1st Timer, Leave In 4days, Wife Won't Ride Coasters

Hi Everyone. The wife and 9y.o. and I are leaving for Universal on WED.

My first time going and I have no problem with coasters, I'm looking forward to DD and Hulk etc.... My 9 y.o. just reached 54" so he COULD ride if he wanted but ..... I'm trying to convice my wife to ride. She sits and reads the descriptions of the rides in a guidebook and says, "No way I'm riding this".

How can I talk her (and him) into it? Of course I'm not going to 'make' them go on rides they don't want to ride, but I would like for them to TRY them.

Any suggestions?

Any other suggestions for a first-timer leaving in 4 days?

My husband NEVER rides the coasters or even anything that might cause motion sickness. I used to ride the coasters but some of the bigger ones - HULK, DD are just too much for me so I sit with him and let the kids ride. It is still fun. People watching is great at WDW and USO. We used to push him but now we don't. So I would suggest with your 9yr old to start off with milder rides and see how he likes them. The wife - well, she is probably happier just watching.

Don't sweat it! When you get there let them have a look to see if they want to ride. If not you should head to the single rider lines to avoid long lines. Have a great vacation and enjoy Universal!

My advice would be to go to the Studios first. Talk the family into riding the Mummy. It's a very short, very easy coaster with AMAZING theming. Get them curious about trying to find the King Kong tribute (it's a small statue on the left in the Treasure room). Should be a fairly easy sell. That's the only coaster in that park, so they can feel successful and enjoy the rest of the day without worrying.
Over at IOA, remind them how much they LOVED the Mummy (assuming they did...if they come off Mummy terrified and looking green, I wouldn't push it). Use that to get them on the Flying Unicorn (a kid's coaster, but fun nonetheless). Hulk and Dragons will be a MUCH harder sell, cause they're out in the open, so the family can see every drop and inversion. So take advantage of that. Have them watch for awhile. Sometimes it's the unfamiliarity that makes people hesitant, so let them get familiar with the ride layout. If they flatly refuse, then like others have said, head for the singles line. Both coasters are located in areas that are great to wait in--shopping, food, and seating areas filled with others who are waiting on a family member. But with the right combination of patience and sales technique, you might just get them to ride after all. Good luck!!

My husband doesn't do coasters but we are gradually breaking him into it. The problem is that most small coasters are really not good coasters in that they are very rough so it is difficult to convince them that the big coasters are really enjoyable.

Hubby will do everything except Hulk and Dueling Dragons and we don't push it at all. The multiple inversions are just not his thing. There are plenty of other things to do to keep USF/IOA fun.

I used to ride coaster, but now chicken out. I let my DD and Dh ride, and sit outside the exit, people watching, and enjoying the warm weather. I bet your DW would enjoy it, and not be upset with you riding what you want.
