I am coordinating my DDs 1st grade class Christmas party and all the Moms want to help, but none of them want to do crafts or games. I am crafty enough to come up with craft ideas, but I really need help coming up with 3 or 4 game ideas. I know my DIS friends will have some ideas for me--you guys are great with helping people. Please, let the ideas start rollin' :)
Thanks, PP

How about Christmas or Holiday BINGO. If the first graders can't read yet, you can use stickers or clipart in the squares. If you really wanted to, you may ask the school to laminate them, that way the teacher could keep them to use year after year!

Pin (Stick) the nose on Rudolph!

You can actually find that game at some party supply stores. If not, someone who is a good artist (not me!!) can draw a picture of Rudolph on a piece of posterboard, then make "noses" out of red construction paper. A blindfold and some double sided tape (or looped tape) and you are in business.

My son invented a game that's known now as Jakes's Candy-Go-Round. Fill a basket with candy, sit the kids in a circle. Play music and pass the candy. Stop the music and the kid with the basket is out. BUT he gets to take a piece of candy from the basket! Last one in gets the rest of the candy. I've seen kids get put out and run to Mom holding up their candy and telling her "I won!" I've seen the last one in share out ALL the candy more than once. It's a feel-good game for everyone! Perfect for that age group!

If you do a search for holiday bingo online you can find bingo cards to print out....we also play an "unwrap the present" game-takes a bit of prep work (and lots of boxes) but it is fun. Wrap a small set of candy or toys (like little erasers)- one for each child. Then wrap it again and again and again, each time in a slightly bigger box. The music plays, and when it stops, that child gets to unwrap the present- but its just another present! Then they are "out"- keep going until the last present, then share the item. Can last as long or as short as needed.

If you want a gross motor activity, try a dress like a snowman relay- first kid runs down, gets a hat, runs back and puts the hat on the next kid in line. That kid runs down, graps a muffler, runs back and puts the hat AND the muffler on the next kid, etc.....we use hats, mufflers, mittens, etc. (depends on how many kids and how much time you are trying to "waste"). Another relay type activity is to race with icecubes on a spoon. First kid places icecube on spoon, carries it down carefully and slides icecube onto the next kid's spoon, etc....its slippery and requires some coordination.

When all else fails, we play the "be a rock" game. Children start out in crouch position (they are a rock). You call out an animal/character, etc. and they act that out- when its wild and out of control (or before, it you prefer)- shout out "Be a rock" and they must sink back into "rock" position. Again, you can make it go as long as needed and even have children take turns calling out ideas (watch out- one kid shouted out "be an icecream cone"- that took some creative "acting").....
