1st Holy Communion is driving me nuts!

I don't understand why on Earth you would have two parties for a first communion. That makes no sense. Just attend, act nice, and that's that.

Also, the "drama" about a dress is not needed. Take a deep breath, pick out a dress for your daughter, and be done with it. I believe simple is better. My daughter didn't wear a veil (very few do any more, and it wasn't encouraged at our church), rather a simple headband.

Can you do it any sooner than 2 weeks after? I would try to do it asap.

My DD is making her 1st Holy Communion May 5.

My mom and I both bought DD's dress and veil. It was pricey and came from a local boutique. We did look at Burlington and Macy's . The dresses were beautiful but sorry IMOP and I'm sure others will disagree they just don't compare to the boutique dresses.
All boutique dresses don't have to cost $500 . When DD and I were looking we seen quite a few for $100 or less.
It is late to be looking for a dress. I have had DD's since Feb. Even if you chose not to buy something off the rack I don't think a special order is even an option now. Everyone I know who is making their 1st Communion with DD has had the dress for a while now.

I would go look ASAP. What if the dress needs altered? That takes time too. As others have said Burlington, JCPenney, Macy's and Gabe's sell Communion dresses. My neighbor got her daughters online.. I can't understand why you think it is so stressful. DD and I had a great time picking out her dress. We made it a fun girls day out.

We are inviting family and some friends about 25 to DD's party. We are having it at Dave and Busters.
Some people just do immediate family, some have bigger parties. Some I know just have lunch or dinner for immediate family.

If you and your family are not religious and Catholic I don't see the need for the 2nd party. I'm a little confused. First Holy Communion is a big deal in the Catholic church so if it isn't that big a deal to you or your family , why doesn't your daughters father have the party which it seems he is already doing. If u feel the need to do something special take her out to her favorite restaurant.

after some thought and prayer, i realized that i was getting caught up in the family drama. the family drama is still there. people continue to say and think things, but i don't think my daughter has had to feel it much. that's all that matters. that she knows what a special moment it will be for her. so what i can't celebrate with her that day. she knows that i am proud of her. i could start a fight with her dad for not inviting me, etc. whatever... God knows what i have done to make things right by her, for her. Lord knows i have done alot since she was born to make things right and minimize conflict.
It will be wonderful.
May everyone have a wonderful spring!

Just to point out that you can go to the church service to be there for her. Mass is a public event, so it isn't like anyone can keep you out. Having your parents be present to SEE you go up that aisle and get Communion is the important part for a child; the party is incidental. If you want to go to the service, just go and sit separately from her father's family; she will know you are there, and that is likely to be the most important thing to her.
