We are first time cruisers. Should we spend the money for outside verandah or save it and take inside cabin? Are you really in the cabin that much? We can get inside cabin for half of outside with balcony. It is our first cruise ever and I want it to be magical. What would you advise? Very confused DM, DD, and DD...

Definately cabin with verandah...being able to see the sea turtles, dolphins etc from your balcony is excellent. Also watching the sunrises/sunsets, and just kicking back. You will use it way more than you think.

I don't know the ages of your kids, but we have one (6) who hits the sack fairly early (crashes by 10pm) After that we are "trapped" in the cabin and we'll sit out on the verandah until my night owl dd (9) is ready to come home from the Lab --usually not until midnight or 1AM!

Because dd is out so late we are usually up before her and we'll enjoy the morning on the verandah. We will order a pot of coffee and some muffins from room service and enjoy the peace and quiet on our verandah.

My only complaint....on our last cruise someone smoked cigars on their verandah and we were downwind. :crazy2: Luckily it was short lived or I'd have had to call someone!

We aren't IN our cabin a lot, but because of the kids and their sleep schedule, when we are in the cabin we don't feel claustrophobic.

We have never had a verandah, and I am sure we would love it, but the price a LOT more, and we just can justify it for our budget.

If money isn't an issue, then get it. If you are concerned about the cost of the trip, go with just a porthole window or inside cabin. On our last trip we had a porthole and it was very nice. Before that we had sailed 3 times with inside cabins. Every trip has been magical!

Our first cruise was in a Cat 11 with a 6 and 4 year old. We were on the 3 day Wonder and did not miss the verandah a bit! Both kids stayed up late and would sleep very soundly because the rooms are quite dark (bring a night light).

Fast forward 3 years cruising with now 7 (almost 8) and 9 year old. Had a cat 5 on our 4 night and LOVED the verandah. We will never go back to a room without one.

My point is we did not miss it at all on our first cruise, but once we found out how nice it was would not want to cruise without one.

I also think it makes a difference for longer cruises. We have our first seven night in January....YAY!!!

Whichever you choose you can't go wrong...it's DISNEY!

let me say this about that ....

what ever u choose here r a couple of well known disney Cruise lines secrets

if u decide to go with the inside cabin go cat 10
on deck 5 , and u will get a porthole for free
YES Disney sells these rooms as deluxe inside staterooms
but u get a porthole... Slightly Obstructed but still worth it
THEY R only on DECK 5 CAT 10 there r 6 of them and they book up fast..... also know as secret porthole rooms

Second if u decide to go with a VERANDAH Room ....

GO cat 7 there r 4 rooms Disney sells as NAVagator verandahs and they r actually a regular verandah ... u may get the exact room numbers a this site .... www.castawayclub.com
and look under staterooms........... 7120 and 7620 r 2 of them

either way these 2 suggestions will get u a great value for your dollar.... good luck :boat: :boat: :boat: :boat:

We went through the same dilemma. We ended up choosing an inside room, this way it will force us to get out of the room more often than if we had a verandah. Maybe on our next cruise, since this is our first as well, maybe we'll splurge for a verandah.

12/01 originally booked 11/02 inside room, deck 2
summer of 02 was able to change it to a secret porthole

Trip got rescheduled to 11/03 and we moved to a verandah
(1st cruise for DS & DH - I cruised NCL 4nights 12/01 inside room)

less than 30days and we head to the airport

We booked an inside cabin both last year and again this year for our cruise departing this Saturday. I would have loved to have had the verandah, but then I would not be able to return as frequently. If it means you will be able to take a Disney Cruise more often (as is our situation)--go with the inside cabin! Also, just my opinion, but I would not spend a cent more for a porthole--if I was going to upgrade it would be to a verandah. A porthole that wouldn't open would just frustrate me (unless I was claustrophobic!).

The outside with porthole is very worth the small difference. It is more of a picture window. I believe it is 36 to 39 inches in diameter, so it really makes the room seem bigger.

Given how much time you are likely to spend on the upgrade to the veranda rooms, they are VERY expensive.

However, I must say that it is great to be able to step outside for a moment and enjoy the ocean during the times that you are not ready to leave the cabin (first waking up and after you're ready for bed). Plus its great being able to see day light.

LIve a little - yes, the verandah's are more expensive but you get a whole different perspective on things from it. We spend a lot of down time there - I mean, just how much activity can a person have in a 24 hour period. It's great to just have your morning coffee watching the sun rise or spend an afternoon nap in the quiet of your own room and look out side.

We had colds on one cruise and by choice took advantage of the verandah and room service, making it one of the most relaxing and romantic times of our vacation!

Too many wonderful things to say about the verandah - but, for my family, it is worth the money to have our own privacy!

Hi HooKooDooKu.

Plus its great being able to see day light.

I've met some people who wouldn't "see daylight" while picnicing on the sun...

The last time I cruised on the Wonder, I had a verandah, and it was wonderful (this was back in 1999). This trip, my boyfriend and I booked our 10/23/03 cruise in June. It was $325 a person for an inside stateroom (DB didn't think it was worth spending a lot on a room with a view). We booked our cruise through a company called Cruises Only. We were told on the phone that they didn't have a definte room number for us, but to watch our documents when they arrived. When we received our documents a couple of weeks ago, we were :bounce: *VERY*:bounce: surprised to see that they had upgraded our room to a room with a Navigator's verandah! Same price, but a much, much nicer room...AND with a view! Of course, NOW DB thinks the only way to cruise is with a room to view...and he hasn't been on a cruise yet.

My point is, you may want to check around for specials and see if they offer room upgrades if they can. It's worth it :)
