ok, I'm looking at camping for next Easter break? Is that even possible at this point. I'm looking for some expert advice. I know nothing about FW or camping. Sorry I'm such a loser but hopefully some of you might enlighten me! :goodvibes

Here's what we're about. Can anyone make any rec for our stay or what we should ask for (or even if we should so this?)? My dad pulls his trailer to FL every year. It's pretty big (I told you I was a loser about this stuff!) but I don't know the details. It would be 4 adults and my 2 year old. Does anyone even think we should try camping with the 2 yr old? My dad was wondering if he'd be ready for 2009 but maybe we should wait for 2010. Will a 2 yr old enjoy the benefits of staying at FW as compared to another (non-WDW I know sorry) FL campsite?

If I do call to book what should I ask for? I don't want to be clueless while asking a clueless CM about FW bookings!

TIA

The fort is the perfect place for a 2 yr old! So much for him to see and do. Pool, beach, the horses and ponies at the stables. Not to mention you have your own private camper just in case he/she does throw a temper tantrum --no worries that you will be bothering someone in the next room! As far as what to ask for: You need to think about whats important to your family. Would you like to be close to the Marina?( quick transportation to MK) Pioneer Hall? (resort mug free refills! ) Meadow trading post? ( chip & dale program, marshmellow roast, nightly movie, swimming pool, store ) With 4+ in your party, would you want to be close to a comfort station? These are some things to think about ....when making ressies. Request the things you want. Good Luck planning and welcome to the camping forum!:goodvibes

Oh yea....when you do call for ressies, you will need the specifics of the camper. Length, any slide outs, awning etc.

Lots to do at the Fort. DS's were both there by the time they were two. Lots of room to run around and not be in anyone else's way. Make your ressies asap Easter books fast.

Thanks so much for the responses! I'll get some info from my dad about his trailer.

Dad is ready to go but just wanted to make sure DS would be able to enjoy FW. He stayed in St Pete's last year for $87/night at the KOA. He's telling me for the same price (or less) if he could stay at WDW with his grandson it'd be MUCH better.

Any word if the pool area will be refurbed by then? Step-mom just needs somw sun and she's good-to-go!

Remind me, when is Easter in '09? We're planning to camp at FW the week of Spring Break for us (Sarasota County Schools, FL) which is 4/4-4/12/09, I've been procrastinating on making my reserv. as I'm waiting to see how this hurricane season plays out before making long-term plans. I guess I should just bite the bullet and call and get this done, eh? I'm going to be upset if there aren't accomodations because of Easter.

We camp with a 1 year old and a 3 year old and have no problems.

We have camped at FW since my youngest has been 10 months old and he is now 6. It's great at that age because even riding the bus around for 30 minutes is exciting (that's all my 3 year old wants to do)! It will be great!

I have never camped at Disney before. What are the pluses and minuses?

A bunch of plusses. Only minus I can think of is you eventually have to leave. Some complain about the pool as it is "old school" but otherwise I can't come up with anything else negative to say. I try to bite my tongue about how much I love staying at the Fort as I want it to remain one of the best kept secrets of WDW.

Good job booking RNmomnFL! I'll get on the phone today!

I think we want to be near the Comfort Stations as there will be 4 of us plus DS in the trailer and we'll want some room to get ready. Other than that any recommendations where to request by?

We always try to get close to the center of the Fort (close to campfire/pool) . We don't rent a golf cart and that way we find it easy to walk everywhere.

Thanks. Looks like we'll be there the same time. I'm looking at April 5-11th! I don't think we'll get a cart either. My father says we can just bring bikes. We'll see though. Glad to know it's do-able without the carts.

We usually bring a basketball for the playground and scooters (non-electric bummer) for the kids. We've never brought the bikes because we haven't wanted to mess with 'em.
