***1st Week of December Thread ADR Plans, Park Hours, and dealing with Pop Warner***

Regarding the water situation, I bought insulated water bottles for our camping trip and brought those to Disney. We just outed the bottles into them before heading to the park. They worked pretty well! Not all day cold, but it was also in the 90s every day that we were there.

I think they're like $20 at Dick's Sporting Goods.

Oh my gosh that's funny!

What I keep in the house is different than what we eat out. I don't keep snack foods (besides hummus and pita), the only beverages you will find in my fridge are bottles of water and milk. I'm a big juicer and never buy store bought juice.

Like a year and a half ago I had to go out of town on business for 2 nights, my son stayed with my parents. When I picked him up the first thing he said was "Mommy will you buy syrup?" I was in shock, he has kashi waffles several time per week for breakfast and we smash blackberries on them- no syrup in my house. Well, after the stay at my parent's blackberries no longer made the cut. He also had store bought apple juice and said he liked it better than the juice I give him. Totally ruined it. I still don't buy juice, but I gave in on the syrup.lol.
Maybe we should have that drink together, lol. I don't give the kiddo anything but water or milk (and I limit the milk too) and he has never had juice except when sick or as a treat when we go out to eat, I don't keep it in the house. We don't use syrup either, lol. I never felt the need to add sugar to his diet when he ate them without (I do put a little smear of butter on and we sprinkle some cinnamon on too). he is very picky due to sensory issues related to the ASD but I try to keep it as healthy as I can. He does like syrup but we just do not have it except for special occasions, lol. One day he came home from school SOO excited. "MOM, I TRIED SOMETHING NEW AT SCHOOL!!" Me "oh really?" "YES! they had pancakes for lunch today and I tried maple syrup and I LIKED IT." DUH (they do brunch on half days with breakfast foods). He was still ok not having it at home, lol.

Although yesterday I had a craving for golden grahams when I saw they were on sale at the supermarket and he had some (we do not do sweet cereal at all either, just cheerios multigrain sometimes mixed with some honey nut cheerios but more often not, or kix) and he ate some this morning. But he is pretty good at accepting certain things are treats or occasional. He is a BIG kid for his age and chunks up easily probably due to lousy genetics, and he won't eat most fruits or any veggies so I try really hard to cut out the gratuitous calories where I can... juice and syrup and sugary cereals and basically the kind of stuff that skinny minnie kids can get away with eating... we just talk about making healthy choices and sometimes foods.

It's a standing joke and battle when kiddo has to come to my office. My coworkers always try to load him up with vending machine snacks bc they know he drinks kale and carrot juice at home as his "sweet treat". When I catch him with something out of the vending machine he says "I know mommy, TOO MUCH sugar!" Lol. We haven't done any of the sweet cereals yet, he actually loves special k, which I didn't even try to give him, but had it for me. He mainly eats Cheerios or Kashi cereals. I don't extend those rules when we are out and about though.

Oh I tried switching my son from regular Cheerios to honey nut ones. Then I switched back because my DH complained it was too sweet for DS... Lucky DS doesn't know how to complain yet! Lol! He loves cookies and chocolate from the little we have given him... (I feel so guilty as a mom now! Haha!)

It's so much easier at that age!!! I don't think my son knew that store bought juice or sweets (not counting z bars) existed until age 4!

Actually Disney was kinda tough with the refillable mug. I let him drink the lemonade almost daily. I wish they had another option from the drink station for kids.

Also can I just say I am relieved that I'm not the only one with a picky eater at Disney. I'm scared she won't eat and then that will lead to meltdowns (she has low blood sugar). But I don't want her to live on granola bars and fries! Thats why I want to pack things like cucumbers, carrots, celery and fresh fruit because at least she eats that and it's healthy!
you might have to be ok with her living on granola bars and fries. It's vacation and some kids just don't adjust well to being out of their routine even if having a great time. One week out of the year won't kill her to not eat healthy. In fact, since I battle with my weight and my son seems to have that genetic propensity along with picky eating I feel like I am ALWAYS preoccupied with that stuff and on him about good choices while trying not to make him neurotic and have the poor body image I grew up with. Our rule on vacation is ICE CREAM EVERY DAY! it's both of our favorites and we are always having discussions about it being a treat, a sometimes food etc... so for vacation ice cream every day. lol

