least favorite park so we are doing that first. We have emm at mk on our 2nd park day . Im so excited. When disney first came out with emm I was like ugh who would pay for that? Lol I've done a 180 on that!

Also I think it will feel super real when we get on the magical express at the airport. Mt daughter was saying 30 days until disney this morning. Haha.

Hmm, we're going to be in Florida before arriving at Disney, but I feel that that part of the vacation doesn't count. My kids are both beyond excited about Disney. They talk about Disney every day (yeah, I shouldn't have told them about the trip ahead of time but I couldn't control myself), so I'm really looking forward to the look of excitement on their faces when we walk into the Magic Kingdom. We're dumping our stuff at POR and heading straight to the MK upon our Orlando arrival. Our first MK stop is talking Mickey. I can't wait for them to interact with Mickey and then walk down Main Street to see the castle. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it!

I haven't had any time to join in the convo today, so consider this a catch up post and sorry I can't quote everyone I want to.

Regarding family issues. My sister and I are polar opposites and were never close. She is 3 years older and has always been totally into makeup and hair and lots of girly things. One thing we do share is a love of animals, but she limits it to just cats and dogs. She got married, has 3 daughters who I love, and moved in right next door to my parents. My mom did all the babysitting because she retired early and they became really close of course. While I moved over an hour away. We still had a lot of fun family events. Now my sister is going through a very messy divorce, dating a new guy, and doesn't seem to care about anything but him. No more family events. I get together with my parents at least once a month and they usually bring my nieces and stay overnight at my house (because they are almost always watching the kids while my sister is with her bf). So at least I get to see them.

Well we are going to Universal first, but our first WDW day is a resort crawl! I think it'll be a great way to get accustomed to the transportation before our park days. Our first meal is currently scheduled to be Ohana at 3:30pm. So I'm looking forward to that meal and then hitting up more resorts and seeing the decorations. We currently also have a California Grill ADR around time for Wishes. If we keep that and watch Wishes, that will likely be our first "this really is Disney world!" moment.

Our first park is AK and our very first activity is the Wild Africa Trek at 8am. Again, this should be a good first park day to get accustomed to the FP system and navigating the parks in general. Before we head to MK for EMM the next morning, and switch over to Epcot afterwards. Hopefully we are pros at transportation, FPs, dining, finding restrooms, etc. by then!

Ok, I'm headed to universal first like @JamieOak :) so my first thing after check in is to have dinner at Toothsome Chocolate Emporium! Nothing better to kick off a vacation like dessert and more dessert! :) and I will cheat and say the first thing at Disney will be to check out EPCOT and buy some pastries at Les Halles! :hyper: Of course it's jbjb on my first night at Disney ;)

The only thing I'm crazy excited about at Universal is everything Harry Potter. DH and I are both super excited for this part of our trip. I'm very happy that we are doing it as the very first thing! And we have 3 mornings to dedicate to HP world. I still haven't researched all the eating options at Universal. So I'm not sure where we plan to eat yet!

lol you must have a killer metabolism, you're such a tiny little thing.

I was totally thinking the same thing.

That is awesome! That's some extreme Disney planning. :D I totally forgot about driving through the gates. That will probably be a pretty special moment too.

When disney first came out with emm I was like ugh who would pay for that? Lol I've done a 180 on that!

I said the exact same thing. Maybe even worded it like "What poor saps are paying for this?" This poor sap is! :yay:

At least you have someone to talk Disney with at home! DH has told me a few times "Just tell me what we are doing the day before we leave." He basically would rather be surprised with the trip! :sad2:

Funny, although it's hard to talk Disney plans with a 3 year old and almost 5 year old, LOL! We do have a nightly ritual of crossing off a day on our countdown calendar. I hold the sharpie and they both put their hands on my hand to make the X over the Mickey for that day. It's fun and they are excited to see the days go down. We started the countdown at the beginning of September and they can tell we're close as the last day on the count down in December 1-- the morning we leave on our drive to Florida!

Yeah you still need us for the important discussions. :P But it's great you can talk about it and have that ritual. Is this going to be their first trip?

Good morning everyone,
I am incredibly behind here :( and I wish i could be around more often these past few days. I know so many of you feel the same way, but I love this thread so much! It is such a special group of people, and the dynamics are what make everyone keep coming back!! I haven't even been able to read anything in the past 10 pages or so, but like @Talby once said, I even think of you all often in my real life!! :) I am so excited for those of you leaving in just a few weeks! It'll be awesome to hear from you guys while you're already there and we're still clutching our already packed bags! I'll try to catch up tonight !! Hope you're all well :)

You're going to have a BLAST a Universal. My trip 6 years ago with DH was really to go to Harry Potter world (before it was in both parks). I planned 2 days at Universal (we stayed over by Universal) and then 2 days at Disney. He really liked Universal a lot and didn't complain once while we were there. You all already know about how badly the Disney part of the trip was from my post yesterday. But, anyway, the Harry Potter stuff was so cool for both of us. I'd go back this trip but my kids are too young (aka, short to enjoy the rides) for Universal at this point. Next trip!

Watching wishes from the pontoon boat! pixiedust:

It does not feel like Disney until I see the castle.

