Hi, all! I've been lurking on this site for a few months and getting great advice! Alas, I have a specific question that I couldn't find an answer for!

We will be visiting Disney World in June. It will be my kids' first trip. At 5 (6 when we go) and 3 1/2, they don't use a stroller at home; however, I know with all the walking, we definitely will rent a double. We are staying at AOA Lion King suites and should be fairly close to the bus stop so having a stroller to get to and from the resort isn't a big deal to us.

Ideally, we would like to just rent one at the park. Is it a hassle to stand in line to rent stroller each day? We will be taking a mid-day break every park day. Will we have to pay each time we rent one or is it by day only?

We know the other option is renting from Kingdom Stroller (or another company,) but I'm concerned that the strollers they offer won't be big enough for my oldest. He's about 47 inches and close to 50 pounds. We've rented double strollers at the zoo that are similar to what the parks offer and both kids have had plenty of leg room in those.

Anyone have any experience with a child close to the same size?

When we went last May we rented a double city mini and my 7 yr old rode in it too. She even slept in it at night. MK closed at 1 am that day and we took advantage of it since we only did one park day. The park strollers are fine too. But uncomfy if the child falls asleep. When we rented park strollers i would bring a couple of beach towels to use as pillows. If you do rent the park ones pay for multiple days it is a little discount and keep your receipt. You will just show it to them each day. And if you switch parks you just show the receipt and they give you a stroller. No extra charge.

We always rented from Orlando Stroller - and used their double. When my kids were your age, my eldest was the same size as yours and fit just fine.

I would rent one from an off site instead of in the parks for a few reasons:

  • when you go from the park exit to the bus, it might be dark and easier to know where your kids are.
  • at the end of a long park day, they might want the stroller from the bus to the room. Trust me, you'll be too tired to carry them!
  • the rentals are WAY more comfortable for the kids. (they might even take a nap!)
  • rentals are MUCH cheaper than in the parks (depending on how long you're staying)
  • my hubby got to be a pro at getting the double on and off the bus. It can be done one handed.
  • AoA is (was?) the last bus stop when we were there. That can be quite a haul at at some parks, especially with tired kids.

I am in a very similar situation as you. I am renting for the 1st time at the end of the month. My kids are also 5 (48" & 49lb.) and 3 1/2 (40" & 35lb,) and I have reserved a City Mini GT double from Kingdom Strollers. I'd be happy to tell you how it went when I get back :) . I have read from others that their children of similar size fit OK. I will know for sure in a few weeks.

We rented in the parks and really didn't ever have a problem with a line or anything. (and we went at spring break time). I didn't think my kids needed a stroller a ton, but if that meant I didn't have to carry them to the bus or to the room (we were at AoA Cars)... it was great. We got the stroller, used it to get to the areas we were exploring, they hopped out, did all the exploring there and then hopped back in for the longer walks. We left the parks in the afternoons and it was no problem at all.