It is rough being a parent though, I'll tell you. I was feeling kind of bummed - my kiddo has been "home" sick the last two days and monday I took him to work with me when motrin perked him up (we have a big tv for presentations but it has netflix and amazon so i hooked it to our accounts and let him watch movies). Tuesday he was still sick and I figured I would go in and grab my laptop and work from home and I walked in and got an email from my rep and the CEO and head of sales that they just got here on the ferry (it is really hard to get here due to the ferry and expensive to boot) so my "run in unshowered and grab laptop" turned into a 3 hour meeting with him watching Zootopia and eating a chocolate chip muffin from the gas station next door. no joke. My sick child. sigh. I was feeling like a majorly crappy parent when my bf pointed out that I'm in luck, this month the bar to clear for 'bad parent' is set at letting your kid fall into a gorilla enclosure (that is not a commentary on her parenting etc, I'm not trying to get controversial... I just thought it was a funny comment!) oh and it did make me feel a little better!

everything was homemade and organic when he was born, I baby wore, he nursed until he stopped on his own, I delayed the start of solids and started with homemade veggies instead of rice cereal, made all of his baby food. then i got divorced and moved in with my parents for a while and he discovered chicken nuggets, hot dogs, mac and cheese etc. He doesn't eat a whole lot of that stuff now but I do keep it in the arsenal for quickie meals. Last night he had grilled steak and some popcorners. He won't eat veggies :-p I had corn and grilled bell peppers with balsamic. he gagged watching me eat it.

Ok it's not a funny story, but your comment made me laugh!!!!
We are members at that zoo, so yeah if I start feeling bad about my skills then I could at least be happy that my kid hasn't escaped me to climb into an animal enclosure!

lol my DH wants to introduce hotdogs to my son now! He's been bugging me to buy some since this past weekend because my son keeps singing 'hotdog hotdog' from Mickey Mouse clubhouse and he doesn't know what a hotdog is!! I'm trying to prolong not giving him any! :P

I need to remember to hold my kid tightly or I'd be on the news next!

That's how I was! Unfortunately I nursed much longer than I planned on- he never did take a bottle. But I stayed home with him the first 14 months, made all of his food, had Pinterest boards full of organic baby food concoctions that I made - I actually attribute that to why he isn't a picky eater, but who knows if it's actually true.
Then our lives changed drastically and I went back to work, and then we relocated about 18 months later. I try to keep things as healthy as possible, but there's nights where we just order a pizza because I'm too tired to cook.

my unsolicited opinion - you can't keep it from them forever. learning moderation is probably one of the toughest things for american kids to learn. I wish someone had taught me, lol. you want your kids to learn to make healthy choices most of the time but still have treats. also not be the weird kid in the group, it is hard enough growing up without raising a child that will look down on anyone who doesn't eat kale, lol. I just try to strike the balance, as I'm sure we all do. Love without spoiling, happiness without the inability to deal with troubles, hot dogs without having it be a major food group.

mine either and I got laid off from my architecture job (crash of 2007, he was born in June 2008) so I was unexpectedly home with him and not inclined to force the issue. I ate a big variety while nursing and offered him a big variety including lots of ethnic foods but then taste and texture preferences kicked in and now he is picky. Stuff he ate happily from 6-24 months he won't touch with a 10 foot pole now. I'm pretty sure if you're kid is not picky you just got lucky. The BF has two kids, one he has to force to eat salad, the other doesn't like sweet or treats and prefers salad. Both raised the same way. But it's great that you take his preferences and run with it and are teaching him healthy habits because I think those preferences can be undone by a childhood full of crap food!

ok back to ADRs, someone just scared me out of going to DS on a Sunday (said DS is way too crowded) :( I can't make up my mind on how to do this now!! Im thinking of moving Narcoosee's on Dec 4 and STK on dec 6. But that would mean I have California Grill 10am and Narcoosee's 7pm on the same day?!

I'm still going. I think with fast passes and the rest of what I want to do being shows and EMH I should be able to do my business, have lunch, do more business and get out of dodge.

I agree with this. Moderation is everything!
We live in the Midwest now, which was a major culture shock after Boca Raton. I like the city we live in, but we don't live downtown where most of the ethnic restaurants are, and as far as health foods, it just isn't as main stream here as it was there- it is getting more so though! There we could walk to so many different restaurants and cafes and there are Sooo many different food choices. That's probably why we spend so much time eating during our SoFla visits.lol
Last year in pre k for Valentines Day I didn't want to send candy at that age, and then was shocked that he received so much candy! I've learned to loosen up on that stuff a lot.

Hmm. I wanted to enjoy Disney springs though... Shop a little and take our time so while we just had our fire drill in this frigid weather, I'm thinking it may work to my advantage to just move STK to Dec 6, which is a party night as well I think.

I'm hoping Disney Quest will still be open during our trip! I'm expecting it to be cold and would be a great indoor activity. We'll be doing Disney Springs on our check out day, hoping to also fit it in after Fantasmic on our HS day.

I can only guess what will happen when my son starts school. I'm sure he would be exposed to all that. Still if my DH buys a pack of hotdogs I'm sure he would be eating most of it! Lol