@areno79

Thanks to everyone who played 3 Great Things! :-) Heart-warming to read what everyone shared! :lovestruc
I finally have a moment to sit down at the computer and type this out. Just too wordy for a phone response. :)

My 3 Great Things:
1. Being able to spend time with my younger brother and his family during our vacation. My brother and I come from a large family, and it's not often that we get to see him. His wife is constantly pulling him to celebrate the holidays with her family, and there are times where that does feel painful. There are 7 kids in the family, and I am the oldest, so when there is a gathering, I'd like it for everyone to be there. This year though will be broken up because 3 of the siblings are studying abroad (Spain, Brazil, and England)... It's actually one of the reasons we're taking this Disney trip when we are. Anyway, I can't wait to be with them, and tour Disney (and find out if their baby #3 is a boy or girl!)

2. Touring Disney during the holidays. We've been twice during the fall for MNSSHP, and F&W. Being at Disney during the Christmas season almost makes it feel like we're Disney novices again. There is so many things we've never done that it's making it even more exciting than I had even anticipated.

3. It's DD2's first trip! She'll be almost 11 months when we go. She's thisclose to walking, and just in the last week or so has really kind of started to notice the characters on the TV shows that DD1 watches. I just can't wait to see her reaction to everything!

AND to celebrate being 30 days out... I have a Disney question for everyone!!

What is the first DISNEY thing you're going to do when you get to Orlando? I mean the first "event" or thing you are looking forward to the most. Not the necessary stuff, but your first "whiff of Disney"... the moment when you say "YES, I am HERE and I am ON VACATION?"
As simple and mundane as it sounds, checking into the resort! It's really that first Cast Member interaction and many times it's incredibly enjoyable! And I'll really know when we're on vacation when we bite into that first Mickey Waffle!

27 days!:mickeyjum

Oh man, great question! For me, the first real whiff of Disney is heading down to DME at the airport, and the moment the bus crosses under the main gate. Every time I go under that sign I have to take a pic from the bus! :rotfl:

As far as Christmasy things, my first day is not a park day for me, so it will be arriving at Saratoga Springs and seeing the lobby all decked out for Christmas, and then my afternoon run from WL to FW to see the Christmas decor in the lobby and all the decorated campsites!

have a nice day, everyone. I need to be a good girl and put my nose to the grindstone at work. Breakfast and coffee consumed, email and voicemails answered. I am at the end of what I can multitask with the DIS.

catch you all later (only announcing it because maybe I will stick to it lol)

Good luck with staying off the DIS to get your work done!

If you are a huge HP fan you are going to LOVE the HP stuff at Universal! It really is so amazing!!!

So today, my boss had a genius idea. Originally, I was going to work on Monday 12/5 and then have my vacation start the next day with my morning flight to Orlando. But I have a few remaining vacation days and she was like, why don't you just take that Monday off too? And I was like, duh, why didn't I think of that? It would be really annoying to have to go into work for that one single day, and now I'll have the entire day before my trip to make sure I'm packed and ready to go!
And yes, believe you me, my very first thought was, maybe I can add a day onto my trip! :rotfl2::rotfl: But I really can't, because it would cost me even more to change my flight and add another hotel night, and it would mean staying at 3 different resorts over the course of 6 nights, lol.

Ok, I have some ADR questions for you all. I was looking at the ADR spreadsheet as I was doing my search and I was wondering if it was up to date? Just want to make sure I spend my time searching for things you all really still need:

@Iowamomof4 I am searching still for your Tusker breakfast on 11/29
@rasadkowski I am still looking for your Ohana dinner on 12/5
@JamieOak, do you still need an 'Ohana on the dates you have on there? It sounded from your last post that you were set with 'Ohana.
@Lisa F did you give up on wanting that BOG lunch on 12/2 now that you are planning on LTT and doing a BOG on your last day?
@Mintycake are you still looking for 1900 PF on 12/8?
@CaleCakes and @candycane the things you're looking for on 12/8 are not things I can grab for you because at the moment I'm holding ADRs at those times. Just wanted you to know that I haven't forgotten about you!

I'm so excited about Harry Potter too! We haven't seen Daigon Alley yet so it'll be great! DH loved Forbidden Journey last trip, his fav ride. :)

LOL, I will say I totally missed @Lisa F mentioning my metabolism. Yes, it's too fast for me and I've had plenty of volunteers including DH and my mom who says they will donate some fat to me :rotfl:

At least you have someone to talk Disney with at home! DH has told me a few times "Just tell me what we are doing the day before we leave." He basically would rather be surprised with the trip! :sad2:

I have the same problem with my DH. Even DS2 ignores me when I try to talk Disney. :rotfl2:

Oh no! I've already found mine but have not had a chance to update the spreadsheet! I'm really not looking for anything anymore... (I think). LOL! Thanks so much for thinking of me Miss ADR fairy godmother! :)

I'm taking my shortie to Universal anyway. LOL! It's really for us because I could not resist but there's a few things I'm thinking DS2 would love too! :) We have a character breakfast for him on our first morning so he could meet the Minions (one of his first 2 syllable words... besides garbage :rotfl2:)
