We have been over 15 times so we are not novices. but our last trip was 2013 right before all the FP+ and magic band stuff started. We usually always go the first week of May.

We have never been FP people. We just go and do what we can do...or what we feel like. We do rope drop at MK and take afternoon breaks. but we are not commando in any way. We used to grap an occasional FP to ride Toy Story or a something that was convenient for the return time. but in no way did we make our trip about getting FP. we just ride what has short lines and enjoy.

so....my fear about our upcoming May trip is that the slower rides of the past are now going to be busier because everything is FP now and if you don't have a FP you won't get to ride or have to wait a long time.

will we be able to still enjoy our trip as in the past. you know walk on Figment, Nemo, Spaceship Earth, people mover, great movie ride...basically all the rides that don't usually have more than 5-10 min waits.

or is it all going to be busy??? rest my fears for me :)

Yes, you will still enjoy your trip. It's Disney World! I have walked on all the above attractions you mentioned since the introduction of MagicBands and FP+. The only thing I have noticed is that the FP+ scanners are at the entrance to each attraction, which makes the lines look daunting. Most of them move quickly. I think this was poor planning on Disney's part. The scanners (in my opinion) should be located before you board the ride...

I think you will find that those rides have longer waits - for example on our mid- December trip Living with the Land was a 20 min wait when in the past it was always walk-on. Great Movie Ride was similar. The lines moved fast though and we were still able to enjoy a lot of rides. Since you like to wing it, I would suggest checking out same day FastPasses when you get to your desired park and see if you can bypass some of those wait times for rides you don't want to miss.
Bottom line is that 20 minutes isn't really a long wait - it just seems long and gets a little frustrating when you've walked right on in the past! I'm sure you will enjoy your trip regardless of the new system. It will be whatever you want it to be! Have fun! :goodvibes

thank you for the fast replies. your right we are at Disney....but kind of wondered if it would be much different :)

It's not too bad with FP+ now as far as wait times. It's convenient having somewhat of your day planned out. Only downside is that it has increased some wait times for rides that use to be walk on or minimal wait. You can usually catch most of the rides you mentioned as walk ons but occasionally they have long waits, normally around noon when parks the busiest

Spaceship Earth occasionally gets up to a 30 min wait. Great Movie Ride frequently gets backed up being tier 1. We were there Easter weekend and walked on around 10am. By noon it was posted a 50 min wait.

Nemo and figment are normally always a walk on.

Pirate's and Living with the land are the big other 2 that have found increased times. They were never as long of waits before FP+.

We were just there last week and had a good time using FP+. This was our 2nd trip using it. It did allow us to be able to come to the park a little later than rope drop, although it was very crowded before noon as usual. We were able to get a few extra FP+ when our original 3 were used but by the time that was, most of the headliner attractions were gone. We did notice that Pirates and Small World had 30+ minute waits, but were able to walk on Pirates at least right before Wishes. Spaceship Earth also had a 25 minute stand by wait but the line moved fairly fast. Overall, it was a good trip and we were able to ride most everything we wanted at our pace. I hope you have a great time.

This past week we were surprised that Imagination had a 35 minute wait - that one was previously always a walk on. Haunted Mansion was posted at 30 minutes or more, but we timed it from entering the line to entering the Mansion and it was always less than 20. Nemo and People Mover with both walk ons.
