When I left off, we had just finished unpacking and were getting ready to head to our first park of the trip, the Magic Kingdom!
We had to shuffle some things around into bags, but we weren't taking too much since it was already about 4:15 pm and we wouldn't be there for long. Keep in mind, DH & I had not eaten anything besides breakfast & some pretzels on the plane, so we were starving at this point! We got the bags, the stroller, and DS into the car and followed those lovely purple signs to the TTC!
So happy to see this again!!
Not only was I excited to be back in Disney World, I was also extremely excited to be heading to a park on the first day of our trip! Usually we do not want to waste a day on our tickets for such a short time in the parks, but this trip was special.
We were able to find a spot in the Diamond parking, so we didn't have to take the tram. DS had fallen asleep in the car, and luckily we were able to successfully transfer him to the stroller without waking him, and pushing him around kept him asleep all the way to the monorail station.
This will be the first of MANY pictures I took of DS passed out in one exciting place or another, and he had no clue what he was missing!
In this instance, he was happily sleeping through our first glance at the Magic Kingdom! I was nice enough to snap a picture of it for him though.
We made our way through baggage check (which now took SO much longer, since I had a backpack with 3 compartments smashed FULL of baby stuff!), and in no time, we were walking down Main Street U.S.A., which I was happy to see was already decorated with the beautiful wreaths & garlands I loved so much on our last Christmastime trip.
Even the distraction of being in my favorite place in the world didn't stop my stomach from growling in protest of being without food for so long. After quickly going over our choices, we decided on Columbia Harbour House. I steered the stroller in the direction of Liberty Square and led the way, all the while marveling at all of the things DS was missing by taking a nap! When we got to the restaurant, I didn't want to try taking DS out of the stroller, so DH was going to go inside to get the food while I grabbed one of the tables outside. Before he could get very far though, DS's eyes popped open, so we parked the stroller and the 3 of us went inside. Poor DS, he went to sleep in the car and woke up in Colonial America with a ton of strangers around!
He looked freaked for half a second, but quickly had a smile on his face.
I was disappointed when we got inside to see the menu had changed and CHH no longer offered the chicken & fish baskets we normally got, so we both ordered the fish baskets instead. As we were waiting to pick up our food, Paxton was hardcore flirting with the girls behind the counter.
The girl who made our drinks asked if it was his first trip, and when we said yes, gave us a 1st Visit button that she wrote his name on. Even though it was not crowded downstairs, we have taken to eating upstairs ever since eating up there on our KTTK tour. We went to that same area overlooking the Haunted Mansion and grabbed a table with the section all to ourselves!
While we ate, I tried to distract DS with some puffs, but no, he wanted some of our dinner! This was when he got his very first (of many to come over the course of the trip) French fry! And oh yes, did he love them. Not a habit I was thrilled to start, but just 2 or 3 kept him busy enough for our meal that we could eat.
Here's a video of him eating his first fry (with ketchup, at DH's insistence!)
After we finished our meals, DH and I decided we wanted to ride at least one attraction before getting back to the resort for a good night's sleep. So I pulled out the map and the Lines app on my phone and we tried to figure out which attraction looked like it would be quick, and a good first ride for Paxton. Dumbo was out, as we wanted to get to that first on our MK rope drop morning. The best looking wait time ended up being right outside our window, the Haunted Mansion!
This was the first time DH and I were able to experience the new interactive queue, which we both loved! We could have pretty much walked right in had we chosen the other side of the line that bypassed the cemetery, but we both had been wanting to see it.
Me & DS waiting in line
We weren't sure how DS would react to being in the dark with spooky music playing and things popping up at you, but it was really a non issue. He didn't even make a peep in the library part. He really just seemed like he was still tired, because he kept wanting to turn around in my lap to face me and put his head on my shoulder. Poor boo boo had had a long day!
Once our ride was over, we collected the stroller and made our way to the front of the park. We had one more thing we wanted to do before finishing up for the day - upgrade our tickets!
We went to guest services inside City Hall and told them what we wanted to do, upgrade our 5 day Park Hoppers to Premier AP's. The CM seemed a little confused at first as to what we wanted until I said we wanted the tickets for both WDW and DL. She told us we would have to go to guest services outside the park because they couldn't print those tickets. So we exited the park and went over to the guest relations window there (just in time too, because a looooong line quickly formed behind us, and we just had to wait for the next available window).
The CM there was also a little confused on how to do the upgrade, but said she'd be able to do it for us. Luckily I had learned on the DIS about how they bridge the tickets if you use them for park admission first so that it wouldn't cancel out the discount I had gotten on the tickets from work. I had a general idea of how much the upgrade should cost us, and the price she gave us at first was WAY more! I told her it didn't sound right, so she asked her manager, and she was able to fix it so we were credited the full gate price of 5 day park hoppers towards the Premier AP's. She got them printed and handed us our new cards!
I was happy to see that they were the credit card style instead of the softer tickets that an AP is. DH made a comment that he was disappointed not to have the Donald Duck ticket anymore, and the CM said, "But you get this pretty gold one instead!"
While we were there, we went ahead and got our Disney Visa Reward Points card to activate, reimbursement for the parking fee we had paid, and more buttons! 2 Anniversary buttons for myself & DH, and a birthday button for DS, that the CM decorated very cute.
We did have to attach DS's buttons to the stroller since all he wanted to do was play with them and pull on them. DH & I actually had to attach our anniversary pins to the straps of our bags as well because I tried wearing mine on my jacket only to have DS pull on it so much it left stretched holes in the fabric.
We still got a lot of notice for our anniversary buttons, but I was disappointed that most people didn't notice DS's. Maybe next year!
After all of that, we took the monorail back to the TTC and got everything back in the car. We got back to Bonnet Creek and fed DS his dinner. I tried putting a warm compress on his little bump, but he wouldn't keep it there, so I filled the bathtub with some warm water and let him soak. Then I had to be a mean mommy and drain it.
The nurse in me knew it was what needed to be done, but it hurt my mommy heart to hear him scream so much. Once it was over & done with he got lots of hugs, kisses, and cuddles from both of us and went right to bed with no problems and only a little rocking in the rocking chair.
DH and I got to bed pretty early that night too. After a full day traveling and some park time, plus jumping ahead an hour, we were wiped out!
