DAY 3 Continued: Sunday November 6th
After finishing up on Jungle Cruise, we headed up Main Street to the Harmony Barber Shop to check in for DS's first haircut.
Our appointment was for 11 am and I think we got called in just before that time. Somehow, D&G actually made it in time, since they usually can't get themselves ready and to the parks before noon!
They got him up in the chair and proceeded to cover him in stickers, which did keep him busy for a little while, but only because he wanted to take them off and eat them. That was the one thing that drove me crazy the whole trip. CM's always wanted to give him stickers which was so sweet of them, but then I'd have to be the meanie taking them away because he was gnawing on them.
Just look how excited he is about that sticker!
I do have a video that for some reason I didn't upload when I was doing the rest of the videos, so hopefully it will finish by the time I finish typing up this post. If not, I'll have to post it separately when it finishes uploading.
Luckily he took a liking to his hairdresser too, which was a relief.
Let the cutting begin!
You can see in that picture I had a Ziploc bag in my hand. I had absolutely no clue what they do with the hair and I of course wanted the first snip for his baby book. Well, just to let anyone know who is planning to do this, they save the first lock for you, so you don't need to bring anything! She put it down on a paper towel, wrapped it up tight, and sealed it with a Mickey sticker. In the video, I kind of awkwardly try to hold out the bag but she didn't see it.
He actually did VERY well with the haircut! There were a couple of times she would pull his hair up between her fingers to cut, and he would jerk his head forward before she could snip, but overall he let her do what she needed to do.
Once she gave him the comb to play with, well that was all this kid needs to make him a happy boy!
I think I was dancing & looking foolish because the Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It parade was passing the barber shop outside and I was trying to get Paxton to look out the window to see it. That darn comb was just too exciting in and of itself though.
Trying on his ears!
Post-haircut!
Closeup of the ears.
As we left the Barber Shop, we stopped to have our pictures taken at the end of Main Street. We got ribbed on by one of the character handlers in the vicinity for being Saints fan and said he couldn't believe we were let into the park. Then he leaned over to me with a wink to show me his nametag that said he was from NY and said, "You know why I have to mess with ya!" I came back with, "Well I guess if they let you in, they have to let us in too, right?" That gave him a laugh!
After taking our picture, we stopped in the Emporium so D&G could use our AP discount to buy a jacket for Paxton that they had found and liked. It was getting close to 12 by that time, so we decided to head out for lunch. D&G weren't ready to eat, so we parted ways, what I had hoped was for good, but not so much. DH, DS, and I went over to eat at one of our favorites, Cosmic Ray's. DH and I got some burgers and went down to eat near Sonny Eclipse thinking that would keep DS entertained, but he could have cared less.
Once our bellies were full, we headed over to the baby care center to feed & change DS. The MK bcc was huge! They had a full kitchen, a room with huge padded changing tables, and another big room with a tv, highchairs, a little table & chairs for bigger kids, and some books. Once DS had his milk, ate his food, and a clean diaper, we left the bcc. DH takes out his phone, and I ask what he's doing but he kind of waves me off. Then I hear him say, "What are y'all doing? We're going to Adventureland...Okay, see you in a minute." I almost flipped. I kind of went off a little that he was calling his dad to meet up again when I had told him haircut and that's it. But I had to suck it up at that point because what else could I do?
DS was finishing up the last of his sippy cup as we parked the stroller, so I took the cup to go rinse out in the bathroom while DH took him to go watch the Pirate Tutorial.
We met up with D&G and decided to go ride Pirates. As we were walking up to the line, we saw Pirate Goofy out! We asked DS if he wanted to go see him, and got this look...
We interpreted that as "Yes!" He was actually squirming & fighting in line so I would put him down and he could go up to Goofy. lol
Finally, it was our turn.
After we convinced Goofy to let Paxton come with us, we all rode Pirates together. He seemed fascinated with this one. Not a lot of smiling, but just looking all around taking it all in. We were in the very front row, which helped. Nothing in his way!
As soon as we walked out of the ride and got him back in the stroller, he passed out.
We went over to Frontierland to check out the wait times on BTMRR so DH and I could maybe ride while he napped, but the line was pretty long. The line for Splash Mountain was short though, so I told DH I wanted to ride and he was cool with walking around with D&G with DS in the stroller while I rode.
I got up to the loading platform and the guy told the two little girls in front of me to go to row 5. One told the CM they wanted the front row, so he sent them to row 1 and put me in row 5 by myself. What's row 5? The front row of the second log! I didn't think much of it because from outside, it didn't look like they had the water cannons going very strong. Little did I know, the water cannons would be the least of my worries.
The first little fake drop, the water sloshed up over the front of the log and landed right in my lap. OK, no big deal, so I'd look like I peed on myself. I could handle that. Second little drop, water sloshes over the front of the log and hits me in the chest. OK, now my whole front is wet, but I'll live. I should have seen it coming. We go down the big drop and it's all good until we hit the bottom where it levels out and a HUGE GUSH of water sloshes over the front of the log and completely drenches me head to toe!! Water actually went IN MY EAR!! Want to see what happens when you sit in the front row on Splash Mountain?
I was soaked from top to bottom, all the way through to my undies. It wasn't comfortable. DH took one look at me and said, "You want to go back to the room now, don't you?" Uh, YES PLEASE! Despite being uncomfortable, I was actually relieved this would separate us from D&G for the remainder of our vacation! Even after only a couple of hours, I just couldn't take the bickering!!
As we walked to the front, I did make a pitiful plea for a Mickey bar to cheer me up from my soaked-to-the-bone-earful-of-waterness.
It was good timing actually, because it was starting to drizzle as we left the park.
DH taking a picture of Main Street, but you can see how soaked I was on the back too.
The rain really started picking up as we got out to the TTC. Didn't bother me, how much more wet could I really get?
We got back to the resort and DS woke up. So I immediately jumped into a hot shower, then we bathed DS so that we could stay out a little later that night if we wanted to and not have to worry about doing that when we got back. I was really freaking out about my waterlogged ear because I am prone to bad bouts of swimmer's ear and ear infections, and they are PAINFUL. I wasn't looking forward to dealing with that on vacation! So I started googling, and it wasn't looking too promising since most of the results I could find had to do with putting rubbing alcohol in my ear, and I didn't have any. Just as I was about to give up, I found something that sounded ridiculous, but I tried it anyway. And that's why DH walked into our bedroom to find me with my ear pointed to the ground jumping up and down. Hey, might have looked ridiculous, but it worked! Yay, no more water in the ear!!
We spent the next couple of hours in the room letting DS play and have some snacks while DH and I caught the second half of the Saints game.
It had been a long day already, but our adventures weren't over just yet!
UP NEXT: Epcot!
(Yeah, that video's going to take awhile...I'll have it up later today!)
